Just like Kakashi expected, he was called by an urgent meeting by Fury and the security council.
Kakashi attended the meeting from
Avengers Tower. The large screen in the meeting room showed the faces of the World Security Council members clearly.
He sat calmly in his chair. The call had come suddenly after the recent attacks on Hydra bases.
Kakashi knew that the meeting was called by all those in the security council that were affiliated with Hydra and had gotten the news of so many of their bases being attacked by Avengers and a few super powered individuals that they had no news about. He had expected this reaction and was fully prepared for the confrontation.
Fury glared at him through the screen which Kakashi ignored. The one-eyed director looked tense and unhappy with how things were unfolding.
The six members of the security council were there. His primary suspects of who he was sure that one was a Hydra member and even their leader.
Kakashi suspicion was not limited to them but also on many of the world's prominent politicians, prime ministers, presidents, generals and businessmen. He knew that the rot was deep. The infiltration had gone far beyond what most people could imagine.
Councilman Singh started the questioning. "Kakashi Hatake would you like to tell why Avengers are attacking facilities all around the world even if we have identified some of them as facilities that are used by terrorists."
Footages were given showing the destruction at several bases. The council members looked serious and demanding answers.
The councilman added, "While dealing with terrorists is not a problem, it is not something you and your group should concern with. Your duty is to protect Earth from external threats. Let the army worry of terrorists."
"And why have you not informed of so many new members with super powers joining Avengers. Have you forgotten that Avengers is formed because of us? We could unsanction you," Councilwoman Hawley added sharply.
She leaned forward with an angry expression, trying to put pressure on Kakashi. The council clearly felt they were losing control over the team.
"As I recall I was given full authority over how I operate Avengers and how I recruit," Kakashi replied coolly. He did not raise his voice or show any sign of being intimidated.
His calm demeanor made the council members more frustrated. He continued speaking, "We had discovered traces of Hydra. And we know several key figures at the top are Hydra. We are trying to snuff them out."
Fury's eyes widened so did many of the councilmen's. "Hydra? Are you sure?" Fury asked with clear surprise in his voice.
The director had not expected this name to come up in the meeting. He knew the history and the danger it represented.
"They are not simple terrorists and thus Avengers decided to deal with them," Kakashi explained. He gave more details about the secret projects and what all they had discovered after attacking Hydra bases discovered.
Councilman Pierce spoke next, "This is a serious accusation, Mister Hatake. Hydra was supposed to have been destroyed decades ago. What evidence do you have to support these claims?"
He tried to sound reasonable but there was a slight edge in his voice that Kakashi noticed. Kakashi responded without hesitation. "We have reliable intelligence from deep infiltration. Their projects like Centipede and Deathlok are active. They are creating enhanced soldiers and cyborgs. This is not speculation. It is fact."
Fury leaned forward, his one eye sharp. "If this is true, then we need to coordinate properly. SHIELD has resources that can help root them out. You should have come to me first instead of launching independent attacks."
His words carried authority but also a hint of respect for Kakashi's boldness. Kakashi nodded slightly. "I respect SHIELD's role, Director Fury. But with the level of infiltration we suspect, going through normal channels could alert the wrong people. We are acting to protect the world, not to undermine SHIELD."
Councilman Yen spoke up with irritation. "You are overstepping your authority. The Avengers were created to handle alien threats and world-ending dangers. Dealing with terrorist groups inside our own organisations is the job of governments and intelligence agencies."
Kakashi replied coolly. "When those terrorist groups have infiltrated the very agencies meant to stop them, it becomes our concern. Hydra is not just another group. They have plans that could affect the entire planet. We have seen their experiments and their reach."
Councilman Rockwell questioned about the new members. "And these new powered individuals you have recruited without approval? How do we know they are not a threat themselves?"
Kakashi answered calmly. "They have proven themselves in battle. They fight for the same goal of protecting Earth. Transparency will come in time, but right now speed is more important than paperwork."
Fury added his own words. "Kakashi has earned my trust through actions, not words. If he says Hydra is back, I believe we need to listen. But we cannot have the Avengers operating completely outside the chain of command. That creates chaos."
Kakashi nodded. "I agree on the need for coordination. But when parts of the chain are compromised, we must act first and explain later. The safety of the world comes before bureaucracy."
The meeting went back and forth for a long time. Kakashi remained cool and collected throughout, never raising his voice or showing anger.
The council members tried to pressure him but he stood firm. Fury supported some points while also pushing for more cooperation.
In the end, Kakashi made it clear that the Avengers would continue their mission against Hydra.
