"What is Kahn going up there for? I was planning to talk to the Blind Bandit."
Aang watched Kahn leap onto the arena and frowned in confusion.
Sokka rolled his eyes so hard they nearly fell out.
"Dude… talking in the middle of the ring? Thank the spirits Kahn jumped first. You would've ruined the entire vibe of the match."
Aang puffed his cheeks.
"We came here to find an Earthbending master. This is important, okay? I really think she might be the one I'm looking for."
Katara cut in before they could start bickering again.
"Enough. Let's just watch. Besides… we haven't actually seen Kahn fight yet. This is a good chance to see what he's capable of. And we can study the Blind Bandit more closely too."
Aang blinked. "True!"
But Sokka suddenly stiffened.
"Uh… small question: is it actually safe for Kahn to use Firebending here? We're literally in Earth Kingdom territory."
"!!!" × 2
Too late.
While Team Avatar panicked on the sidelines, the Blind Bandit and Kahn had already begun trash-talking.
The Blind Bandit tilted her head with a smirk.
"One little pebble just lost, and now a skinny twig shows up. Did you fall out of the audience by accident?"
A wave of boos crashed from the crowd, but Kahn didn't react at all.
Being around Azula for too long had consequences—specifically, highly contagious shit-talking skills.
Kahn smirked.
"Your Earthbending's good, but your mouth works even better. But if I'm a skinny twig, then you're what—some kind of groundhog?"
The jab at her height hit hard. Her smile evaporated.
"I'm going to see if your skills match that mouth!"
She stomped hard, launching a stone pillar straight at him.
Kahn flipped neatly out of the way and shot forward, intending to close the distance—
—but the Blind Bandit had already read his movement. Stone pillars rose in a crisscross pattern, cutting off his route, switching from defense to offense in a smooth sequence.
Prediction?
Kahn's eyes narrowed. But he didn't panic.
Even mid-movement, he redirected his momentum, narrowly slipping through a tiny gap and avoiding being boxed in.
He laughed, "I didn't expect your sensing ability to be this strong."
He'd already guessed the secret: Earthbenders sense vibrations through their feet.
His old friend Kou Li used the ability to help them find underground tunnels in the palace.
But this girl—this blind girl—had taken it far beyond the norm. She could parse subtle human footsteps and body shifts like a map.
The Blind Bandit raised an eyebrow, amused.
"Your insight's not bad either. Slippery like a loach."
A sharp grin spread across her face—excitement, not anger. She had been bored of the arena's fake fights for ages. But now? A real opponent had finally appeared.
The audience picked up on the difference immediately. The atmosphere surged. This wasn't like the performance fights earlier—this was real skill, real danger.
"Kahn's so strong even without bending," Aang breathed.
Katara bit her lip.
"But can he win without bending? She's clearly strong too."
"And if he does bend," Sokka said gravely, "we're dead."
Back in the arena, tension built… and then suddenly dissipated.
Kahn lowered his stance, sighed, and—
jumped out of the ring.
"What is he doing?!" Aang, Sokka, and Katara yelled in unison.
The arena exploded in outrage. The Blind Bandit froze, then her face flushed with humiliation that slowly turned to fury.
As Kahn walked away, an earth wall shot up, blocking him.
The Blind Bandit stormed toward him.
"What the hell was THAT, you jerk?! ARE YOU LOOKING DOWN ON ME?!"
Aang, Katara, and Sokka rushed over, holding their breath as they waited for Kahn's explanation.
Kahn spoke calmly.
"Actually, I have my reasons. I can't fight with full strength in the arena. That's why I said it was a pity."
He glanced back at the crowd, making sure their view was blocked, then quietly extended his palm.
A small fireball formed, hidden from spectators.
The Blind Bandit felt the heat and froze.
"You're… a Firebender?"
"Yes. And I'd appreciate it if you didn't report me."
He smiled lightly.
"You're a strong Earthbender, and I want to fight you seriously. So if possible, let's find a quiet place and continue our match."
"Also—my friend has something he wants to tell you."
He stepped aside, and Aang eagerly jumped forward.
"Hi! I'm Aang—the Avatar. I'm looking for a great Earthbending master, and I think you're the one who can teach me!"
The Blind Bandit stared at him blankly.
"The Avatar? Teach you?"
Her confusion turned to irritation. Then—something else flickered across her face. Recognition? Worry?
Suddenly, her entire expression darkened.
"Alright. I don't care who you are or what you want. Let's pretend none of this happened. I didn't see anything, and neither did you."
With that, she sank into the ground with Earthbending, vanishing.
Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Kahn stood there stunned.
"What was that about?" Katara asked.
Kahn crossed his arms.
"It looked like she remembered something unpleasant."
Sokka shrugged.
"A blind kid around eleven or twelve, fighting in underground matches alone? Obviously she's got issues."
Aang groaned.
"But what do we do now? How do we find her?"
Kahn smirked slightly.
"Don't worry. I'm tracking her."
Using Heavenly Eye Vision, he locked onto her movements.
"We're not letting the Earthbending master we finally found get away. Follow me."
