Genshin Impact: I'm The Envoy of Snezhnaya
Chapter 421: The Cat's Grim Fate
Inside the cave, Silver had no idea that the annotations he had made in the notebooks had earned praise from Albedo.
Well—except for his handwriting.
At the moment, he was busy conducting new research.
Durin's blood.
He had discovered that when Durin's blood was diluted and combined with living organisms, it produced unusual reactions.
If the dosage was carefully controlled, it could even cause those organisms to undergo unique transformations.
And these changes appeared to be harmless to the body.
"Is this the normal version of the potion?"
Looking at a bottle sitting nearby, Bai Luo picked it up casually and gave it a gentle shake.
Unlike the transformation potion he had obtained from Cyno, Silver's version was thicker in consistency and somehow looked… more appetizing?
"Mm. Tested it."
Silver no longer spoke as haltingly as before, though he still used very few words.
Even so, it was enough for people to understand what he meant.
Following the direction Silver indicated, Bai Luo looked toward a black cat curled up in the corner.
"Meow."
Rolling his eyes helplessly, Sharif actually felt somewhat fortunate that he had been turned into a cat.
Because he had discovered that after the potion transformed him, his body had also recovered its health.
As long as he didn't turn back into a human, he could continue living even without access to alchemical equipment.
"Nicely done."
Bai Luo reached out and ruffled Silver's hair, showing no hesitation in praising him.
Silver, however, displayed little reaction to the gesture.
His only concern was the alchemical experiment in front of him.
"I'll be leaving for a while over the next few days. If you need anything, go to the camp and find Vadim."
After storing away a sufficient quantity of the potion, Bai Luo spoke.
This time, Silver finally reacted.
"Leaving?"
"Yeah. But I'll come back regularly. Don't let me catch you slacking off."
"..."
Bai Luo was met only with silence and the continued sounds of experimentation.
Clicking his tongue, he muttered something along the lines of "What a cold little brat," then stepped out into the snowstorm and soon disappeared beyond the cave entrance.
. . .
Not long after Bai Luo left, the pale-green liquid inside a beaker on Silver's workbench emitted a faint glow.
The liquid gradually shifted from green to red.
"Not good..."
Silver immediately recognized the problem.
Without hesitation, he tossed the beaker aside.
"Meow?"
Sharif, who had just settled comfortably into a new sleeping spot, stared at the bottle that had suddenly landed in front of him.
A giant question mark practically appeared above his head.
As he reached out a paw to bat at it—
BOOM!
The explosion was so powerful that it sent Silver, who hadn't yet gotten very far, flying through the air.
Fortunately for him, that level of impact was nothing.
Brushing the dust off his clothes, Silver walked to the cave entrance.
He stared silently at the gloomy sky and the endless gray-white snowfield outside.
For a long time.
Until—
"Meow..."
When something touched his leg, he looked down.
Sharif's paw.
Or what remained of it.
The cat was a bloody, mangled mess.
After dragging himself all the way from the explosion site to the cave entrance, Sharif was practically in tears.
No one knew how difficult that crawl had been.
But survival had given him the strength to persevere.
"Hm?"
The weak meowing finally drew Silver's attention.
Looking down at the battered cat, he frowned slightly.
"What... happened?"
The question nearly caused the critically injured Sharif to die on the spot.
What happened?
You seriously have the nerve to ask that?
Wasn't it you who threw that thing right in front of me?!
But considering that the only person capable of saving him was standing directly before him, Sharif could only let out a weak meow as a reminder that medical attention would be appreciated.
With visible reluctance, Silver grabbed Sharif by the tail.
Dragging him across the ground, he carried him back into the cave and tossed him onto the workbench.
Looking around at the alchemical equipment surrounding him, Sharif felt tears welling up in his eyes.
For the first time in his life, those cold, emotionless instruments looked incredibly comforting.
Before long, however, overwhelming drowsiness overtook him.
His consciousness gradually faded away.
When Sharif woke up again, it was already night.
His injuries had been treated thanks to Silver's efforts.
But...
When he tried to stand up, something felt wrong.
Very wrong.
As though part of his body wasn't quite the same anymore.
"Meow?"
Sharif took a few steps.
Nothing seemed wrong.
Even the hind leg that had been blown off in the explosion had been treated by Silver.
As long as he didn't engage in any strenuous activity, walking posed no problem at all.
Until...
He noticed two small lumps of flesh resting on a piece of gauze inside a tray nearby.
Tiny blood vessels resembling branches could still be seen attached to them.
They looked suspiciously… like something that had once belonged to him.
"..."
After staring blankly for several seconds, Sharif seemed to realize something.
Slowly, he lowered his head and looked beneath himself.
"AAAOOOWWW—!"
After becoming a cat, he had originally thought he could spend the rest of his life peacefully.
At the very least...
At the very least—
But now all he could do was let out one miserable howl after another.
What kind of family are these people?!
First the kidneys, now this?!
Can't they leave a man even a single path to survival?
Other than murder, arson, robbery, and a little banditry, I haven't done anything that evil!
Why are they torturing me like this?!
"Aooo..."
Just as Sharif tried to howl again and vent his grievances, a shoe that Bai Luo had left behind flew through the air and smacked him squarely on the forehead.
"Too noisy."
That was perhaps the most complete sentence Silver had ever spoken.
Watching Sharif pick up the tray in utter despair and retreat into a corner, Silver turned his attention back to his work.
Taking up a freshly prepared potion, he walked deeper into the cave.
Looking at the Whopperflower, which remained motionless and indistinguishable from an ordinary plant, Silver did not recklessly open the prison Bai Luo had constructed.
Instead, he took out a specially designed syringe.
Carefully, he injected the potion into one of the leaves that extended close to the entrance of the cage.
At the injection site, a crimson vein appeared.
At first, the Whopperflower showed no reaction.
It behaved exactly as before, gently swaying and imitating the characteristics of a normal plant.
But as the red line gradually spread through its stem, it began to tremble.
Crack!
A burst of Cryo energy exploded from its body.
Frost rapidly spread, even coating the steel wires of the cage with a layer of ice.
Rustle... rustle...
Its leaves shook violently.
Like a human suffering from severe stomach cramps, the Whopperflower rolled back and forth across the ground.
Meanwhile, the crimson veins continued spreading through its entire body.
Even the eye-like structures on its flower bud gradually turned blood-red.
Eventually, when the red network covered every part of it, the creature finally became still.
Rustle...
Its leaves slowly wrapped around its body.
This was the precursor to a Whopperflower's mimicry ability.
When the leaves unfolded again, the Whopperflower was gone.
In its place stood a person.
And that person looked exactly like Silver.
"Ex... per... i... ment..." The figure slowly spoke.
