Chapter 399: The Fatui's Objective

Rosaria is a nun of the Church of Favonius. But compared to ordinary nuns, she is… somewhat different.

At first glance, she can barely be considered a member of the clergy.

But upon closer inspection, aside from her outfit, she has almost nothing in common with a nun.

Smoking, drinking, being late, lacking reverence for the gods…

Her individuality makes her an outlier even within all of Mondstadt.

In a sense, she might not even qualify as a nun—just someone loosely affiliated with the Church.

In some ways, she's quite similar to Bai Luo.

Judging from the wounds she left on the Pyro Gunner, she shows no mercy when interrogating enemies.

She has an excellent understanding of human weak points and feels no burden when it comes to killing.

No one would guess that this seemingly lazy, chain-smoking nun is actually a top-tier executioner behind the scenes.

Unfortunately, she ran into Bai Luo.

In their line of work, if Bai Luo dared to claim second place, no one would dare claim first.

He knew very well that Rosaria didn't possess the ability to turn invisible, but she also couldn't possibly leave no footprints in the snow.

So there was only one possibility.

She hadn't left. She had hidden somewhere within the forest using some method.

If Bai Luo searched carefully, he could probably find her hiding spot.

But considering her personality, he figured she wouldn't just give up so easily.

So, using the effect of the Sealer, he pretended to jump down the slope.

In reality, he had only concealed his presence—he never left.

And just as he expected, Rosaria emerged from the shadows.

"Lord Harbinger, how should we deal with her?"

Under normal circumstances, the Pyro Gunner would have already shot her dead.

But with a Harbinger present, Fatui regulations required him to consult Bai Luo first.

"Don't act yet. As a nun of the Church of Favonius, she's more useful alive than dead."

"Yes, sir!"

The Pyro Gunner showed no dissatisfaction with Bai Luo's decision.

As members of the Fatui vanguard, they prioritized value above all else.

If they could bring something—or someone—of value to the Tsaritsa, they would not hesitate, even if it meant sacrificing their own lives.

Nearby reinforcements soon arrived. With their help, the Geo Skirmisher who had fallen earlier was successfully saved.

Bai Luo handed Rosaria over to them for temporary custody.

Later, he planned to use her to negotiate some benefits from Mondstadt.

Back when he was in Mondstadt, he had wondered why Diluc and the others, after discovering that Stormterror was Dvalin, hadn't shifted their investigation toward Dragonspine.

After all, the battle between Dvalin and Durin had ended there.

Now it seemed it wasn't that they hadn't thought of it—it was that someone had already been acting on it.

The only question was what exactly the Fatui stationed on the mountain had done to provoke Rosaria into slaughtering everyone in the camp.

The Dragonspine of Teyvat was far larger than what Bai Luo had seen in the game. Although many places differed, with his 100% exploration knowledge, finding Albedo's camp would be easy.

But before that, he planned to first make contact with the Fatui forces on the mountain.

Led by the reinforcements, Bai Luo arrived at the Fatui command post on Dragonspine.

It had to be said that the Fatui's supply capabilities for large-scale operations far surpassed anything in the wild.

The tents on Dragonspine were not only much larger than usual, but they were even equipped with heaters.

After walking in wearing his heavy coat, Bai Luo actually started sweating.

In the end, he had no choice but to take it off and change back into his usual clothes.

During a moment of free time, Bai Luo had someone bring him the documents from Dragonspine and began reading them carefully.

The person in charge here, Vadim, didn't keep him waiting long. Before long, he hurried back from outside.

"Lord Harbinger!"

Vadim had originally thought that the Harbinger visiting their camp would be the Fair Lady, but to his surprise, it was the Ausbilder.

He had heard that this Harbinger didn't like getting involved in affairs, so why had he come here?

"You've worked hard. How's the progress?"

From the documents in the tent, Bai Luo had already more or less figured out what the Fatui stationed here were doing.

It couldn't really be called negligence on their part—documents of this level wouldn't be so easily accessed by anyone who wasn't a Harbinger.

"We've almost finished excavating it. The only issue is that we don't yet know how to extract it intact."

After giving a salute, Vadim reported.

The reason the Fatui had gathered on the mountain was none other than the poisonous dragon Durin, who had perished here.

Durin was one of the creations of "Gold."

Speaking of Gold, one must first understand the hierarchy of alchemy.

On the continent of Teyvat, alchemy is generally divided into four stages:

Eclipse, Chalk, Crimson, and Gold.

The other stages aren't well-documented, so we won't go into detail. (Avoiding contradictions.)

Let's mainly explain Eclipse.

Eclipse is the origin of alchemy—the initial state.

The alchemy mastered by Albedo is known as the Art of Khemia.

Compared to other forms of alchemy, Eclipse focuses more on the creation of life.

In fact, Albedo himself is a product of this art.

Even within Eclipse, there are multiple layers.

Based on in-game descriptions of Riftwolf materials, Eclipse has at least three tiers:

AlfisolHumusCretaceus

The Riftwolfs (often jokingly called "bleeding dogs") belong to the lowest tier—the Alfisol.

The poisonous dragon Durin is considered a masterpiece of the Humus.

And the highest masterpiece is the Cretaceus.

Among all of "Gold's" creations, Durin of the Humus can be said to rank just below Albedo of the Cretaceus.

This is also why Albedo always gives off a subtly dangerous vibe in the game.

If Durin—below the Cretaceus—could fight against Dvalin, then how powerful must a Cretaceus creation be?

Perhaps one day, there may truly be a battle against the Kreideprinz.

Durin was an enemy of the Anemo Archon. Even if it didn't reach the level of a god, it possessed extraordinary power.

It wouldn't be an exaggeration to call it a being comparable to a god—or at least closely related to one.

While the Harbingers sought to seize the authority of the gods, their vanguard units were already spreading across the continent, collecting "things" related to deities.

Even though Durin had fallen in that battle a hundred years ago, the remains it left behind still held special value for the Fatui.

And that was one of the main reasons why the vanguard had gathered at Dragonspine.
