Genshin Impact: I'm The Envoy of Snezhnaya
Chapter 398: The Nun on the Snowy Mountain
Mondstadt is a white beast—both ancient and young.
So ancient that it needs to be protected, yet so young that it cannot stand on its own.
And there are many who guard it.
For example, the woman Bai Luo encountered just after entering the snowy mountain.
Bang—!
The sound of something heavy hitting the ground rang out, followed by the noise of someone rolling across the snow.
A figure Bai Luo found familiar came tumbling down the slope, rolling over and over until finally stopping in front of him.
"Lord… Harbinger…"
The mask of the Geo Skirmisher was almost completely stained red with blood.
Aside from the frost covering his body, there were also several large and small puncture wounds—it looked like he had been pierced through by some kind of polearm.
Frowning slightly, Bai Luo raised his hand and threw out his dagger.
Using the steel wire attached to it, he latched onto nearby trees and sped across the snow-covered slope, quickly arriving at a makeshift camp.
Several Fatui soldiers were already lying on the ground.
At that moment, a figure completely out of place with the surroundings stood there, stepping on the chest of a Pyro Gunner. The spear in her hand was about to pierce through his head.
Bai Luo's dagger shot out just in time.
The attacker hadn't expected someone to rush up from the snowy slope, and her defense was clearly rushed.
More importantly, Bai Luo's casual strike unexpectedly triggered a critical effect.
Electric currents spread through her body. The nun-like assailant stiffened, her entire body going numb. Even the cigarette clenched between her lips dropped to the ground.
Seizing the opportunity, the Pyro Gunner beneath her kicked her away, rolled over, grabbed his firearm, and fired a shot at her.
Bang—!
Recovering from the paralysis, the nun managed to dodge her vital points, but her shoulder still took the hit head-on.
She glanced at Bai Luo, clutching her wounded shoulder, then rolled into the forest.
Seeing this, the Pyro Gunner dragged his injured right leg and chased after her.
But strangely, the silent forest showed no trace of her.
There weren't even any footprints in the snow.
Only the faint scent of blood in the air proved that a wounded person had passed through.
"Lord Harbinger!"
After confirming that the nun had disappeared, the Pyro Gunner dragged his battered body over to Bai Luo.
He still wasn't sure which Harbinger Bai Luo was, but that fur cloak was unmistakable.
"Are there any allies nearby?"
Crouching down to check the other Fatui soldiers, Bai Luo asked.
Compared to the Pyro Gunner, these men were just ordinary troops.
The nun must have thought they held no valuable information, because she showed no mercy—her attacks were all lethal.
"When we were attacked, I fired a signal flare. Reinforcements should arrive soon." Straightening his posture with pride, the Pyro Gunner replied.
Although their squad had nearly been wiped out by the mysterious nun, no matter how she tortured him, he hadn't revealed any information.
"You did well. You can take care of yourself for now, right? There's another wounded soldier below—I'll bring him up first."
Glancing at his injuries, Bai Luo asked.
He hadn't forgotten the Geo Skirmisher down the slope.
His condition was worse than the Pyro Gunner's, but he still had a faint breath left. With effort, he might still be saved.
"Rest assured, Lord Harbinger! I can take care of myself."
The Pyro Gunner hadn't forgotten his comrade either. Being assigned to the same squad meant they were at least somewhat close.
If not for the strict discipline within the Fatui, he would have already begged Bai Luo to save his companion.
"Wait for me."
Bai Luo reached out and patted the man on the shoulder, then walked to the slope he had come from—and jumped straight down.
Meanwhile, the Pyro Gunner sat by the campfire and began tending to his wounds.
As part of the Fatui vanguard, they were quite skilled in basic first aid.
Perhaps because a Harbinger was nearby, and reinforcements were on their way, his guard lowered slightly as he wrapped his injuries.
What he didn't notice, however, was a figure lying low in the snow, quietly approaching him.
Logically speaking, with a wound on her shoulder, the scent of blood should have easily drawn the Pyro Gunner's attention.
But with several corpses nearby—and the fact that he himself was injured—he failed to notice the danger creeping up behind him.
After confirming once more that no reinforcements were nearby, she didn't use her spear. Instead, she took out a delicate dagger.
The blade had no shine at all—it had clearly been specially treated to reduce the chance of being detected during an assassination.
As she approached the Pyro Gunner, who was fully focused on bandaging himself, preparing to slit his throat—
A familiar chill suddenly appeared at her own neck.
Her breath hitched. The nun's eyes shifted to the side.
The man she thought had already left was now standing right beside her.
Without hesitation, she dropped the dagger and raised both hands, signaling her surrender.
Only when the dagger hit the ground did the Pyro Gunner realize what had just happened behind him.
Seeing the sharp blade, he immediately broke into a cold sweat.
"From the Church of Favonius?"
After binding her hands and feet with steel wire, Bai Luo glanced at the progress indicator and asked.
Unfortunately, he wasn't particularly skilled when it came to tying people up.
Otherwise, with a figure like hers, it would've been a shame not to tie something more elaborate.
"From the Liyue Qixing."
The nun didn't hesitate at all, immediately naming an organization from a neighboring nation.
Judging by how smoothly she said it, this clearly wasn't her first time giving such an answer.
While verbally misleading Bai Luo, her eyes kept darting around, scanning her surroundings.
Even though she had been captured, she hadn't given up.
If even the slightest opportunity appeared, she was confident she could break free from the steel wire binding her hands and escape.
After all, Bai Luo's method of tying her up was amateurish at best.
What she didn't know was that the steel wire was just for show.
From the moment Bai Luo marked her, she had already been shackled by an invisible restraint.
Unless she could escape his perception range in an instant, no matter how she tried—she wouldn't be able to get away.
Someone from a neighboring nation, who would turn into a tanuki whenever she stayed near Bai Luo, could attest to that.
During the time she spent with him, she had nearly begun to question her own existence.
