Chapter 497 - CH.477: Tearju Lunatique.

( Yuuki's POV )

The first person who wanted to talk after escaping the self-destruction of the enemy base was the female scientist we found along with the other captured girls.

I don't think she was working with them of her own free will, but there was still a lot of information she could give us.

I approached the woman, but she was the first to speak; I'm sure she also had many questions.

???: Why did you save me? You could have left me in that explanation.

Yuuki: I don't think you're a bad person, and you weren't there of your own free will. You don't deserve to be punished.

???: How can you say that? I'm a stranger.

Yuuki: I believe I'm a good judge of character and can detect lies, but you're right, getting to know each other would be better. My name is Yuuki, would you mind telling me yours?

???: My name is Tearju Lunatique.

Yuuki: Curious name. Do you mind if I call you Tear?

Tearju: ...Y-Yes, that's fine.

Yuuki: Okay, Tear, can you tell me how you ended up there in that base?

Tearju: I... I was deceived. I thought I was going to find information about someone I'm looking for, but they captured me and forced me to help in their experiments.

Yuuki: So you were responsible for those mutated BETA? You must be very intelligent. Shouldn't there be people looking for you after you disappeared?

Tearju: I'm more trouble than I'm worth; nothing I do brings any good.

Yuuki: Hmm, and who is this person you're looking for?

Tearju: someone very important to me.

Umm Someone important, a family member? A lover? No, who in their right mind would leave a woman like Tearju? Whoever she's looking for is definitely a family member.

Yuuki: One last thing, do you know if the puppeteer ever took one of the girls and used them... in a personal way, so to speak?

Tearju took a moment to understand what she was saying and when she did she blushed hard; it seemed she didn't have much personal experience with that.

That kind of response was good, because if she had shown sadness or regret, that would indicate that the worst had happened.

Tearju: No, he came to observe the girls inside their capsules, but he never touched them in that way. I think he saw those girls as collectible objects rather than as people.

Yuuki: Well, that's a blessing in disguise.

We were waiting for one of our flying ships, and that arrived just as I finished talking to Tear.

Yuuki: Thanks for the information, Tear. Let's talk more when we get to the guild.

/////////////////

After a short trip in our flying ship, we returned to our guild, all the captured girls spent the night there, and on the afternoon of the following day, soldiers from the kingdom appeared at our guild, They came for the dark mages we captured and to return the captured girls back to their homes.

For our enormous help in dismantling an entire dark guild, the soldiers brought with them an extra reward as a thank you, of course there was also the problem of the girls who were sold by their own families; they had nowhere to return to, so I offered them asylum in our guild.

They could look for work in the city and find a place for themselves, or they could also work in our guild; we need the staff, the girls considered my offer, and all those who had nowhere else to go decided to stay with us, at least for the time being.

Once that was sorted out, I went to the guild master's room and helped Eu with the paperwork required to run a guild; this is one of the most annoying parts of my job, p aperwork just piles up, it never goes down.

Luckily for me, Jubei appeared at the perfect moment to get me out of my predicament.

Jubei: Onii-chan, come quickly, the girls are awake.

Yuuki: It seems I'm needed somewhere else. I'll be going now, Eu.

Eu: um Good luck. The papers will be waiting for you when you return.

The girls we rescued were inside a dormitory built for members of the guild, I entered the building and the first thing I saw was a piece of furniture flying towards me. I'm sure they must be confused waking up in an unfamiliar building, but this is too much.

I caught the piece of furniture with one hand and gently placed it next to me.

???: Hey you! You'd better let us go or else!

Yuuki: What are you saying? You know the doors aren't locked.

The girl who had thrown the furniture earlier had already lifted another armchair to throw at me; when I told her they weren't locked in, she stopped and her brain slowly began to process my words, but she quickly reverted to her hostile state.

???: You're not fooling me. That girl said we can't leave this place.

The girl pointed to Matabei, who was near the door; she had probably been acting as a guard earlier, beside her was a short girl with long black hair; she must be the Yukimura girl she was so dedicated to rescuing.

Yuuki: Well, you can't leave yet, you're in a complicated situation, you'll want to be seated for what I have to say, so stop throwing furniture around.

The distraught woman hid under the piece of furniture she was holding, and then I went on to explain to them about their abduction and the experiments that were done at that base, I told them about the mastermind behind it all and the group behind him that was even more dangerous.

Yukimura: Wait a minute, you're talking about all these dangerous people, but aren't you just like them? You saved us, but how can we be sure you won't use us in some other way?

Yuuki: I am a world traveler and we have similar roots but we are not at all the same, I saved you because Matabei asked me to, I don't want anything from you in return, they are my enemies so I would have rescued you at some point, Matabei just made things happen faster.

???: ...If what you say is true, you will return us to our world.

The next person to speak was a girl with long brown hair; she seemed to have an air of nobility, and at the same time as she asked her question, she was gauging what kind of person I was.

Yuuki: That was the plan from the beginning, but first we have to find the world you come from; finding one world among an infinity of different worlds is not exactly a quick job.
