Chapter 27 - Don’t Move Even an Inch Away From Me

The silence had become familiar now.

Not peaceful.

Just… consistent.

Like the room had learned Shen Yichen's new rule and stopped resisting it.

Stay close.

Or everything shifts.

He stood beside Lin Yue like it was the only position that made sense in the world anymore.

Lu Han's voice came quieter this time.

"You're not building a relationship anymore," he said.

"You're building a dependency loop."

Shen Yichen didn't look at him.

"I'm building something that doesn't break," he replied.

Lin Yue's gaze tightened slightly.

"And you think I won't become exhausted by that?" she asked softly.

Shen Yichen finally looked at her.

His expression softened immediately.

"No," he said.

A pause.

"I think you will."

Silence.

That answer was honest in a way that didn't help his case.

Lin Yue frowned slightly.

"And you're still continuing?"

Shen Yichen nodded once.

"Yes."

Simple.

Final.

"Because if I lose you," he said quietly,

"I don't recover."

Lu Han stepped forward again.

"That's not love," he said firmly.

Shen Yichen finally turned toward him.

Slow.

Controlled.

"I didn't call it love," he replied.

A pause.

"I called it necessity."

Silence.

That word landed differently.

He wasn't romanticizing it.

He was classifying it as required condition for function.

Lin Yue looked at him carefully.

"You're making me your emotional requirement," she said softly.

Shen Yichen didn't deny it.

"Yes."

No hesitation.

"And I don't want to function without you."

Lu Han's jaw tightened.

"You're removing your autonomy entirely."

Shen Yichen answered immediately.

"I don't have autonomy I trust anymore."

A pause.

"Not after forgetting her."

Silence.

Lin Yue stepped slightly closer again.

Not away.

Closer.

Shen Yichen noticed instantly.

His attention locked on her movement like a reflex.

Lin Yue spoke gently.

"You're still living like I might disappear any second."

Shen Yichen nodded once.

"I am."

A beat.

"And I don't think I'm wrong."

Lu Han exhaled sharply.

"You're turning fear into structure."

Shen Yichen finally looked at him fully.

"And what was I before?" he asked quietly.

A pause.

"Structure without fear?"

No answer.

Because that version of him had already failed him once.

Shen Yichen turned back to Lin Yue.

Their distance was almost nothing now.

His voice softened slightly.

"Don't move away," he said quietly.

A pause.

"Even a little."

Lin Yue's expression softened slightly—but conflicted.

"That's not a request that leaves me much space," she said softly.

Shen Yichen didn't deny it.

"I know."

A pause.

"But space is where I lose you."

Silence.

And for the first time, Lin Yue realized something clearly—

he wasn't trying to trap her.

He was trying to eliminate the possibility of losing her through distance itself.

Not control.

Prevention.

Absolute, relentless prevention.

And in his mind—

that was the only form of safety left.
