Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Mira's POV

The beeping sound wouldn't stop. I turned slowly, relentlessly. The sound continued like a countdown.

My eyelids felt heavy. I opened them slowly, the dizziness hitting harder.

The blurry room turned clearer. I turned my head to my side and immediately regretted it.

My head tilted, and my stomach rolled in slow, nauseating waves.

"Ugh, what…?" The words froze as I glanced down at my arm. A thin tube was taped to the back of my hand.

I swallowed. My throat felt dry and empty.

I stared for a moment, trying to decide on my next move then I acted.

My fingers reached for the tape, peeling it off my skin when the door suddenly opened and a loud voice hissed at me. "Don't."

I raised my head to see a man in white coat suddenly at my side. He held my hand and pushed it away from my arm.

"Don't touch that," he said like a robot. "That's only going to make everything worse."

My lips parted. "Where…am I?"

"St. Helena's hospital," he replied, watching my eyes closely. He blinked after what felt like ages. "You had an accident. Someone brought you in."

Accident? That can't be real. I…

He picked up a small light and leaned closer. "I am going to run some tests on you."

The light flashed on my eyes and he spoke. "Can you see me clearly?"

I nodded, keeping my eyes focused on the light.

"Good. Very good," he said. And dropped the light. "I'll have the nurse check on you soon."

The door burst open and I felt it. The air seemed to change. It becomes colder, and heavier.

The doctor straightened instantly, and turned his gaze to the doorway.

"Master, Xavier, you were supposed to wait outside," he complained.

The man dressed in black from his neck to his foot, relaxed his shoulders and spoke calmly. "I got tired of waiting. How is she?"

His deep voice rang in my ears for a few seconds before I heard anything else.

"She's fine. Now leave," the doctor warned.

Xavier's eyes turned cold and the doctor shuddered, taking a few steps back. "Leave?" He asked and the doctor gulped.

I stayed still, not knowing what to do as the doctor grip on the light tightened. "She needs to rest. Your presence is only going to disturb her."

"Hmm," Xavier breathed, then turned his face in my direction. His eyes locked on mine, the green part looking colder by the second. "She looks fine to me."

"I haven't taken any other test yet," the doctor explained.

"Why?" Xavier asked. I instantly disliked him. He made me want to disappear.

"Because…" the doctor began, his fingers pushing up his glasses like it would fall off his face. "You're here."

"I'm not stopping you," Xavier continued. "Carry on."

"Yes, sir," the doctor answered and walked closer to me. He picked a file from the table I hadn't noticed was beside me.

"Let's go over a few steps. Miss…" he said, looking at me.

I tilted my head, waiting for him to say a word but it didn't. He blinked then reset his glasses again. "What's your name?"

"My name?" I asked, confused.

"Yes," the doctor replied.

My mind raced for answers, anything and I couldn't grasp one. "I don't know."

"Holy hell," the doctor murmured.

"What's the problem?" Xavier asked, finally pulling his gaze to the doctor.

"She's amnesiac."

The nurse walked in and handed a parcel to the doctor. He took it and glanced at it once then at my face. "It says here, your name is Mira."

He handed the ID to me, but Xavier grabbed it. "And does she remember anything else?" He asked.

I shook my head.

"She's showing signs of trauma induced amnesia," the doctor said as he wrote quickly on his paper.

"How long will it last?" Xavier asked.

"I have no idea. Maybe a week. Two or even months."

Were these two talking about me? I was in this room for God's sake.

Xavier threw the card on the bed, and adjusted his jacket. "Find out if she has a family. I'm leaving."

The doctor ran after him and stopped as soon as Xavier turned to him. "What?" Xavier demanded in a low voice.

"And if she doesn't…?" The doctor asked.

Xavier's eyes narrowed to me and then at the doctor. "I'll handle that. Notify me when she's getting discharged."

He walked out slamming the door on the doctor's face.

I watched the doctor give a fake smile then leave the room.

~

My hand bruised my hair before I rose to my feet. I was getting discharged.

I walked down the stairs, and out of the building when a black car stopped before me.

The window rolled down and a familiar face appeared. He took off his shades and turned to look at me.

"Get in," he ordered.

"What?!" I spat. There was no freaking

way in hell I was going with some stranger to God knows where.

"Get in."

"How about you get the fuck out of my face?!" I retorted and began walking away from the car.

I heard the car door clock open and I turned my head curiously to see behind me.

My body rose, pushed over a shoulder and I screamed. "Let me down! Put me down!"

I felt my body drop on the car's seat and I pushed myself up, rushed to grab the car's handle but it was stuck.

"Careful, now. You wouldn't want to fall off," his deep voice rang behind me.

I froze solid, my hand dropping from the handle and I slowly turned to face him.

"Sit," he ordered.

My body obeyed and his lips curled upward giving a wicked smile. "That's better, Mira."

"Who the hell do you think you are to talk to me that way?" I lashed.

He remained calm and undid his jacket button. The black suit rested warmly on the seat.

"Would you like to find out?" He grunted. I felt anger and shifted in my seat, ready to yell when I noticed it. The gun by his waist.

My heart dropped. He caught my gaze and smiled brighter. "Let's go home, shall we?"
