Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Mechanics of Steve

Three days had passed since Shin arrived in this world. During that time, he managed to piece together his new reality from the items left in his apartment.

He was Kagura Shin, a fifteen-year-old boy who had just graduated middle school. He had been enjoying a peaceful summer vacation before disaster struck. Now, Satoru Gojo had relocated him to a temporary dorm room at Tokyo Jujutsu High.

Gojo had already arranged the sale of Shin's family home and all their belongings. The funds were quietly transferred into Shin's account, cleanly severing his ties to his past life.

Lying on his dorm bed, Shin finally had some quiet time to study his Cursed Technique. So far, he only knew that he could manifest unlocked items using his Cursed Energy. He could store them seamlessly and summon them into his hands with a single thought.

"Let me see how unlocking items actually works," Shin muttered.

He theorized that exorcising Cursed Spirits would grant experience points. Leveling up would then automatically unlock new materials. However, Shin wanted to test if he could manually break down and craft items using standard Minecraft logic.

He summoned a massive cubic meter of Dark Oak Log. With a simple thought, the block broke down into four separate pieces. The Dark Oak Planks instantly illuminated on his system panel.

"I can unlock them manually? Perfect. Time for the next test."

Soon, all basic wood and Cobblestone items lit up in his inventory. Shin summoned a Stone Pickaxe, its edges jagged and composed of countless pixels. He swung it directly at the glass window of his dorm room.

The window did not shatter. Instead, Shin felt a strange resistance travel up the handle. Pixelated cracks spread from the center of the glass.

A second later, with a crisp pop, the window vanished. A miniature Glass Pane floated quietly on the wooden floor.

Shin picked it up, and the Glass Pane icon immediately unlocked on his panel.

"Since when do Glass Panes drop without Silk Touch? Whatever, I will just accept it," he reasoned.

Shin ran a few more experiments and discovered a hard limit. His created items instantly vanished if they moved more than sixty-four meters away from him. This meant his maximum combat range was locked at sixty-four meters, though he hoped he could upgrade it later.

More importantly, he discovered a bizarre physics glitch. While holding an item, it felt entirely weightless. But the moment he swung or used it, its true, massive weight instantly kicked in.

Later that evening, Gojo strolled into Shin's dorm room.

"Yo, Shin! You look like you are in a good mood today. I am heading to a new dessert shop nearby. Want to tag along?"

As he spoke, Gojo reached out to pick up a Stone Sword that Shin had left resting against the floor.

"Is this your Cursed Technique, Steve? You just make these blocky things?"

Gojo gripped the hilt and tried to lift it casually. The sheer, unexpected weight anchoring the blade to the floor made him raise a surprised eyebrow. He discreetly let go and glanced at Shin, who was currently busy whacking the Stone Sword with a Wooden Sword.

"I suddenly changed my mind," Gojo announced. "Shin, let us go do something way more fun than eating parfaits."

Before Shin could argue, Gojo grabbed his arm and teleported them straight into an abandoned factory. Thankfully, Shin managed to unsummon his swords in time, or they would have cratered the floor.

"Gojo-sensei, please do not tell me we are here to fight a Cursed Spirit," Shin groaned.

"Bingo! You aren't scared, are you? Do not worry, I will be watching from the sidelines. Nothing can possibly go wrong."

The two walked deeper into the factory. The lingering residue of Cursed Energy grew heavier with every step. Suddenly, a massive, grotesque claw lashed out from the ceiling directly above them.

Gojo instantly leaped back, leaving the strike zone entirely to Shin.

Shin was a complete rookie who barely understood Cursed Energy. He had zero training in basic physical reinforcement. Knowing he could not dodge in time, he summoned a solid block of Cobblestone and shoved it upward with all his might.

The block weighed roughly two tons. Driven by Shin's upward thrust, it slammed violently into the descending claw, crushing the appendage into a bloody paste.

"Skree!"

A horrifying Cursed Spirit dropped from the ceiling. It was covered in unblinking eyes and possessed seven jagged claws. Surging with Cursed Energy, its crushed arm immediately began to regenerate.

Shin scrambled back and summoned his Stone Sword. He fell into a defensive stance. In reality, he had no idea what he was doing and was simply standing perfectly still, glaring at the monster.

"Skree!"

The Cursed Spirit launched itself off the concrete, hurtling toward Shin at blinding speed. Shin instinctively squeezed his eyes shut like a normal civilian, but sheer panic forced them open a split second later.

He frantically placed four blocks of Cobblestone in front of him, stacking them into a solid Cobblestone Wall.

"Bam!"

The Cursed Spirit slammed headfirst into the stone. The wall did not budge an inch, though dense, pixelated cracks spiderwebbed across its surface.

The monster lashed out with another frenzied swipe. The attack broke the barrier, instantly reverting the wall back into four floating Cobblestone drops, which Shin quickly reclaimed.

In his very first real battle, Shin was hopelessly outmatched. He could only defend clumsily, throwing himself into awkward rolls to avoid the beast's relentless strikes.

Meanwhile, Gojo stood a safe distance away, casually observing the struggle.

"Shin! What are you so afraid of?" Gojo called out. "Are you scared of getting hurt? If you just keep dodging, you will run out of stamina and die. You need to embrace the madness! You have to be willing to trade blood for blood! I am right here, so stop holding back!"

Gojo was right. Shin was terrified. Like any normal person, he feared pain and mutilation. He wanted to kill the curse without taking a single scratch because he had never experienced real combat trauma. Simply put, he lacked the broken mindset required of a Jujutsu Sorcerer.

Hearing his teacher's taunt, Shin gritted his teeth. He tightened his grip on the Stone Sword's hilt and charged.

The Cursed Spirit's claw collided with the Stone Sword. The four-ton weapon completely overpowered the appendage, cleanly shearing it off. At the exact same moment, another claw ripped across Shin's thigh, carving three deep, bone-chilling gashes into his flesh.

"Ah! It hurts, but it is actually not as unbearable as I thought!" Shin gasped.

It was the ultimate biological truth. A person was just a fragile, terrified creature until they took a real hit. Once the blood flowed and the adrenaline spiked, primal instinct took over, turning them into a raging animal.

Riding that high, Shin raised the Stone Sword and brought it down viciously onto the Cursed Spirit's main body.

To Shin, he had just effortlessly cleaved a massive chunk out of the monster. To the Cursed Spirit, a human had just smashed it with a four-ton, serrated nightmare. The pixelated edges of the blade brutally shredded through its flesh and violently tore away its Cursed Energy.

"Skree!"

Thump, thump.

Shin could no longer feel his bleeding thigh. His heart hammered in his chest, and his mind felt impossibly sharp. He felt like he had limitless strength. But before he could swing again, Gojo teleported to his side and casually stepped on the Cursed Spirit, crushing it into a puddle of gore.

"Alright, mission accomplished," Gojo chimed cheerfully. "You are bleeding quite a bit, so let us head back to Jujutsu High. We have a very skilled doctor on campus."

He grabbed Shin by the shoulder and warped them back to the school.

Amidst a series of pleasant, chiming experience sounds, Shin leveled up three times. His system panel happily notified him that nine new items had unlocked.

He had gained access to Cherry Wood, Birch Wood, Apples, Bread, String, Wool, Pufferfish, Pink Axolotls, and a type of Tropical Fish.
