Chapter 273: What Came In
Nyx crouched beside the iron gate. Her fingers brushed the cracked frosty layer.
She kept quiet so that she could avoid triggering the alarms. She knew how to deal with situation with caution.
She stood up and melted back into the dark. She began to hunt.
She did not look for footprints. She looked for what felt out of place. The air was strangely still, the dust had been disturbed in tiny ways, and the shadows seemed slightly wrong. Something had come out of the black water and walked into the eastern quarter.
The trail did not lead toward the barricades. It avoided the medical tents and the heavy weapons stores.
It moved through the narrowest alleys, avoiding Lucien's traps with frightening precision. The invisible trail continued north, passing through groups of terrified civilians gathered around cold fire pits.
Nyx followed the disturbed air until it reached the heavy wooden doors of Warehouse Four.
