Chapter 2 - CHAPTER 1: THE DAY WE MET

The first time Sofia saw Kenzo, it wasn't in some grand, movie-like moment. There were no dramatic violins. No slow-motion glance. Just… an ordinary day. But sometimes, ordinary days are where everything begins.

It was a warm afternoon at the university courtyard. Sofia sat on the edge of a stone bench, her notebook open but untouched. The pages were filled with half-written thoughts, crossed-out lines, and unfinished stories—just like her life at the moment.

She sighed, resting her chin on her hand. "Writer's block," she muttered to herself. "Or maybe just… life block."

A light breeze passed by, gently flipping the pages of her notebook. She quickly reached to hold them down—

"Careful." A voice. Calm. Low. Unexpectedly close.

Sofia looked up. And for a second—everything paused.

He stood there. Tall. Quiet. Observing her with steady, unreadable eyes. Kenzo Nakamura.

She didn't know his name yet… but somehow, she felt like she should.

"I think your notes are trying to escape," he said softly, nodding toward her notebook.

Sofia blinked, slightly flustered as she closed it. "Oh—uh, thanks. I wasn't paying attention."

A small, polite smile. That was all he gave. But there was something about him—something quiet, something heavy. Like he was carrying stories he never told anyone.

"You're Sofia Reyes, right?" he asked.

Sofia tilted her head, surprised. "You know me?"

Kenzo nodded slightly. "I've seen your work in the literature class. Your essays… they stand out."

That caught her off guard. "Really?" she asked, a small spark lighting up her expression.

Kenzo didn't smile much. But his gaze softened. "They're honest," he said. "That's rare."

Sofia felt something shift inside her chest. Not loud. Not overwhelming. Just… warm.

For a moment, neither of them spoke. Just the wind. The distant chatter of students. And the quiet space forming between them.

"I didn't know anyone actually read those," Sofia admitted.

Kenzo looked away briefly. "I did." Short. Simple. But it stayed with her.

A silence followed. Not uncomfortable. Just… unknown.

Sofia studied him carefully now. "Do you write too?" she asked.

Kenzo hesitated. A flicker of something crossed his face. "No," he answered.

But the way he said it… Sofia didn't believe him. Still, she smiled lightly. "Well… if you ever try, I'd love to read it."

For the first time, something subtle changed in his expression. A faint pause. A quiet acknowledgment. Like her words had reached somewhere deeper than intended.

The bell in the distance rang, signaling the end of the break.

Sofia stood, gathering her things. "I should go," she said.

Kenzo nodded. But neither of them moved immediately. It was strange. Like something unfinished. Like a moment neither of them wanted to end… but neither could explain why.

"Kenzo," he said suddenly.

Sofia looked up. "What?"

"My name." There was no emotion in his voice. But something about the way he said it… felt important.

Sofia smiled. "Sofia," she replied softly. "Nice to meet you, Kenzo."

For a brief second— Their eyes met again. And in that quiet, fleeting moment… something began. Something neither of them understood yet. Something soft. Something dangerous. Something that would change everything.

But for now— They were just two strangers. Standing in the same place. On the same day. At the very beginning of something they didn't know how to stop.
