Chapter 22 - A Trip To The Store.

"Thank you sir!" Lukas walked out of the Daycare, not realising that he had to pay for the experience. That didn't really matter to him though; because that was the best time of his life.

He contemplates on either going home, or walking around and doing nothing. He decides on the former. With him taking another right.

He noticed that the sky was still bright, even though he had spent 4 hours there. He basked in the sun once again, feeling like he was being rewarded by the angels in the clouds. He stood there for a solid 5 minutes, before he felt something fall onto his head. He started wiping it off, and looked down to see that it was bird shit. He was so disgusted; but he couldn't do anything about it at the time.

Uh god dammit! Lukas thought while running to go find some paper towels.

He sees a hotdog stand, and runs over to it. Begging the guy behind it for some paper towels. "P-please mister! Do you have some paper towels?!" Lukas says while looking like some sort of serial killer. The guy behind the stand quickly gives Lukas some, and shuts the concession window in his face.

"Oh thank fuck!" he wipes off the bird poop the best he could.

After that absolute fiasco, Lukas had no idea what to do next. Everything in this town seemed really boring in his opinion.

He then remembered what he did in junior year of high school. Lukas thought that it would be pretty sick if he could do it again. So, he went off on this brand new mission of his; to get some cigarettes.

Lukas aimlessly walked around the area, trying to find a gas station, or maybe a convenience store of some sort. For some reason though, there was none to be found.

Annoyed and confused, Lukas decides to walk up to one of the B.O.B. things on the street, and ask it for some directions to a gas station. The thing told him to take a turn, and then walk for 4 blocks, and then hard pivot right, and he should be there. Lukas thanks the thing, but it doesn't really react to anything anymore. So he just walks away uncomfortably.

He pivots left, just like the B.O.B. said. Finally he now has a lead for some good cigarettes. As he was walking though, he noticed something on one of the lamp posts. It seemed like some sort of flyer. Lukas ripped it off of the lamp post, and looked it over.

"Missing kid?" Lukas whispered to himself. "10 years old… missing since yesterday…" Lukas kept reading. "Whelp, now I got more shit to do…" He folds the flyer, and puts it into his pocket. Keeping it for later. He continued walking for a bit, looking at all the different insects and animals crawling all over the place. They reminded him of the rats that were very mean to him earlier that day.

After what he thought was 4 blocks, he pivoted to the right, and finally saw a gas station. He was so happy he started jumping for joy.

Lukas ran up to the place, full sprint. Accidentally knocking over some random family's dumpster.

The store clerk was happily reading his newspaper like the old man he is, but then he noticed some guy outside the store. "Come in!" he yelled at him through the door, and the guy came in.

Lukas looks around the store, trying to spot the cigarettes as quickly as possible. The store clerk asks if he needs something; but Lukas just ignores him and starts to wander around the store. The clerk just snorts at this kid's blatant disrespect, and gets back to reading his newspaper.

Lukas manages to locate those cigarettes after an awkward amount of time. He takes them over to the register, and hands the guy some money that he stole from Mark. Lukas makes sure to also look away just before the two could make any sort of eye contact.

"Will that be all?" the clerk finished scanning much quicker than Lukas would have imagined.

"Are you… gonna… scan my ID… or something…" Lukas whispered to him.

"Nah, we don't need to do that anymore. Remember?" The clerk reminded him of when they made it so that anyone could smoke, no matter the age. "Anyway, have a good rest of your day sir!" The clerk waved him off as he sped walked out of the store. Not wanting to spend another second there.

He walked out to see that the sky was finally starting to turn red. Indicating that it was time to hurry back before the others got worried. Lukas makes sure to light one and put it in his mouth. When lighting it up for the first time in forever; the taste, giving him a distorted sense of nostalgia. It calmed him down from usually the anxious person he is most of the time.

Lukas somehow, someway, trips over the same dumpster as before. "Fuck!" he yelled in the air, before covering his mouth in shame.

He gets back up, and puts the cigarette back into his mouth; before booking it back to the station. Hopefully Hannah doesn't beat my ass because of this.. Lukas hopes.

Back in the gas station, as soon as Lukas leaves, the clerk's whole demeaner flips. He whips out his phone, and dials someone's number. He scratches his head, trying to stop his raging migraine. He's relieved when the person at the end of the line picks up.

"Hey! It's me, John! Y'know about the pretend college student that the boss wanted us to look for?" John asks the other person.

[the one with long brown hair, and one brown eye?]

"Yes! That one!"

[what about him?]

"Well… I think I found someone who looks just like him! He came to my store for cigarettes, and didn't really say anything" John plays with the Rubix Cube on his lap.

[and where is your gas station located?]

"Around Tempest. I think he went left from my store by the way"

[huh. I got another call from a hotdog stand not a while back near your location]

"Wow. Really! It might actually be him then!"

[perfect! We'll tell you-know-who about this as soon as we can!] The girl on the other end hangs up before John could say anything else.

John puts his phone back into his pocket, and beams with joy. "Finally! I might be able to afford food again!" he says with the biggest smile on his face.
