Chapter 1 - Chapter one

Isabel's POV

Blackwood dynasty. A year ago this was all I dreamed about. Now I'm finally here. I zone out of my thoughts when Theodore Blackwood, owner of Blackwood dynasty. Well it was passed down to him by his father and yeah you know how the generational run goes.

"Welcome to our luxury dynasty, I'll show you around but you can find your way." He says and then leaves me all by myself like I know where to go. His walking stick is so bent it could break at any minute. If it was not made of gold.

I look around the reception from top to bottom. The space is beautifully adorned in black and gold. The chandelier is probably my whole body size and it's shiny cause well it's made of diamonds. If this wasn't a jewelry dynasty one would think they do blood money.

The silence of this place instills fear in me. There's this cold and distant air coming from God knows where. The windows are dark adding more edge to it. When I'm done looking around I notice that the employees at the reception and the cleaners have a neutral face all the time. But the fear in the eyes cannot be missed.

That's when I see him. The bane of my existence. Callum Blackwood, heir to the Blackwood dynasty. I hate the fact that he's so sexy. His name alone makes me shiver. His sharp jawline, his lustrous lips, his calm and collected self but there's something about his eyes. Those green and gray eyes. They crack at any instance.

The way he walks into the reception. All the employees stand straight. I play along too. His eyes brush over me and that's able to soak my panties. He stares at me for a while then acts like he did not see me.

They don't greet him . They don't bow. They just watch him strut up the staircase. Weird. There's something ominous about this place and the way they act.

Something tells me my plan will definitely take a long while.

But I'm never giving up, not after how they destroyed my life.

I hear a few voices from upstairs about five minutes after Callum had gone up the stairs. Him and his father descend from upstairs.

Theodore clears his throat.

"She's the one." He points towards my direction.

Everything in me tries not to look back. I can't look like an idiot on my first day.

"She" Callum pauses and eyes me. "Executive assistant?"

"Y-yes." I replied to his question hoping he didn't notice my stutter.

"They never last a month. Goodluck." He says before giving me one last look before walking away.

If only he knew.

He should wear a blue suit more often. He looks good on it. Not his everyday black. Yes, I stalk this family so I know.

His father walks up to me.

"Meet the receptionist, she'll take down your details and everything and then report to his office. And don't forget why you're here." He says before leaving the same way his son did.

I go over to the receptionists desk and she asks me a series of questions like she was programmed to do so. What do they do to these people? They look like they don't have voice of their own.

Everyone jumps at the boom of Callum's voice when they hear you're fired from upstairs. Woah.

A man comes running down with his belongings but there's a hint of relief in his eyes.

"Who was that?" I asked the receptionist.

"His executive assistant. Well, now the former." She whispers.

"Why are you whispering?" She's whispering like she stole something.

"Decorum according to Vivienne."

Ah yes, Vivienne. Mother of the heir as she likes to describe herself in all her numerous interviews like she's the owner. I internally roll my eyes and give her all my documents.

She gasps.

"What?" I whisper-scream.

"You're twenty seven."

"So?"

"They don't hire people younger than 30 here."

"You're joking."

"I really wish I was."

"That's ridiculous."

A call comes in on the phone on her desk.

"Yes sir. Yes. I'll inform everyone now." She drops the call and swallows hard.

Then she turns to me.

"He's calling for you."

"Who?"

"Mr Blackwood." Oh. Oh my God I was meant to meet him.

"Oh, okay."

"Goodluck." Why's everyone saying that?

I take deep breaths as I approach the stairs.

Okay Isabel, this is it. We've come too far to be scared now. Think about all they did, what they took from you, the plan.

As I climb the staircase which is also adorned in gold and black, deliberately taking one step at a time, I see what looks like a hall of fame.

A man who looks like the older and greyer version of Callum and it's not Theodore so it's probably his grandfather.

Then I see Theodore. Well a younger version of him. The genes are so strong that if Theodore wasn't old and grey now they would mix him and Callum up.

Then I see Vivienne. She's the only woman on this wall. She looks like she could suck out a person's soul. I'm imagining Maleficent because honestly that is the best description for her. She looks and breathes evil.

I wonder what hers and Theodore's relationship looks like. I know that the whole perfect family façade is all a lie.

Then there's Callum.

His jet black hair can't go unnoticed. His chiseled jawline and those lips. I'd kiss them any day, probably the day I get my revenge.

I walk through the black staircase reminding myself of everything they took from me. I'll make them pay one by one and I know just who my first target is.

Standing in front of Callum's office feels too surreal. The door has that cold but hidden name of his. Callum B. Blackwood. I tried for years to find out what the B stands for but it was to no avail. I wonder why it's like that.

I take a deep breath before entering the office. And being struck with dark green eyes that look….broken.
