Seventeen years old Osaro had dreams of a bright future, but everything changes when her father makes a decision that destroys the life she once knew. Against her will, she is forced into marriage with Mr. Okhizu, a much older and powerful man whose household is ruled by fear, silence, and unquestionable obedience.
Osaro enters her new home hoping that, somehow, she will find happiness and adapt to her new life. Instead, she discovers that she is not the first young woman to suffer under Mr. Okhizu's roof. His wives carry painful secrets, scars, and stories they are too afraid to tell.
Amina, one of his wives, reveals only a fragment of her own terrible ordeal. Mama Adana bears the scars of her husband's violence. Oge, despite being his sister, secretly sympathizes with Osaro and risks his anger to help her. Even Osaro's childhood friend, Omege, becomes involved when she secretly visits her, reminding Osaro of the dreams and future she was forced to abandon.
But as Mr. Okhizu's cruelty grows worse, Osaro begins to realize that simply surviving will not be enough.
When her mother finally comes looking for her, Osaro hears her voice from behind the locked walls of the compound but is too weak to reach her. Her mother leaves without discovering the truth, while Amina is left carrying the guilt of protecting a cruel man's secret.
Trapped between a father who betrayed her, a husband who treats her as his property, and a household built on fear, Osaro must find the courage to fight for the life that was taken from her.
