Chapter 8 - For Once, Not Them

⏳ Same Afternoon — Campus Lawn

Your phone was still in your hand.

Screen locked.

Two messages.

Two directions.

Hana's voice echoed in your head—

"You should at least admit something is happening."

You inhaled slowly.

Then—

without replying—

you put your phone inside your bag.

"I'm not going," you said.

Minji blinked. "What?"

"Where?" Hana asked.

"Anywhere," you replied."I'm staying here."

Silence.

Yuna smiled softly.

"Good."

⏳ Time passes — 30 minutes later

You were still there.

Talking.

Laughing.

Lying back on the grass like nothing existed beyond this moment.

And for the first time in a while—

your mind wasn't divided.

No constant checking.

No thinking—

Did I reply? Did I miss something?

Just…

you.

⏳ Elsewhere — Campus Corridor

Jimin checked his phone again.

No reply.

He frowned.

"…Weird."

Usually—

you replied fast.

Or at least reacted.

He typed again.

Jimin:"Hello?? Did you disappear?"

Sent.

Still nothing.

He stared at the screen for a second longer—

then locked it.

"…She's busy," he muttered.

But something about it felt off.

⏳ Somewhere else — Library

Taehyung sat with his laptop open.

Eyes scanning the screen.

But every few minutes—

they drifted.

To his phone.

No reply.

He didn't text again.

Didn't double message.

But—

he noticed.

And that was enough.

⏳ Back to you — Evening

"Let's go out," Minji suddenly said.

You sat up. "Out?"

"Yeah. Off campus. Food. Lights. Actual life."

Hana grinned. "Before you get kidnapped by your project again."

You hesitated.

Then—

you nodded.

"…Okay."

⏳ Evening — Streets of Seoul

Lights everywhere.

Music.

Food stalls.

Noise.

"THIS is what you've been missing," Minji said dramatically.

You laughed.

"Okay, this is actually nice."

Yuna handed you a drink.

Hana dragged you toward a random shop.

And slowly—

you forgot.

Not completely.

But enough.

⏳ Night — 9:47 PM

Your phone buzzed again.

You checked.

Jimin (3 messages):"Hello??""You alive?""Wow okay ignore me then 👍"

You couldn't help it.

You smiled.

Then—

another notification.

Taehyung (1 message):"We'll continue tomorrow."

Simple.

Direct.

Very him.

You stared at both chats.

Two different reactions.

One trying to pull you back.

One… stepping back.

And for some reason—

both affected you.

⏳ Later — Walking Home Alone

Your friends had left.

You walked slowly.

Streetlights casting soft shadows.

Your mind finally caught up.

You had ignored them.

Both of them.

Not because you were angry.

Not because you didn't care.

But because—

👉 you needed space.

And now—

you felt it.

That strange calm.

But also—

something else.

A question.

Why did it matter so much… how they reacted?

⏳ Next Day — Classroom

You walked in.

And immediately—

you felt it.

Something was… different.

Jimin was there.

Talking to someone else.

Laughing.

But when his eyes met yours—

The smile faded slightly.

Not gone.

Just…

less.

"Hey," you said, sitting down.

"…Hey," he replied.

Short.

You noticed.

⏳ A few minutes later

Taehyung walked in.

Same calm steps.

Same presence.

He looked at you.

"Morning."

"Morning," you replied.

Normal.

Almost too normal.

⏳ During class

Jimin didn't lean over.

Didn't whisper.

Didn't joke with you like usual.

Taehyung focused on his notes.

Occasionally speaking—

but only about work.

No unnecessary conversations.

No casual comments.

Nothing extra.

And suddenly—

you felt it.

The absence.

⏳ After class

"Project," Taehyung said.

You nodded.

Jimin stood up.

"…Yeah."

No one moved immediately.

Awkward.

Subtle.

But there.

⏳ Walking together (but not really)

You walked side by side.

But not like before.

Not close.

Not comfortable.

Just…

there.

⏳ Café

Same table.

Same place.

Different feeling.

"So," you started."About yesterday—"

"It's fine," Jimin said quickly.

You paused.

"I didn't reply because—"

"I said it's fine."

He smiled.

But it didn't reach his eyes.

Taehyung watched quietly.

Then said—

"You don't have to explain."

You looked at him.

"…I want to."

Silence.

Because now—

this wasn't just about space anymore.

It was about…

👉 why their reactions mattered to you.

⏳ Final Moment

You sat there.

Between them.

Same position as day one.

But now—

everything had changed.

Not because of what you did.

But because—

👉 you didn't choose either of them.

And for the first time—

they felt it too.
