Chapter 6 - Chapter 6 {Blackmarket}

As the school speaker's voice echoed through the hallways, Ludovica's name was called, and she frowned, wondering what kind of trouble she had gotten herself into this time.

She had been on her best behavior, not fighting, skipping class, or even talking back to the teachers, so what could be the reason for the summons?

With a sigh, she stood up from the chessboard, where she had been engrossed in a game with Paige, and made her way to the principal's office.

As she entered the office, she was greeted by Principal John, who was beaming with joy. Ludovica's eyes narrowed slightly, wondering what was behind the principal's enthusiastic expression. She took a seat, her eyes fixed on Principal John.

"Did I do something wrong? Wait, what trouble did I cause?" Her voice was laced with a soft chuckle, but her eyes betrayed a hint of wariness.

Principal John's smile only grew wider as she took Ludovica's hand in hers.

"You got into Dixia Liyin Academy!" The words hung in the air, and Ludovica's eyes widened in shock.

She coughed, water spluttering out of her mouth, as she stared at the acceptance letter in her hand. Whoever wanted that spot could have it, she thought, her mind racing with the implications. A norm like her, attending an academy for the elite? It was a recipe for disaster.

For a moment, Ludovica just held the letter, her eyes scanning the words, her mind reeling with the possibilities. A soft smile spread across her face, but her eyes told a different story.

She just wanted to burn the letter, to rid herself of the burden that came with attending such a prestigious academy. What was worse than throwing oneself into a den of wolves? The thought sent a shiver down her spine.

With a quiet murmuration, Ludovica stood up, the acceptance letter still clutched in her hand, and walked back to the classroom. The room fell silent as she entered, all eyes fixed on her.

She was, after all, the most popular girl in the backwater school, known for her beauty, intelligence, and sharp wit.

The news of her acceptance into Dixia Liyin Academy spread like wildfire, and the room erupted into a cacophony of whispers and gasps.

As Ludovica returned to her seat, Paige turned to her, a look of shock and awe on her face.

As Ludovica returned home, she was greeted by the silence of her empty apartment. The twins, Jennie and Justin, had left to travel with their new master, and Ludovica was alone with her thoughts.

She gazed at the acceptance letter, her mind made up to ignore it and let the scholarship slip away.

With a sigh, she sat cross-legged in her room, surrounded by the cleanliness and order she loved. The Seculara potion, finally complete, lay before her, and she took a sip, feeling the liquid slide down her throat. Her eyes closed, and she fell into a deep cultivation, her goal to let the scholarship go.

As the days passed, Ludovica's body began to change. The Seculara potion, a rare and potent elixir, coursed through her veins, altering her very essence. Her body, once a canvas of ordinary flesh and blood, began to transform into a masterpiece of unparalleled beauty. Her hair, once a simple, dark brown, grew longer and longer, until it cascaded down her back like a river of silver and lavender silk. Her skin, once smooth and unblemished, took on a radiant, jade-like quality, as if infused with the essence of the finest porcelain.

And then, there were her eyes. Those windows to the soul, once a deep, piercing brown, now shimmered like a galaxy of colors, a mesmerizing blend of crimson, golden, pinkish, and lavender hues. They sparkled like diamonds, radiating an otherworldly beauty that seemed almost...unnatural.

As the month drew to a close, Ludovica's body began to stir, her senses slowly returning to the world of the living. She felt herself being enveloped in a warm, golden light, as if the very essence of the sun had been distilled within her. And when she finally opened her eyes, she was met with a sight that took her breath away.

She was surrounded by a cocoon of pure, shimmering energy, a delicate, crystalline structure that seemed to pulse with an inner light. The cocoon slowly began to open, petals unfolding like a flower, and Ludovica's eyes widened as she took in her new surroundings.

She was no longer in her room, no longer in her own body. She was...transformed. The Seculara potion had done its work, and Ludovica had emerged, reborn, like a phoenix from the ashes.

As she gazed at her new form, Ludovica felt a sense of wonder, of awe, and of trepidation. What did this new body mean? What kind of power, what kind of abilities, lay hidden within her? And what of the scholarship, the one she had so callously ignored? Had she truly let it slip away, or was there still a chance to claim it?

The questions swirled in her mind, like a maelstrom of uncertainty, as Ludovica stood up, her new body swaying slightly, like a flower in the breeze. She took a step forward, her silvery lavender hair cascading down her back, like a river of night.

Ludovica's laughter was short-lived, as Zoey's sudden arrival and stern expression dampened her mood. Zoey's words cut deep, and Ludovica felt a pang of guilt, knowing she had let her adoptive mother down.

Zoey's determination was evident, her eyes blazing with a fierce intensity that brooked no argument. Ludovica's cold and indifferent expression faltered, as she realized she was no match for Zoey's stubbornness.

"Come on, we will go to the black market," Zoey snapped, her voice firm and unyielding, leaving Ludovica with no choice but to comply.

As Zoey's words hung in the air, Ludovica felt a sense of resignation wash over her. She had known that Zoey would not take no for an answer, and now she was being dragged into a world she had desperately tried to avoid.

The prestigious psychic universities within the interstellar world were not just any institutions - they were the crème de la crème of psychic education, and only the most talented and gifted individuals were accepted.

Ludovica had never felt she belonged in that world, and now, with Zoey's intervention, she was being forced to confront her destiny head-on.

Zoey's eyes seemed to bore into Ludovica's very soul, as if daring her to defy her. The air was thick with tension, and Ludovica could feel the weight of Zoey's expectations settling upon her shoulders.

She knew that Zoey had always dreamed of her becoming a powerful psychic, one who would bring honor and prestige to their family.

But Ludovica had other plans, plans that did not involve becoming a pawn in the psychic world's game of power and politics.

As Zoey grabbed a cigarette and blew out a stream of smoke, Ludovica felt a wave of frustration wash over her. Why couldn't Zoey just leave her alone? Why did she have to meddle in her affairs, always pushing her to be something she was not?

The questions swirled in her mind, but she knew better than to voice them aloud. Zoey was not a woman to be trifled with, and Ludovica knew that to cross her would be to invite disaster.

"Let's just get this over with," Ludovica muttered, resigned to her fate. She knew that Zoey would not rest until she had secured her place at the university, and so she steeled herself for the ordeal ahead.

The black market, a place where psychic abilities were bought and sold, was not a place for the faint of heart. But with Zoey by her side, Ludovica felt a sense of trepidation, knowing that she was in for a wild ride.

As they set off towards the black market, Ludovica couldn't help but wonder what lay ahead. Would she be able to navigate the treacherous world of psychic politics, or would she find herself lost in the shadows, forever bound to the whims of those more powerful than her?
