[Kat's POV]
"You look good, hubby~!"
Julius put on white pants and a black long-sleeved compression shirt. As for covering his identity, he said…
"Whoa! Give me one!"
"Sure." He clipped a small, obsidian-like magnetic earring onto his lobe. In an instant, his messy black hair bled into a shimmering, snow-white shock, and his deep blue eyes swirled until they became a piercing, electric purple. He took out another magnet and pressed it into my palm. "It's set to match my original appearance."
"So we'll be matching? A super-couple!"
"Hahaha~" He put his hand on my head, patting it with a bright, lighthearted smile. The smile made me feel tingly inside; the warmth of his palm against my scalp made me so happy that he was like this with me. I still didn't understand why or how I got attached so fast, but whatever it was, I didn't care. I just wanted us to be together.
'Jeez, who would've thought I'd be saying this?'
I shook my head, enjoying his pats. I didn't believe in love at first sight, especially with all the bad luck I've had. Perhaps this was just extremely good luck finally showing up to counteract all the bitter years.
"Julius, can we get some too?"
"Sorry." He raised his hands in defeat toward the other two. "It's a single pair only."
"Aw." Gwen looked upset. I couldn't blame her, as this was an awesome device to have.
"If I get more, I'll give them to you."
"Promise?"
"Yeah."
Gwen turned away and swung out, Peter following behind her.
"Do you really not have another pair?" I asked.
"I have an unlimited amount of them, to be completely honest."
"Then why lie to her?"
"Because you would be sad. You wanted us to be a super-couple, right? If they had the same earrings as us, then that would ruin it."
A goofy smile spread across my face.
"Unless you want me to…"
"No! Maybe Gwen, but definitely not Peter!"
"Uh. Is something wrong with Peter? I quite like him."
"Nothing's wrong… I don't like how passive he is."
"What does that have to do with these?" he tapped the magnet earring on his right ear.
"Just don't give him one until he finally confesses to MJ!"
"Sure." He shrugged and started lifting off the ground, defying gravity as easily as breathing.
"You can fly?!"
"Didn't you see me levitate yesterday?"
"But that's different!" I lifted my arms, jumping up and down with excitement. His eyes locked onto me, tracking my movement with a sudden, intense focus until a thin trail of red started leaking from his nose. "There! You got your payment, so carry me."
"Y-you seductress!" He laughed, wiping the nosebleed with the back of his hand before swooping down. He picked me up in a firm princess carry, my back resting against his strong arm. Our first night watch was beginning!
…
..
.
"Julius."
"You can teleport, too?"
"Yep."
He shot toward the sky, but before I could even process the hideout from above, the scene changed instantly to the top of the Times Square tower. The city's vibrant nightlife below looked like a trail of glowing ants as we hovered high above.
"Robbery on Fifth Avenue. Four suspects, all armed."
The sudden crackling of the intercom nearly scared me to death.
"So are we—"
The scene changed once again, the sudden shift in air pressure popping my ears.
"—Can I handle it then? You'll make it boring!"
"I guess, but if I think you're in danger, I'm stepping in."
"Thank you, Hubby~!" I slipped out of his grasp, my boots hitting the pavement as I stared at the robbers trying to raid the store's cash registers. Out of all the places, I couldn't understand robbing a convenience store, but that wasn't for me to worry about.
"Stop, or we'll shoot!" one of them barked, his hands shaking as he leveled a handgun.
"Aw~ but someone else has already made their shot~!"
Fwoo!
In a blur, I was before one of the robbers. I webbed his foot to the ground before hitting his chin with a sharp palm strike. The other robbers hesitated, giving me the chance to get closer, their fingers freezing on the triggers. As soon as they realized that their partner wasn't my shield anymore, that's when the bullets finally came.
"Whoa~"
Bang! Bang!
"You gotta aim better~!"
My powers were wildly enhanced, all my natural gifts. My flexibility made dodging this a breeze, and the super-speed made the fight feel like a walk in the park.
"Damn it—wha—Gyuk?!"
I dashed in again, but a stray bullet struck one of them in the head, the crack of the gunshot echoing off the tiled walls.
'What bad luck…'
The other two I knocked out quickly. The whole process was quick, but I couldn't help but stand there wondering what to do. The place had CCTV, so I definitely wouldn't get in trouble, but seeing the shattered remains of a human skull made me puke. This was the first time I had seen something so putrid.
"There, there."
Julius's warm hands rubbed my shoulders, pulling me away from the grisly sight. It took a while, but the sound of distant police cars wailing snapped me back to attention.
"Don't worry."
Once again, in a blink, we were somewhere else.
"Central Park?"
"Yep. Just relax and calm your mind."
"O-okay." I hugged him tightly, burying my face in his black compression shirt. I wasn't expecting to see that tonight. I didn't know if I'd be able to eat anything after this. That was so gruesome.
"Tch. Come out."
Julius clicked his tongue. A crimson-dressed ninja falling out of the trees. I could feel Julius's demeanor change, his palm covering my ears as his fingers blocked my eyes. A few seconds passed before he freed me from that silent world.
"What happened?"
"I just gave him a hand, that's all."
He smiled so brightly. The details didn't really matter to me right now anyway. I continued taking his warmth, calming my mind from the disgusting scene of brain matter splattering.
