When I woke up, Abi was gone. I felt much more refreshed, and most importantly, felt like I could breathe easier. My heartbeat felt more regular too and it wasn't bouncing around all over inside my ribs.
The room still felt somewhat cold, but I saw that Abi had prepared thicker pajamas for me and set them on my bedside table. She really was thoughtful.
My body creaked as I got up and stretched, but compared to how I was feeling before—was it yesterday? Or is it still today?—it was a massive improvement.
I then remembered that I didn't get to speak to Senne properly since I came back. With a lighter heart, I looked around the room and whispered,
"Senne."
From the shadow in the corner, she emerged, but she didn't say anything.
"Sorry, I just kinda fell asleep. I think we need to…talk."
After a pause that lasted a little too long, she finally said,
"I don't understand, Bree."
"That's what I wanted to say, actually. What happened last night?" I asked her.
