Chapter 4 - 4: Difficulty

  Huh?

Now that he thought of it, how is Hermione in the same cabin as him?

  A coincidence? Weird...

Outside the window, The vast fields had disappeared at some point, and the sunlight had turned into just dim rays of light bleeding in through the thick foliage. It turns out the train had entered a yew forest.

The tips of Hermione's ears slowly turned red. She opened her mouth to say something, but her head was a little blank and it only served to make Sheen even more confused.

"Oh! She just said, "It's incredible that you can transfigure already!""

A voice sounded out from the dark haired boy, Justin, who quickly replaced Hermione to answer.

He pointed to the silver needle on the table, Drawing Sheen and Hermione's attention to it.

"What did you do? Heard Hermione say it's a really difficult magic." He was nervous, praying the boy across from them hadn't heard their conversation from earlier.

"The spell is Transfiguro, with a pause between Trans and figuro ."

Sheen reviewed his practice to identify possible key points, it was his usual method and so far it had been quite effective.

"Well, of course, you need to have a clear mental picture of what you want your object to look like, as you can see on page 5 of "The Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration.""

Soon, the train pulled out of the yew forest, and the box became bright again, the light reflecting in Sheen's emerald green eyes.

"So my failures were due to a lack of pause...? ... Ah, nice to meet you,

You may not have heard me earlier, but I'm Justin, Justin Fletchley. "

After hearing Sheen's words, Justin breathed a sigh of relief.

  "Hermione Granger."

There was still a blush on Hermione's face, but her voice was clear and full.

  "Sheen Green."

Sheen found Hermione a little strange, something seemed off about her compared to the one he knew about from the books. He shrugged, differences were natural, after all, there was no Sheen Green in the novels, yet here he was.

There were more important things waiting for him.

Sheen began flipping through the pages of Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration, but his eyes were on the learning panel, he couldn't just stare into empty space with people around him could he.

'Let me see, luck or transfiguration genius .'

As his eyes slowly moved down, Sheen had to admit, he was a little nervous, even more nervous than when he drew cards while playing uno in his previous life... a hundred times!

The power in the game is fake, but now it is a real talent that concerns the future.

  [Title: Transfiguration Apprentice ]

[Small increase in perception of Transfiguration, small increase in Transfiguration talent]

As expected, Sheen held his breath and looked down

[Wizard Sheen, Transfiguration Talent: Light Purple (Transfiguration Apprentice title has been granted). Note: Generally, wizards are green]

[Evaluation: You are a true genius in the branch of magic called Transfiguration. Through good mentorship, you are bound to become a master of Transfiguration.]

Purple Epic?! I am really a Transfiguration genius?! It wasn't just a fluke?!

Sheen felt like her ears were ringing like someone was beating drums and gongs against the walls of his ear, he felt like singing about his good luck.

A gacha player who is playing with the base characters for months is the only one that can understand the true worth of an epic character.

Once Ms McGonnagal starts to actually teach him...

He shook his head, supressing his inner excitement. It was all still to be seen, geniuses still have to work hard to actually look like geniuses. The next seven years...they would determine what his life would actually be like...

At the same time, something slowly started to make sense in his mind.

The wizarding world was ruled by talent, but it seems that talent wasn't generalized, Different wizards may have different strengths

Neville for example, he was weak in many other subjects maybed average at best but his herbology was by far the the strongest compared to many of his peers, older or younger.

On the other hand Hermione was talented at most branches of magic, but her DADA is not as good as Harry's, and her prophecy was a little...explosive at best.

And for Sheen to excel in seven courses, he will have to work harder in the subjects he is not good at. While the dificulty varied from subject to subject, talent would determine whether he made it or not. If it had turned out he wasn't good at transfiguration, he probably would've spent the vast majority of his free time in his quarters to try and make up for it, thankfully he wouldn't have to now.

Ah but this would not be a problem with the subject alone, or the talent, but more importantly with the professors, his mentors who will play a vital role in the curriculum.

Just like in college, the specific knowledge points are all there. Whether you learn soimething in class or if you end up having to go through the notes multiple times would be up to the proffessors and how well they taught.

  By logic,

The most difficult main course should be Potions, Proffessor Snape would be a pain in the ass to deal with. It also has a lot of detailed and extensive knowledge. Not to mention very dangerous experimental component. After each class, the learning results potion is handed over to the class, and the paper is also relatively long.

Thinking of Professor Snape's gloomy face, Sheen's heart sank a little. It was not an easy thing to excel in the potion class taught by Professor Snape.

'I can only hope that I can have some talent for potions'

Well, a little bit is good.

Second, Sheen thinks it's Defense Against the Dark Arts class.

It is very dangerous and the teacher component is complex. Two headed folk are rare, but not uncommon.

Not to mention the curse on the position, this year is a stuttering bufoon, next year will be Gilderoy, he would have to wait till year three to get a competent mentor.

Sheen rubbed his eye brows, his eyes became sharper.

Nothing can stop him from learning, and not even lord Noseless!

He had a plan in mind, Sheen would have to think on it.

Below them, considering various factors, the third difficulty should be the herbology class and below them was the transfiguration class thanks to his newfound talent, and the Charms class.

Charms didn't need talent and transfiguration would be easier than expected.

The last echelon should be magic history and astronomy classes, which require memorizing specific knowledge points.

These classes weren't tricky for Sheen, though.

"Transfiguration class and Charms class... I should be good enough now,

Astronomy classes and the history of magic... memorize multiple points and don't need special attention.

The difficulty, then, lies in the Potions, Defense Against the Dark Arts, and Herbology classes."

The goal was set, and just as Sheen was thinking about how to execute it,

There was a sudden buzz of noise outside the box.

From time to time, you can hear words like "Harry", "Harry Potter", and "O Merlin".

Immediately afterwards, a loud noise was heard.

Sheen slowly raised her head, eyes narrowed a little annoyed that once again collided with Justin and Hermione's eyes.

Justin quickly looked down before speaking as if nothing had happened:

"Sheen, look, it's the floating spell, it's amazing! "

Sheen followed his gaze and saw a feather floating in the air above Hermione's wand.

The little girl raised her face:

"Actually, it's simple really. I learned it in Standard Spells: Beginner. It's not very difficult. I learned it after practicing it a few times. "

Her voice carries a touch of pride. The kind of insufferable snark that gets some nerds into view of bullies. 'Ah there's the Hermione i remember'

Sheen's face was a deadpan. He remembered practicing it five hundred times already, it was not easy...

"Justin, you could try it too. It's just a little magic. "Standard Spells: Beginners" says it's often one of the first magics learned by little wizards. "

Hermione looked at Justin who was yet to catch the condescension in her voice 'could try it' as though she was completely sure he wouldn't be able to do it. Justin simple bristled in excitement, he was eager to try, and spoke seriously.

  "You can guide me."

Justin didn't shove off, waving his wand with a little yearning.

  "Wingardium Leviosa! "

  The feather didn't move,

"You have to shake your wrist."

  Hermione, always quick to correct.

  "Wingardium Leviosa! "

  The feathers swayed slightly,

"You are wrong again! You have to speak firmly, and if you hesitate, you will fail!"

Hermione's guidance was somewhat harsh, but Justin was earnest in his want to make it float:

  "Wingardium Leviosa! "

  ...

"Success! Hermione, you are a great teacher!"

Justin had finally succeeded and he looked very excited, sincerely thanking her:

  "You're right, it isn't that difficult! "
