Chapter 20: The Devil's Song

Kageyama scrambled through the station halls, clutching the Lullaby flute like a holy relic. He burst out of the main entrance and into the town square, gasping for breath. Behind him, the Wind Wall, its master defeated, sputtered and died with a final, mournful sigh.

The way was now clear. Erza, Gray, and Lucy, having just broken through, saw the scene unfold.

"Kageyama, stop!" Erza commanded, her voice ringing with authority.

They cornered him in the center of the square. The townspeople, drawn by the commotion, began to gather at a distance, their faces etched with confusion and concern.

"Don't come near me!" Kageyama screamed, his eyes wild. He held the flute to his lips. "I've been a pawn my whole life! Used by Eisenwald, used by you! This flute... this power... it's my turn! I'll finally be the one in control!"

"That thing won't give you control! It will only bring death!" Lucy pleaded.

As he hesitated, a calm, powerful voice echoed from the station entrance. "Is that truly what you think power is, my boy?"

Guild Master Makarov stood there, flanked by the other guild masters who had come to investigate. He looked at Kageyama not with anger, but with a deep, profound sadness.

"To take lives is not strength," Makarov continued. "Strength is the will to protect them. The power you seek in that cursed flute is hollow and empty. It will leave you with nothing but silence."

Kageyama's resolve began to crumble. The flute trembled in his hands. He looked at the faces of Team Natsu, at the disappointed eyes of the old master, and the truth of the words washed over him. He was chasing a phantom.

But the flute had other ideas.

It had tasted his ambition, his desperation. It felt the presence of hundreds of souls in the square. A low, sinister hum began to emanate from the skull's three eyes, a deep purple light pulsing within them.

"It's... activating on its own!" Kageyama shrieked, trying to drop it, but the flute seemed stuck to his hands.

Dark purple smoke poured from the flute, enveloping him. The object grew, twisted, and reformed with sickening cracks and snaps. In seconds, it was no longer a flute. It was a colossal wooden demon, towering over the station, its three eyes glowing with malevolent energy. Kageyama fell to the ground, unconscious, as the monster let out a deafening roar that shook the entire town.

Lullaby was free.

The demon opened its massive mouth, and a low, soul-chilling melody began to form—the first notes of its death song.

This is it. No more holding back. No more observing. I am a part of this team, and it's time I acted like it.

"Everyone!" I projected, my voice ringing not just in their ears, but directly in their minds. "GET READY!"

I rose into the air, my body glowing with an intense, overwhelming pink aura. This wasn't a subtle nudge or a small boost. This was me, opening the floodgates.

"FEEL MY POWER!"

I unleashed waves of psychic energy that washed over my team. Natsu, already burning with fighting spirit, roared as the pink energy merged with his fire. His flames exploded to twice their size, tinged with a vibrant magenta hue. He could feel it—his fire wasn't just hotter, it was more solid, more focused.

Gray slammed his fists together, and the ice that formed around him was no longer just white and blue. It was crystalline, almost translucent, with a faint pink light glowing at its core. It was colder and denser than any ice he had ever made.

Erza, standing firm, felt the energy surge through her. "REQUIP: HEAVEN'S WHEEL ARMOR!" Her transformation was instantaneous, faster than ever before. The dozens of swords that appeared behind her shimmered, each one coated in a visible layer of telekinetic force, making them sharper, faster, and deadlier.

Lucy felt the energy flow into her, but also connect her. She could feel the thoughts and intentions of her teammates, and more importantly, she could feel me.

The demon Lullaby ignored us, its song building towards its deadly crescendo.

"Let's shut him up!" Natsu bellowed, his voice booming with newfound power.

"For Fairy Tail!" Erza commanded, her voice ringing with absolute certainty.

This was not the same team that had entered the station. This was something new. Something more. Boosted by my power, they launched their first, unified assault. The retelling was over. A new story was being written in fire, ice, and steel.
