Chapter 10 - Chapter 10:The First Hunt

The forest grew denser the deeper Lin Chen advanced.

Light filtered through layers of overlapping branches, fractured into shifting patterns that danced across the ground. The air was thick, heavy with the presence of life—and something more dangerous hidden beneath it.

This was no ordinary forest.

It was a hunting ground.

And everyone inside it knew the same thing.

Resources were limited.

Opportunities were limited.

Which meant—

Competition was inevitable.

Lin Chen moved silently between the trees, his footsteps light, controlled, leaving almost no trace behind. His senses remained fully alert, scanning not only for beasts, but for something far more dangerous.

Other disciples.

The earlier encounter with the beast had already confirmed something important.

Everything here could provide value.

But compared to beasts—

Cultivators were far more rewarding.

That thought did not disturb him.

It did not excite him either.

It simply… made sense.

In this world, strength determined everything.

And strength required resources.

A faint sound reached his ears.

Voices.

Low.

Not far ahead.

Lin Chen slowed immediately, his presence lowering as he moved closer with careful precision. The sound became clearer as he approached, slipping between the gaps of trees until the scene revealed itself.

Three disciples.

They stood around a small clearing, their attention focused on something at the center.

A plant.

Its leaves shimmered faintly with a soft glow, releasing a subtle energy that even from a distance felt distinct.

A resource.

A valuable one.

Lin Chen didn't step out.

He observed.

The three were tense, their positions uneven, their eyes constantly shifting toward one another. No one reached for the plant.

Because no one trusted the others.

"Enough waiting," one of them finally said.

His voice carried impatience.

"We all saw it at the same time. No point dragging this out."

Another snorted. "And how do you suggest we split it?"

The third remained silent, but his stance shifted slightly.

Closer.

Ready.

The first man's expression hardened. "Simple. Whoever is strongest takes it."

Silence followed.

Then—

Movement.

Fast.

One of them lunged.

The fragile balance shattered instantly.

The clearing erupted into motion as all three moved at once, each trying to gain the advantage before the others could react.

It was chaotic.

Uncoordinated.

Driven by greed.

Lin Chen watched for a brief moment.

Then—

He stepped forward.

No hesitation.

No announcement.

Just action.

His presence entered the clearing without warning.

The timing—

Perfect.

One of the three had just overextended, his attention focused entirely on the other two.

Lin Chen moved.

A single step.

A single strike.

Clean.

Direct.

The impact landed before the man could react, sending him crashing to the ground with a heavy force that knocked the breath out of him instantly.

The other two froze.

Just for a moment.

But that moment—

Was enough.

Lin Chen didn't stop.

He shifted direction immediately, his movements smooth and precise as he closed the distance to the second opponent. The man barely had time to raise his guard before the strike connected.

A dull crack echoed.

The man staggered backward, his balance broken.

Fear appeared in his eyes.

Too fast.

This was too fast.

"Who—?!"

The third one barely managed to speak before Lin Chen was already in front of him.

This time—

There was no wasted motion.

No hesitation.

The strike came straight toward his center.

The man tried to block.

Tried to resist.

But the force behind it overwhelmed him completely.

He was thrown backward, his body hitting the ground hard as the air left his lungs in a sharp gasp.

Silence fell.

Abrupt.

Heavy.

All three were down.

Not dead.

But unable to fight.

Lin Chen stood in the center of the clearing.

Calm.

Unmoved.

As if what had just happened was nothing more than a minor interruption.

His gaze swept across the three briefly.

Assessing.

Then—

He spoke.

"Leave your resources."

No threat.

No raised voice.

But the meaning—

Absolute.

The first to react was the one who had been struck first.

His face pale, his breathing uneven, he hesitated for only a second before reaching into his robe. A small pouch was thrown forward.

The others followed quickly.

No one argued.

No one resisted.

Because they understood.

The gap between them—

Was too large.

Lin Chen collected everything without comment.

Then—

He turned his attention to the plant.

He approached it slowly, crouching down as he examined it briefly. The energy within it was stable, pure—clearly more valuable than anything he had gained so far.

Without hesitation, he plucked it.

The moment it left the ground, the surrounding air seemed to shift slightly, as if something had been taken from the forest itself.

A faint sensation stirred within him again.

The system.

Responding.

Stronger this time.

Clearer.

The accumulation—

Was growing.

Behind him, the three disciples had already begun to retreat, their movements hurried, their earlier greed completely gone.

Lin Chen didn't stop them.

Didn't care.

Because they no longer mattered.

He stood alone in the clearing.

The forest stretched ahead.

Deeper.

Darker.

Filled with more.

His grip on the resource tightened slightly.

Then—

He moved forward again.

Time passed.

The deeper he went, the more frequent the encounters became.

Beasts.

Disciples.

Ambushes.

Conflicts.

Each one ended the same way.

Fast.

Decisive.

Controlled.

Lin Chen did not rush.

He did not hunt recklessly.

But everything he encountered—

Became part of his growth.

At some point—

The forest changed.

The air grew heavier.

The sounds quieter.

Even the light seemed dimmer.

This was a deeper zone.

More dangerous.

More valuable.

And then—

He felt it.

A presence.

Different.

Stronger.

Not hidden.

Not chaotic.

But controlled.

Familiar.

Lin Chen stopped.

Ahead, a figure stood among the trees.

Arms crossed.

Waiting.

Han Wei.

"You took your time," Han Wei said casually, as if they were meeting by coincidence.

But his eyes—

Were sharp.

Focused.

Locked onto Lin Chen.

Lin Chen didn't respond immediately.

He stepped forward slowly.

Measured.

Calm.

"So," Han Wei continued, his tone light but carrying an edge, "you're the one everyone's talking about."

A faint smile appeared.

"But this place…"

He gestured slightly to the surrounding forest.

"Isn't for playing hero."

The air tightened.

Invisible tension forming between them.

Lin Chen finally spoke.

"Then don't play."

Simple.

Direct.

Han Wei's smile widened slightly.

Not friendly.

Not mocking.

But interested.

"Good."

Neither of them moved.

But both knew—

This was different.

Not a skirmish.

Not a clash of opportunity.

This—

Was inevitable.
