Chapter 15 - Changes 2

Something was different.

Not outside.

Inside.

And it didn't take long to notice it.

It started with something small.

A glance.

A random student walking past me in the hallway.

Nothing unusual.

Nothing important.

But for a split second—

I felt something.

Not my emotion.

Not my thought.

Something else.

Faint.

Unclear.

Like trying to hear a whisper in a crowded room.

"…What was that?"

I stopped walking.

Just slightly.

Not enough for anyone to notice.

But enough for me to think.

"…Insight?"

I thought to myself

That had to be it.

The new ability.

The one I just unlocked.

But—

It wasn't stable.

Not clear like the system messages.

More like…

Fragments.

Incomplete.

"…So I can't rely on it yet."

That was fine.

Actually—

That was better.

Because if it worked perfectly from the start—

It wouldn't feel real.

It wouldn't feel earned.

"…Good."

I kept walking.

But this time—

More aware.

More observant.

More… curious.

The classroom felt different today.

Not because it had changed.

But because I had.

Before—

Everything blended together.

Noise.

Faces.

Voices.

All of it—

Background.

Now—

It felt layered.

Separate.

Defined.

I could notice small things.

Who was talking.

Who was pretending to listen.

Who was bored.

Who was watching.

"…Was it always like this?"

This was like my 6 sense like

my own spider sense.

Or was I just—

Finally paying attention?

I sat down.

Took out my notebook.

But my focus wasn't on the lesson.

Not yet.

Because something else caught my attention.

Two guys sitting a few desks ahead.

Talking.

Nothing unusual.

Just normal conversation.

But—

When I looked at them—

That feeling came again.

Faint.

Unstable.

[Amused… Slightly Mocking…]

I blinked.

The sensation vanished.

"…So that's how it works."

Not words.

Not exact thoughts.

Just—

Emotional impressions.

Surface level.

Unclear.

But meaningful.

"…Interesting."

I leaned back slightly.

Testing it again.

Focused on them.

Trying to trigger it.

For a second—

Nothing.

Then—

A flicker.

[Relaxed… Distracted…]

"…Inconsistent."

So it wasn't something I could turn on freely.

At least not yet.

It came—

And went.

On its own.

"…So I need to learn it."

Control it.

Understand it.

That thought stayed with me.

Because this—

This was useful.

Not in an obvious way.

But in a subtle one.

A powerful one.

Then—

My attention shifted.

Without thinking.

Toward her.

Seara.

Same seat.

Same calm presence.

Same quiet energy.

But now—

There was something more.

Not about her.

About how I saw her.

"…Let's try."

I focused.

Not staring.

Just—

Observing.

Waiting.

For that feeling.

For Insight to activate.

A second passed.

Then another.

Nothing.

"…Of course."

I exhaled quietly.

Relaxed my focus.

And then—

It happened.

[Calm… Focused… Aware… Slightly Curious…]

I froze.

Not visibly.

But internally.

"…It worked."

And this time—

It was clearer.

Still not perfect.

But stronger.

More defined.

"…Curious."

About what?

The class?

Something else?

Or—

Me?

That thought stayed longer than expected.

Because if that was true—

Then this ability wasn't just observation.

It was connection.

"…Dangerous."

Not in a bad way.

But in a way that required caution.

Because if I misunderstood—

If I misread—

It could go wrong.

Very wrong.

"…So don't assume."

That was important.

Very important.

The class continued.

But my attention was divided now.

Between the lesson—

And everything else.

Between what I saw—

And what I felt.

Between reality—

And Insight.

Break time came faster than expected.

And this time—

I didn't hesitate at all.

Not even a little.

I stood up.

Walked out.

And looked around.

Not randomly.

Not aimlessly.

But intentionally.

"…Find her."

And there—

Near the same lockers as yesterday.

Seara.

"…Consistent."

That made things easier.

Predictable.

Manageable.

I approached.

Same pace.

Same distance.

Same control.

"…Hey."

She looked up.

And this time—

There was a slight difference.

A small one.

But noticeable.

"…Hey."

Her voice carried something extra.

Not much.

But enough.

Familiarity.

"…Good."

Progress.

Even if small.

I leaned lightly against the locker beside her.

Not too close.

Not too far.

Balanced.

"How's class?"

Simple.

Normal.

She shrugged slightly.

"Same as always."

"…Fair."

A small silence followed.

But this time—

It didn't feel empty.

It felt… comfortable.

"…That's new."

Then—

Insight flickered.

[Calm… Slightly Tired… Comfortable…]

I caught it.

Clearer than before.

"…Comfortable."

That was good.

Right?

"…Maybe."

I decided to test something.

Carefully.

"You seem tired."

The moment the words left my mouth—

I knew.

Something was off.

Not wrong.

But—

Not right either.

She paused.

Just slightly.

Then—

"I'm not."

Flat.

Simple.

But—

Different.

"…Ah."

I misread it.

Or—

Misinterpreted it.

"…Comfortable doesn't mean tired."

Idiot.

I corrected quickly.

"My bad. Just seemed like it."

She looked at me for a second.

Not annoyed.

Not upset.

Just—

Thinking.

Then—

"It's fine."

Short answer.

But neutral again.

Balance restored.

"…Good recovery."

But the lesson stayed.

Clear.

Important.

Insight wasn't truth.

It was information.

And information—

Could be wrong.

"…So don't jump to conclusions."

That mattered.

More than anything else.

The conversation continued.

Light.

Simple.

Normal.

But underneath—

I was learning.

Adjusting.

Improving.

Not just socially—

But mentally.

Strategically.

Then—

Something strange happened.

Mid-conversation—

Insight activated again.

But this time—

Different.

Stronger.

Sharper.

And for a split second—

Too clear.

[Curious… Interested… Careful… Watching…]

I froze.

Because that—

Felt different.

Not just emotion.

Not just impression.

But—

Focused.

Directed.

"…Watching?"

That word stayed.

Because it didn't feel like a general emotion.

It felt—

Specific.

Intentional.

And for a brief moment—

I had a strange thought.

"…Is she observing me?"

Not casually.

Not randomly.

But—

Actively.

That didn't make sense.

Or maybe—

It did.

"…No."

Don't assume.

Not again.

But still—

That feeling didn't fade easily.

She stepped back slightly.

"I have to go."

"…Yeah."

"See you."

"…See you."

She walked away.

Same as before.

Normal.

Natural.

But this time—

Something lingered.

Not in her.

In me.

"…That was different."

Because this time—

Insight didn't just show emotion.

It hinted at intention.

And that—

Changed things.

I stood there for a moment.

Thinking.

Processing.

Analyzing.

"…This ability…"

It wasn't simple.

It wasn't safe.

And it definitely wasn't complete.

But—

It had potential.

A lot of it.

"Yo."

I turned.

Same guy from yesterday.

"…Yeah?"

He looked at me.

Then grinned.

"You're doing it again."

"…Doing what?"

"Talking like it's normal."

He shook his head.

"Man, you changed fast."

"…Did I?"

"Yeah."

No hesitation.

No doubt.

Then—

He added—

"But don't get weird with it."

…What?

"What do you mean?"

He shrugged.

"Just saying."

"Some people change and start acting different."

A pause.

Then—

"You're still normal."

"…So stay that way."

That hit.

Unexpectedly.

"…Normal."

That word again.

But this time—

It felt different.

Not something I lacked.

Something I was gaining.

"…I see."

"Anyway," he added, turning away, "see you around."

"…Yeah."

And just like that—

He left.

Again.

Simple.

Casual.

But meaningful.

I stood there.

Alone.

But not the same as before.

Because now—

There was clarity.

Not complete.

Not perfect.

But growing.

Insight.

Change.

Perception.

All of it—

Connecting.

Building.

Forming something bigger.

And for the first time—

I had a clear thought.

Not uncertain.

Not hesitant.

But solid.

"I'm improving."

Not dramatically.

Not instantly.

But steadily.

And that—

Was enough.

But deep down—

A quieter thought followed.

One I couldn't fully understand yet.

If Insight could read others…

Then what happens—

When it starts reading something it shouldn't?
