Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: The Sovereign’s Wrath

The grand ballroom of the Soren estate was a blur of gold leaf and judgmental whispers, but for Mika, the air was thinning. Soren had disappeared into a private cigar lounge with the Council elders, leaving Mika at the mercy of the "Vipers."

"You look like a doll dressed in someone else's skin," Soren's mother, the Matriarch, hissed as she cornered Mika near the balcony. Her eyes were like flint. "Viktor was a statesman. You are a debt. Don't think for a second that because Soren marks you in the dark, you have a seat at this table."

Mika's breath hitched. He felt small—smaller than he ever had in the slums. But before he could retreat, a warm, familiar hand slid onto the small of his back.

The Sinful Reunion

"The Lady Soren always did have a tongue like a serrated blade," a smooth, melodic voice interrupted.

Mika turned, his heart hammering against his ribs. Liam. His childhood sweetheart looked dashing in a midnight-blue suit, a far cry from the ragged boy Mika used to share stolen bread with.

"Liam... you shouldn't be here," Mika whispered, his violet eyes darting toward the cigar lounge doors. "Soren will kill you."

"Let him try," Liam smiled, a sinful, dangerous glint in his eyes. He leaned in, his lips inches from Mika's ear, purposely ignoring the Matriarch. "I've spent three years building a fortune just to buy you back from the gutter, Mika. I didn't expect to find you wearing another man's diamonds. Come to the gardens. One dance for old time's sake... or I'll tell the whole room exactly how you used to taste before the Soren 'monster' found you."

The Predator's Shadow

Mika didn't have to look up to know he was in trouble. The temperature in the room dropped ten degrees. The "sweet-spice" scent of Dark Bourbon and Ozone didn't just fill the room; it crushed it.

Soren stood in the doorway of the lounge. His pupils were so blown they had swallowed the amber of his irises. He didn't say a word to Liam. He didn't even acknowledge his mother.

He walked straight to Mika, his heavy hand wrapping around Mika's throat—not to choke, but to claim.

"Liam, was it?" Soren's voice was a low, guttural vibration that made the champagne glasses on the nearby tables crack. "I've heard of you. The little puppy who couldn't protect his own. If you touch what is mine again, I won't just kill you. I'll make sure everyone you've ever loved forgets you ever existed."

The Spicy "Gala" Punishment

Soren didn't wait for a reply. He dragged Mika out of the ballroom, his grip iron-tight. He didn't take him to the master suite; he dragged him into the Ancestral Library, a room filled with the history of the Soren Alphas.

He slammed the door and locked it, the sound echoing like a death knell.

"You let him touch you," Soren roared, slamming Mika against the heavy oak bookshelves. Ancient books fell to the floor, but Soren didn't care. "In my own house! Under my mother's eyes! You let that sinful little ghost put his hands on your skin!"

"Soren, please! He meant nothing—"

"He means everything because he thinks he has a claim on your past!" Soren's hands were frantic, tearing at the diamonds around Mika's neck and the silk of his gala shirt. "But I own your present. And I own your future."

The love-making was the longest and most detailed yet. It was fueled by pure, unadulterated territorial rage. Soren claimed Mika right there against the shelves, his hands marking Mika's thighs with bruises that would last for weeks. The "spiciness" was a dark, overwhelming fever—a detailed account of Soren's obsession. He forced Mika to look at himself in the tall library mirrors, showing him exactly how he looked under an Alpha's true claim.

"Say it," Soren groaned, his thrusts deep and punishing, his teeth sinking into the mark on Mika's neck until the metallic taste of blood filled the air. "Say you belong to the monster."

"I... I am yours," Mika sobbed, his back arching, his fingers tangling in Soren's hair as his body betrayed his heart yet again. The surrender was total. The "paycheck wife" was gone—there was only the Alpha's prize, broken and beautiful in the dark.
