Chapter 5 - STUCK BETWEEN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE

The eerie darkness never gave away as Rezel sat there all night long.

The only thing that ever gave him company was the voices that strung about in his head speaking to him from time to time.

Rezel although still felt confused.

Not about how he was treated as he came to this local village, not even how he managed to dodge all the strikes of the blade that were swung at him even stunning the properly dressed emperor.

What confused Rezel was what he supposedly began to feel as he held onto his finger tips.

Sharp pains frequently appeared whenever he kept his skin onto his fingertips.

It felt unnatural.

His nails seemed to have grown incredibly large that they were even capable to pierce through a human skin effortlessly.

Rezel fell into a state of worry.

He couldn't see his hands, but he could feel a form of hard ligaments extending beyond control.

He changed his posture as he now laid on the concrete floor staring at the utter darkness.

He was changing, even he could sense it.

Transforming into a being he couldn't control.

Quickly bit surely.

Sometimes transformations don't only happen outside, but inside too.

This sudden new found extraordinary abilities that he enhanced would only be the work of this transformation.

A renowned scientist such as himself still couldn't crack solve the case.

-------

Just like a black out, his mind zoned out.

The symbiote all he could remember.

He easily observed that these changes had to be entertained from staring at that lump of matter every night without answers.

The headaches and pains weren't worth it either way.

He solved the antidote but failed the rest of his mission.

This ideology to try to improve a motive that was failed years ago alone made him to discover the truth.

"Well that was foolish of me", Rezel stammered still staring at the ceiling conceiled in darkness.

No voices this time, the silence finally gave into him.

Clank

The creek finally brought a bit of light into the blank hut, the door hung slimly on the hinges.

Rezel shielded his eyes, the scenery of light was great, no matter how little it was or seemed to be.

The man who was assigned to cater for him wore a dark brown robe with scratch and torn marks surrounding it.

It didn't look anything fancy compared to what he witnessed the emperor and empress were as they strolled along.

The man himself seemed a bit frightened of the dark and confined hut with no furniture or any means to be comfortable.

He threw the handful of droppings he held with him and the bottle of lake water and as he usually did, the door was shut in an instant.

Rezel breath heavily and looked below him estimating where he believed the food would have landed.

He picked up about a table spoon of droppings and ate it slowly.

He had grown to know that droppings was the casual meal occasionally eaten by most people of the village possibly with the exception of the emperor and empress.

He ate it casually, not trying to rush the disgusting meal he held in his black and dirty palms.

As he ate slowly, his brows lowered nearly to the point that touched.

His glamorous life ruined because he wanted to supposedly get rid of all human deficiencies.

Rezel gritted his teeth.

"The symbiote made me this way... It made me lose everything", a drop of tears slowly strode to the ground.

"I should have listened to Fred", the next words then smoothly rushed out of the dry mouth of Rezel.

The only true friend he ever had.

He told him of his plan to solve human deficiencies and properly invent the evolution of humans.

Fred disputed the decision.

Argued against it.

"Not the best plan.

Don't let the ego get to your head.

Think this through".

Rezel would chuckle back then and turn a deaf ear.

Now--he realises that he should have listened.

The advises and the journeys he got through before getting to this point.

He played it ignorant, never truly thought thing true.

He isolated himself tentailing that he got tired of humanity questions.

Still went in with his idea.

He successed in finding an antidote but anything further than that was history.

Changes in his mind that hid before getting discovered.

He paid no attention to it.

Until the day he killed Winston.

From that point on everything else was a one in a million.

Nothing done for certain, even found it difficult to cope within the constraints of this village.

Now, he wasn't certain whether Fred was still living.

He lost connections with him a long time ago.

Ever since a derailing argument threw them apart.

He was now lost facing challenges and changes he has no idea about.

An argument just outside the hut made Rezel to snap out of his daze.

Through a crack in the walls of the hut, he was able to notice two women shouting at each other from within his ear's reach.

His eyes widened once he caught sight of the beauty that was just outside his hut.

A mistress with elegance looks capable of sweeping any man off their feet.

Her blue pupils went well with her light and delicate skin and her dark brown hair helped hold the whole piece together.

She wore sandals and constantly screamed at another woman that stood just beside her.

Rezel's heart skipped a beat.

This beautiful mistress in front of him was the perfect key to put his plan into motion.

An escape plan that could only be made possible if he had a special compratriote.

He watched as he carefully observed the boldness and courage of this woman.

Her elegant stature would make his plan to escape go even smoother.

Rezel may have lost everything but there was no time to think about it now.

A plan was brewing in the mind of Rezel as he still stared out of the window.

He had never experienced anything called love since he became a scientist.

His entire future focused on making discoveries and solving great world problems.

It earned him a few awards and prices here and there, but lost him that missing piece of his life that still held him dearly till that very hour.

"It is not too late to make things right", he then said as a smile forced his way unto his face.

His eye of view was shifted as the seiled door slammed opened again.

"The emperor requests to see you.

He is not happy".
