Chapter 21 - protective side

The morning at Royal Blue Villa looked ordinary.

Sunlight streamed through the tall glass windows, spreading a soft golden glow across the marble floors. The calmness of the house felt almost deceptive—like nothing had changed.

But beneath that calm—

Something had shifted.

---

Lakshmi walked slowly through the corridor, her fingers lightly gripping the edge of her notebook. Her mind wasn't on studies today.

It was on yesterday.

On Dhruv.

On Damodar.

On the strange tension she didn't understand.

She stopped near the staircase, taking a small breath.

"Why am I even thinking about all this…" she whispered to herself.

But before she could move—

"Thinking about what?"

She froze.

Then turned slowly.

Dhruv stood a few steps behind her, hands in his pockets, watching her with that familiar half-smirk.

"You have a habit of appearing suddenly," she said.

"And you have a habit of getting lost in thoughts."

"I'm not."

"You are."

"I'm not!"

"You are."

Lakshmi sighed. "Can you not argue for one minute?"

Dhruv walked closer.

"No."

"Of course."

---

For a moment, they stood in silence.

Then Lakshmi spoke, a little more seriously this time.

"…Why did you come yesterday?"

Dhruv raised an eyebrow. "Where?"

"You know where."

He did.

But he still asked, "Say it properly."

Lakshmi looked slightly annoyed.

"When I was with Damodar."

Dhruv's expression changed instantly.

The teasing faded.

His eyes sharpened.

"Oh," he said quietly.

"So you noticed."

Lakshmi frowned. "Of course I noticed. You came like—like you were angry."

"I wasn't angry."

"You were."

"I wasn't."

"You were!"

"Okay, maybe a little."

She crossed her arms. "Why?"

Dhruv didn't answer immediately.

Because the real answer—

Was too direct.

Instead, he said casually, "Because I don't like him."

"That's not a reason."

"It is."

"No, it's not."

"It is for me."

Lakshmi shook her head. "You judge people too quickly."

"And you trust people too easily."

She paused.

That hit.

"I don't," she said quietly.

"You do," Dhruv replied. "At least with him."

Lakshmi looked away.

Because she wasn't sure anymore.

---

"Listen," Dhruv continued, his tone softer now, "if he talks to you again… don't stay alone."

Lakshmi turned back immediately.

"Why?"

"Just don't."

"That's not an answer."

"It is."

"No, it's not! Tell me properly."

Dhruv stepped closer.

This time—

Serious.

"Because I said so."

Lakshmi blinked.

"That's not fair."

"I'm not trying to be fair."

"I don't like this tone."

"I don't like him."

Silence.

Their eyes locked.

And for once—

Lakshmi didn't argue immediately.

"…You're overreacting," she said softly.

"Maybe," Dhruv replied.

"But still don't do it."

---

From the balcony above—

Rudra watched everything.

Silent.

Observing.

Analyzing.

His gaze shifted slightly—

Toward the corner of the corridor.

Where Damodar stood.

Half-hidden.

Watching them.

---

Rudra's expression hardened slightly.

So.

It had started.

---

Downstairs, in the living area—

Monika arranged some flowers in a vase, trying to keep herself busy.

But her mind wandered again.

To Rudra.

To last night.

To the silence that felt too meaningful.

"You're thinking again."

She turned.

Rudra.

Standing behind her.

Close.

As always.

"You always appear when I'm thinking," she said.

"And you always think when I'm around."

"That's not true."

"It is."

She smiled slightly.

Then looked away.

"…Maybe."

Rudra stepped closer, standing beside her now.

"What are you thinking about?" he asked.

Monika hesitated.

Then said quietly—

"You."

Rudra didn't react outwardly.

But inside—

Something shifted.

"Good or bad?" he asked.

Monika looked at him.

"Confusing."

Rudra almost smiled.

"That's better than nothing."

"It's worse."

"Why?"

"Because I don't understand it."

"You don't need to."

"I do."

"No."

She frowned. "You always avoid answers."

"And you always want them."

"Yes."

"Then we're different."

"Maybe that's the problem."

Rudra looked at her.

"Or maybe that's the reason."

---

Back near the staircase—

The tension hadn't fully disappeared.

Lakshmi turned to leave.

"I have class," she said.

Dhruv caught her wrist lightly.

"Wait."

She stopped.

Again.

"Now what?"

"Just… be careful."

Lakshmi looked at him.

For a second—

She saw something she hadn't noticed before.

Not teasing.

Not playfulness.

But—

Concern.

Real.

"…Okay," she said softly.

Dhruv released her wrist.

But his gaze didn't leave her.

"Good."

---

As Lakshmi walked away—

Damodar stepped forward.

"Well," he said casually, "that was interesting."

Dhruv turned.

His expression instantly cold.

"What do you want?"

Damodar smiled slightly. "Just talking."

"Then talk somewhere else."

"This is a free house, isn't it?"

Dhruv stepped closer.

"Not for you."

The air changed.

Sharp.

Tense.

---

Damodar tilted his head. "You don't like me."

"Very smart."

"And yet you pretend it's casual."

"I'm not pretending."

"Then what is this?"

Dhruv smiled.

But it wasn't friendly.

"A warning."

---

Damodar's eyes narrowed slightly.

"For what?"

Dhruv leaned just a little closer.

"For staying in your limits."

Silence.

Heavy.

---

Damodar chuckled softly.

"You think you can control everything?"

"No," Dhruv replied calmly.

"But I can control who gets close to people I care about."

That line—

Was clear.

Direct.

No room for misunderstanding.

---

Damodar's smile faded slightly.

"Careful," he said quietly.

"Attachment makes people weak."

Dhruv didn't react.

"Not always," he said.

"Sometimes it makes them dangerous."

---

From above—

Rudra watched.

And this time—

He didn't interfere.

Because Dhruv—

Was handling it.

---

Damodar stepped back slightly.

"Let's see," he said softly.

Then turned—

And walked away.

---

The moment he left—

The tension didn't disappear.

It settled.

Deeper.

Stronger.

---

Dhruv exhaled slowly.

Running a hand through his hair.

"…This is going to be annoying," he muttered.

---

From the balcony—

Rudra spoke quietly.

"Handle it carefully."

Dhruv looked up.

Their eyes met.

Understanding passed between them.

No explanation needed.

---

"Always," Dhruv replied.

---

Inside the villa—

Monika stood alone again.

But this time—

She wasn't confused.

She was aware.

Of everything changing around her.

And inside her.

---

Because slowly—

Very slowly—

Royal Blue Villa was no longer just a home.

It was becoming—

A battlefield of emotions.

Of relationships.

Of hidden intentions.

And this—

Was only the beginning.
