Chapter 20 - chapter 20

The night at Royal Blue Villa looked calm from the outside.

Lights dimmed.

Curtains swayed softly with the breeze.

Everything felt peaceful.

But inside—

No one was truly at rest.

---

Lakshmi lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling.

Her book was open beside her.

Unread.

Her mind replayed the entire day again and again.

Dhruv's words.

His expressions.

The way he said things so casually… yet they stayed.

"I don't say things easily."

"I notice everything."

"Because you're here."

She turned to her side, hugging her pillow slightly.

"Why does he talk like that…" she whispered.

And more importantly—

Why did it matter so much?

She shut her eyes tightly.

Trying to sleep.

Trying to forget.

But instead—

She remembered the way he looked at her.

And her heart refused to calm down.

---

At the same time, in another room—

Dhruv wasn't asleep either.

He lay on his back, staring at the ceiling, one arm resting behind his head.

A faint smirk played on his lips.

"Complicated…" he muttered.

But his eyes softened slightly.

Because for once—

He wasn't thinking about teasing.

He was thinking about her silence.

Her hesitation.

The way she didn't walk away completely.

"She doesn't even realize…" he said quietly.

And somehow—

That made everything more interesting.

---

Across the villa, Monika stood near the window again.

The bracelet still on her wrist.

Her fingers gently tracing its curve.

Her thoughts weren't confused anymore.

They were… clearer.

And that clarity scared her more.

Rudra wasn't just someone from her past anymore.

He wasn't just a responsibility.

He wasn't just a deal.

He was becoming—

She stopped herself again.

"…No," she whispered.

But her heart didn't agree.

---

Rudra stood in his study room, looking at nothing in particular.

Files lay open in front of him.

Unsigned.

Ignored.

His mind wasn't on work.

It was on her.

On her words.

On her answers.

On the way she didn't step back.

Rudra rarely lost control.

But this—

This was different.

And he knew it.

---

From the shadows of the corridor—

Damodar watched the dimly lit villa.

Silent.

Observing.

Understanding.

"Everyone is distracted," he murmured.

"Perfect time."

---

The next morning began differently.

Not chaotic.

But not normal either.

There was an invisible tension in the air.

Something waiting to happen.

---

Lakshmi walked into the garden area with her book, hoping for some peace.

Fresh air.

Silence.

Focus.

She sat down on the bench, opening her book.

And for a moment—

It worked.

She actually started reading.

Until—

"Studying again?"

She closed her eyes.

"…Go away."

"No."

She looked up.

Dhruv.

Of course.

"Why are you here?"

"Morning walk."

"You don't wake up early."

"I did today."

"Why?"

He shrugged. "Felt like it."

"That's not convincing."

"It's true."

She sighed. "You're lying."

"I am," he admitted easily.

Lakshmi blinked. "Then why say it?"

"Because you asked."

"That's not how answers work!"

"It is for me."

She shook her head. "You're impossible."

"And you're still talking to me."

"I won't."

"You will."

"I won't!"

"You just did."

Lakshmi looked away, frustrated.

But not fully.

Because somewhere—

She expected this.

---

Dhruv sat beside her.

Closer than necessary.

Lakshmi noticed.

But didn't move.

That was new.

"What are you studying?" he asked.

"Math."

"Oh."

"What?"

"Boring."

"It's not boring."

"It is."

"It's not!"

"It is."

"Then don't sit here."

"I'm not here for math."

Lakshmi froze for a second.

"…Then?"

Dhruv leaned slightly closer.

"For you."

Her heartbeat quickened again.

"Stop saying things like that," she whispered.

"Why?"

"Because… you don't mean them seriously."

Dhruv's expression changed slightly.

"Who said that?"

"You act like everything is a joke."

"Not everything."

"This is."

"It's not."

She finally looked at him.

And this time—

She saw it.

He wasn't joking.

Not completely.

"…Then why don't you say it properly?" she asked softly.

Dhruv leaned back slightly, looking at her.

"Because if I say it properly… you'll run."

Lakshmi's breath caught.

"I won't."

"You will."

"I won't!"

"You will."

"I said I won't!"

Dhruv smiled faintly.

"See?"

"What?"

"You're already getting defensive."

Lakshmi turned away.

Because again—

He was right.

---

Meanwhile, inside the villa—

Monika was arranging things in the dining area when Rudra walked in.

Their eyes met.

And something shifted immediately.

Not awkward.

Not forced.

Just… aware.

"You're early again," she said.

"So are you."

"That's different."

He almost smiled.

She noticed.

"You're smiling more," she said.

"You're noticing more," he replied.

She paused.

"…Maybe."

Rudra stepped closer.

"Is that a problem?"

Monika shook her head slowly.

"No."

Silence.

Then—

"You didn't sleep properly," he said.

She looked at him, surprised. "How do you know?"

"You look tired."

"That's not an answer."

"It is."

She crossed her arms. "You notice too much."

"You said you don't like silence."

"That doesn't mean you analyze everything."

"It helps."

"With what?"

"With understanding you."

Her heart skipped slightly.

"Do you?" she asked.

Rudra didn't answer immediately.

But his gaze—

Said enough.

---

Outside—

Dhruv suddenly stood up.

Lakshmi looked at him. "Where are you going?"

"Somewhere."

"That's not an answer."

"You hate those, right?"

"Yes!"

"Then deal with it."

She frowned. "You're doing this on purpose."

"Yes."

"Why?"

He leaned slightly closer again.

"Because you react."

She pushed him lightly. "Go away."

He didn't move immediately.

Instead, he looked at her one last time.

"…Don't overthink too much," he said.

"I don't."

"You do."

"I don't!"

"You do."

"I don't!"

He smiled.

Then finally walked away.

Leaving her—

More restless than before.

---

From a distance—

Damodar watched Dhruv leave.

And Lakshmi stay.

Alone.

Thinking.

A slow plan began forming.

"Let's test something," he whispered.

---

Later that day—

Everything changed.

---

Lakshmi was walking back inside when Damodar stopped her.

"Lakshmi."

She paused.

Turned.

"Yes?"

"I needed help with something," he said politely.

She hesitated.

"What?"

"Just a small thing," he replied. "Can you come for a minute?"

She wasn't comfortable.

But she nodded slightly.

"Okay."

---

From upstairs—

Dhruv saw them.

And something in his expression changed instantly.

The playfulness disappeared.

His eyes sharpened.

"Why is he talking to her…" he muttered.

And without thinking—

He moved.

Fast.

---

Inside the corridor—

Lakshmi stood slightly uncomfortable as Damodar spoke.

"You study a lot, right?" he asked.

"Yes."

"That's good," he said. "Not like some people."

Lakshmi frowned slightly.

"I don't understand."

"I mean Dhruv," Damodar said casually.

"He wastes time."

Lakshmi's expression changed immediately.

"That's not true."

Damodar noticed.

"Oh?"

"He's not like that," she said.

"Really?" he smirked slightly. "Then what is he like?"

Lakshmi didn't answer immediately.

Because she didn't know how to explain it.

"He just… acts like that," she said finally.

"But he's not careless."

Damodar's eyes narrowed slightly.

"Interesting."

Just then—

Dhruv stepped in.

"Very interesting," he said.

Lakshmi turned.

Relief flashed in her eyes.

Dhruv noticed.

And that was enough.

---

"Anything important?" Dhruv asked, his tone calm but sharp.

Damodar smiled. "Just talking."

"With her?" Dhruv stepped closer.

"Yes."

"Why?"

"Is that a problem?"

Dhruv tilted his head slightly.

"Depends."

"On what?"

"On your intention."

The air changed instantly.

Lakshmi looked between them.

Confused.

Tense.

Damodar chuckled lightly. "You're overthinking."

Dhruv smiled.

But it didn't reach his eyes.

"I don't think so."

---

Rudra, standing at a distance—

Watched everything.

Silent.

Observing.

Understanding.

---

And just like that—

The calm of Royal Blue
