CHAPTER TEN: THE GIRL WHO BROKE THE MOON
The ground split open.
Light poured out from beneath Lyra's feet—blinding, violent, unnatural. It wasn't just light.
It was energy.
Ancient.
Hungry.
Awake.
"LYRA!"
Kael's voice tore through the chaos as he lunged forward—but the force pushed him back instantly, like an invisible wall rejecting him.
"Don't touch her!" Selene shouted.
Too late.
Kael hit the barrier again, harder this time.
The air cracked on impact.
Pain shot through his body—but he didn't stop.
"I'm not leaving her!" he growled.
Behind him, the pack scattered, some dropping to their knees under the pressure, others retreating entirely.
Even Darius staggered back, his expression no longer filled with certainty—
But something else.
Fear.
"What is she doing?" one of the wolves whispered.
Selene's face had gone pale.
"She's not stopping it…" she said.
The light intensified.
Lyra's body lifted slowly off the ground, suspended in the center of the裂.
Her head tilted back, her arms slightly spread—
Like she wasn't resisting anymore.
Like she was accepting it.
"Lyra, fight it!" Kael shouted.
But she didn't respond.
Her eyes—
Fully silver now.
Not flickering.
Not breaking.
Complete.
And then—
She spoke.
"I remember."
The words echoed—not just in the clearing, but inside every mind present.
Images followed.
Not seen.
Felt.
War.
Fire.
Wolves turning on each other.
A sky split by silver light—
And at the center of it all…
Her.
Kael dropped to one knee, his head pounding as the visions forced themselves into him.
"Stop—!" he growled.
But Lyra continued.
"I was never meant to live," she said calmly.
The ground trembled harder.
"I was made to end it."
Selene closed her eyes briefly.
"Yes…" she whispered. "She's reached it."
"Reached what?!" Kael snapped.
Selene looked at him.
"The truth."
Lyra's body began to change.
Not like a wolf.
Not like anything they understood.
Her veins glowed faintly beneath her skin.
Silver.
Cracking outward from the mark on her chest.
Her voice deepened—layered again, but stronger now.
"They feared what we became," she said.
Kael's head snapped up.
We.
"Who is 'we'?" he demanded.
Lyra's lips curved slightly.
"The first ones."
A pulse of energy exploded outward.
Kael was thrown back this time, his body slamming hard into the ground.
The barrier shattered—
But not because it weakened.
Because it expanded.
Consuming everything.
Darius dropped to his knees, struggling to breathe.
"This wasn't supposed to happen like this…" he muttered.
Selene turned sharply toward him.
"No," she said. "It wasn't."
Her eyes narrowed.
"You pushed her too fast."
Darius clenched his jaw.
"She was already waking up!"
"And now she's remembering everything!" Selene snapped.
Kael pushed himself up, ignoring the pain ripping through him.
"Someone explain what's happening!" he roared.
No one answered him.
Because no one could stop it now.
Lyra gasped suddenly.
Her body jerked violently in the air.
"Kael…"
Her voice broke through.
Hers.
For a second—
Just a second.
Kael froze.
"I'm here," he said immediately. "I'm here, Lyra!"
Her eyes flickered.
Silver cracking—
Just slightly.
"I can't stop it…" she whispered.
The vulnerability in her voice hit harder than anything else.
"Then don't," Kael said.
Selene turned sharply.
"Are you insane?!" she hissed.
Kael didn't look at her.
His gaze was locked on Lyra.
"You said she was created to reset everything," he said.
Selene went still.
"Yes."
Kael's voice dropped.
"Then what if she chooses not to?"
Silence.
Because that—
Had never been considered.
Lyra's breathing hitched.
"Choice…" she whispered.
The word echoed inside her.
Foreign.
Unfamiliar.
Because every memory—
Every life—
Every ending—
She had never chosen.
She had only followed.
The Moon.
The pull.
The inevitable.
But now—
Kael stepped forward again.
Slow.
Careful.
"You're not a weapon," he said.
The energy surged again—
But weaker.
"You're not a curse."
Another flicker.
"You're Lyra."
Her name.
Simple.
Human.
Hers.
The silver in her eyes trembled.
"I don't know who that is anymore…" she whispered.
Kael stopped just at the edge of the light.
"Then figure it out," he said.
His voice softened.
"But don't let it decide for you."
The words sank deep.
Deeper than the power.
Deeper than the memories.
Lyra screamed.
But this time—
Not in pain.
In defiance.
The light shattered.
Violently.
Exploding outward in a wave that knocked everyone to the ground.
Silence followed.
Heavy.
Empty.
The crack in the earth sealed slowly.
The glow faded.
And Lyra—
Fell.
Kael moved instantly.
Catching her before she hit the ground.
Her body was cold.
Still.
"Lyra…" he whispered.
No response.
For a moment—
The world held its breath.
Then—
She inhaled sharply.
Alive.
Her eyes opened slowly.
Not silver.
Not glowing.
Brown.
Completely human.
Kael froze.
Selene stepped closer, her expression unreadable.
"That's not possible…" she murmured.
Darius stared.
Confused.
Suspicious.
"What did she do?" he asked.
Lyra blinked slowly, her gaze unfocused.
Then—
She looked up at Kael.
At his face.
At the way he held her.
And frowned.
"…Who are you?" she whispered.
Silence crashed over the clearing.
Kael's heart stopped.
"No…" he breathed.
But Lyra only stared at him—
Like she had never seen him before.
Like everything they had just been through—
Never happened.
