Chapter 40 – The Baby Shower

The week leading up to Nadia Sofia's baby shower was a flurry of joyful activity. Adrian's mother, with her boundless energy and impeccable taste, orchestrated every detail, ensuring the "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" theme shone through in every aspect. Our apartment, already imbued with warmth, now felt like a hive of sweet anticipation, filled with tiny gifts arriving daily and the delightful scent of baked goods.

On Thursday morning, Adrian woke me with a gentle kiss, his eyes sparkling. "Good morning, my love. Just one more day until Nadia Sofia's big celebration."

"I know," I whispered, a nervous flutter in my stomach. It was a happy nervousness, a testament to how truly loved and cherished our little girl already was. My belly was now quite prominent, a constant reminder of the precious life growing within.

After breakfast, Adrian kissed my forehead, then my stomach. "I'm heading to work, but I'll be home early. My mom wants to do a final run-through of everything tonight." He winked. "I think she's more excited than all of us combined." He left at 7 a.m.

I spent the morning meticulously organizing the last of the baby clothes, folding tiny onesies and stacking delicate blankets in Nadia Sofia's already-perfect nursery. The thought of all the love that would soon fill these items at the shower warmed my heart.

At 4 p.m., Mrs. Cole texted: *Layla is practically bouncing off the walls! She has her princess dress all laid out for tomorrow.* I smiled, picturing our enthusiastic flower girl. I replied: *Tell her I can't wait to see her in it!*

At 8 p.m., Adrian came home, a large bouquet of flowers in hand. He hugged me, then dropped to his knees, pressing a kiss to my growing belly. "Hello, Nadia Sofia. Papa brought flowers for Mama and you."

I laughed, accepting the beautiful arrangement. "You spoil us."

"Only the best for my girls," he said, standing up. "My mom is on her way. She has a spreadsheet. A real, proper spreadsheet."

I served dinner, a delicious meal that was punctuated by Adrian's mother's arrival. She arrived, indeed, with a tablet displaying a meticulously organized spreadsheet outlining every single detail of the baby shower.

After dinner, we settled onto the couch, Adrian's hand resting on my stomach, while his mother reviewed her plans.

"Lila," Adrian's mother said, her eyes shining with pride. "Everything is perfect. The venue, the decorations, the menu. All that's left is for you to relax and enjoy your day."

"Thank you," I said, genuinely touched by her efforts. "You've done so much."

"Nonsense, dear," she waved her hand. "It's for my granddaughter! Now, have you packed your hospital bag yet?"

Adrian chuckled, squeezing my hand. "Mom, one step at a time."

We sat there until 10 p.m., finalizing last-minute details, Adrian occasionally interjecting with a witty comment that made his mother laugh. He went to his office, and I to my room.

That night I opened the notebook.

*Day 164 – Final preparations for Nadia Sofia's baby shower. Adrian's mom is amazing, a true superstar. Hospital bag discussed. Our little girl is almost here.*

Under it:

*She's Lila. She's his wife. Counting down the moments until they meet their star.*

Friday morning, the day of the baby shower, dawned bright and clear, reflecting the joy in my heart. I woke early, a mix of excitement and a touch of nervousness fluttering through me. Adrian was already awake, carefully selecting his tie.

"Good morning, my love," he said, coming over to kiss me. "Ready for your big day?"

"As ready as I'll ever be," I replied, taking a deep breath. Today felt like a dream.

Adrian's mother arrived shortly after, bringing with her a light breakfast and a small team of stylists to get me ready. Adrian, meanwhile, went to pick up Layla, who was staying with Mrs. Cole.

By 1 p.m., I was transformed. My hair was swept into soft waves, my makeup was fresh and radiant, and I wore a beautiful, flowing dress in a soft lavender that subtly highlighted my pregnancy. Adrian's mother beamed, her eyes welling up. "You look absolutely radiant, Lila. Our Nadia Sofia is going to have the most beautiful mama."

Just then, Adrian walked in with Layla. Layla, in her princess dress, gasped when she saw me. "Mama Lila! You're so pretty!" she shrieked, running to hug my legs.

Adrian's eyes widened, a slow, appreciative smile spreading across his face. "You truly are breathtaking, my love."

He kissed my forehead, then my stomach. "Hello, Nadia Sofia. Mama looks beautiful today, all for you."

We left for the garden tea room, the atmosphere in the car buzzing with excitement.

The venue was stunning. Adrian's mother had chosen a charming tea room with a glass ceiling and an abundance of lush greenery, adorned with twinkling fairy lights and delicate star and moon decorations. Guests had already started to arrive, a sea of smiling faces, all eager to celebrate Nadia Sofia.

Layla, in her element, flitted between guests, proudly announcing, "I'm going to be a big sister!"

Adrian, ever the gracious host, introduced me to his extended family and friends, all of whom offered warm wishes and heartfelt congratulations. The room was filled with laughter, the clinking of teacups, and the general hum of happy conversation.

Then came the presents. A mountain of beautifully wrapped gifts, each one a testament to the love and generosity surrounding us. Tiny clothes, soft blankets, educational toys, books – each gift was unwrapped with oohs and aahs, Layla acting as my enthusiastic assistant, handing me each bow and ribbon.

Adrian, sitting beside me, kept his hand protectively on my stomach, his eyes shining with pride and happiness.

"Lila," he whispered, leaning close. "This is everything I dreamed of, and more. A room full of people who love us, celebrating our daughter."

My eyes welled up. "It's perfect, Adrian. Thank you."

He squeezed my hand. "No, thank you. For bringing all of this into my life."

Later, Adrian's mother stood up, tapping her spoon against a glass. "I want to thank everyone for coming today to celebrate the impending arrival of my granddaughter, Nadia Sofia." A round of applause erupted. "And I want to give a special toast to Lila. My dear, you have brought so much light back into our lives, into Adrian's life, and into Layla's. You are a truly wonderful woman, and we are so blessed to have you."

Tears streamed down my face as everyone raised their glasses. Adrian pulled me into a tight hug, kissing my hair.

The baby shower concluded in the late afternoon, leaving us with cherished memories and a home filled with an abundance of beautiful baby gifts. Adrian, Layla, and I, tired but happy, drove home, the car silent except for Layla's soft snores from the backseat.

At 8 p.m., after putting Layla to bed, Adrian and I sat in the living room, surrounded by gifts. Adrian carefully opened a few more, his face alight with wonder at each tiny item.

"Lila," he said, his voice soft, almost reverent.

"Yes?"

"She is going to be so loved. So incredibly loved."

"She already is, Adrian. She already is."

He kissed my forehead. "I love you. Our two beautiful girls, and you, my amazing wife."

"I love you too, Adrian."

We sat there until 10 p.m., talking about the day, about the gifts, about our overwhelming gratitude. He went to his office, and I to my room.

That night I opened the notebook.

*Day 165 – Nadia Sofia's baby shower was today! It was beautiful and filled with so much love. Adrian's mom outdid herself. Layla was adorable. Our little girl is so loved already.*

Under it:

*She's Lila. She's his wife. Surrounded by boundless love, a mama heart overflowing.*

Saturday morning, the afterglow of the baby shower continued. Adrian made breakfast, and we sat discussing the gifts, making a list of everything we had received.

He kissed my stomach before leaving at 7 a.m. for a quick work call, promising to be back soon.

I spent the morning organizing the gifts, carefully placing each tiny outfit and toy into Nadia Sofia's nursery. The room now felt even more ready, more alive, awaiting its precious inhabitant.

At 4 p.m., Mrs. Cole called, her voice still filled with the joy of the previous day. "Lila, dear! Layla is already playing with her new baby doll, practicing being a big sister! She said she wants to give Nadia Sofia her favorite teddy bear."

My heart melted. "That's so sweet! Tell her Nadia Sofia will love it."

At 8 p.m., Adrian came home, a soft, contented smile on his face. He hugged me, then our baby. "Hello, Nadia Sofia. Your big sister is already a pro at taking care of you."

I laughed. "She's so excited to share her teddy bear."

"She is," he agreed. "My mom called again. She wants to coordinate sending out thank-you notes."

We had dinner, continuing to revel in the success of the baby shower. The overwhelming support and love we had received felt like a warm embrace.

After dinner, we settled onto the couch, Adrian's hand resting on my stomach.

"Lila," he said, his voice full of warmth.

"Yes?"

"It really hit me today, looking at all the gifts, all the smiling faces. Our daughter is going to grow up in such a loving environment."

My eyes welled up. "She is, Adrian. And she has the best father in the world."

He kissed my forehead. "I love you. My family. My everything."

"I love you too."

We sat there until 10 p.m., filled with a sense of happy anticipation, discussing the tiny gifts that would soon fill our home. He went to his office, and I to my room.

That night I opened the notebook.

*Day 166 – Organizing all the beautiful baby shower gifts. Layla wants to give Nadia Sofia her favorite teddy bear. Adrian is deeply touched by all the love. Our family is so blessed.*

Under it:

*She's Lila. She's his wife. Her heart is brimming with gratitude and love.*

I closed the notebook, a profound sense of peace and joy settling over me. The baby shower had been a beautiful success, a testament to the love surrounding Nadia Sofia. Our family was complete, thriving, and ready to welcome our little girl into a world filled with endless love. The anticipation for her arrival was now a sweet, constant hum in our lives.
