Chapter 42 - Chapter 42 Rival

The next morning, the bright sun shone over the tall gates of the new mansion.

Koneko stood in front of the huge front doors, holding a small suitcase.

Normally, the quiet white-haired girl lived in an apartment with Yuki.

But a few days ago, Yuki had packed her things and went to live with Seiko.

Koneko really didn't want to be in that empty apartment all by herself.

The silence made her feel deeply lonely, and it brought back bad memories.

So, she decided to pack her bags and come live with Rias.

When Koneko walked through the grand front doors, she saw Elias in the hallway.

He was wearing casual clothes and holding a backpack.

He was just about to leave for his university classes.

"Good morning, Koneko,"

Elias smiled warmly, stopping to look at her bags.

"Are you moving in?"

Koneko stopped and looked up at him.

As a Nekomata, her animal senses were incredibly sharp.

She twitched her nose and sniffed the air slightly.

She blinked in surprise.

Elias didn't smell like a terrifying, ancient dragon anymore.

He didn't smell like a dark Devil, and he didn't smell like a holy Angel.

He just smelled like a completely normal, everyday human.

He had hidden his massive, world-ending aura perfectly.

But Koneko knew the truth. She knew that if anyone tried to hurt the people inside this house, that calm, safe human scent would instantly vanish.

He could bring out all of his terrifying power in a split second.

Hiding that kind of strength made him look like a normal college student, but Koneko knew it actually made him the most dangerous person in the world.

"Good morning, Elias-onii san,"

Koneko replied softly, giving him a small, respectful bow.

"Yes. I am going to live with the President now."

"That is great news,"

Elias chuckled gently.

"We have plenty of room. Make yourself at home. I have to run to class, but I will see you tonight."

As Elias waved and walked out the front door, a very sweet voice called out from the living room.

"Koneko! You are here!"

It was Asia. The blonde former-nun ran over with a bright, happy smile.

Asia was always so gentle and kind to everyone.

She didn't ask Koneko why she was here, and she didn't make a big fuss.

She just reached out and gently took the heavy suitcase from Koneko's hands.

She also enrolled at Kuho. So they were senior and junior.

"Come with me,"

Asia said softly, her green eyes full of pure warmth and care.

"I will show you to your new room. It is right next to mine. Have you eaten breakfast yet? I can make you some warm tea and sweet pancakes while you unpack."

Usually, Koneko kept her guard up.

She liked to do things all by herself and didn't like relying on other people.

But Asia's pure kindness felt like a warm, safe blanket.

Koneko felt her tense shoulders finally relax. She didn't have to be strong or scared here.

"Thank you, Asia-senpai,"

Koneko whispered.

She let go of her bag and quietly followed the gentle girl down the hall, finally feeling like she was truly home.

Elias arrived at the busy university campus.

The morning sun was bright, and normal human students were walking and chatting everywhere.

Waiting for him near the front gates was Rin. She wore her usual red coat, her arms crossed patiently.

"You are a little late,"

Rin said, though she had a small, friendly smile on her face.

"Sorry,"

Elias chuckled, walking up to her.

They walked into the large building and headed to their first class together.

Elias liked spending time with Rin.

She was the one who had taught him human Magecraft, and she was incredibly smart.

While the Devils, Angels, and Fallen Angels were having their big supernatural problems, the hidden human world had its own deep issues.

Human magi could be just as tricky, greedy, and political as the Devil Kings.

They walked into the large lecture hall and sat down in the very back, far away from the other students.

Before the professor arrived, Rin leaned closer to him.

She lowered her voice so only Elias could hear.

"Elias, we need to talk about the human magic world,"

Rin said, her face turning very serious.

"Things are moving very fast right now."

"What is going on?"

Elias asked, giving her his full attention.

"It is about the Himejima clan,"

Rin whispered.

Elias frowned instantly. The Himejima clan was Shuri and Akeno's human family.

They were strict, traditional, and very cruel. They were the ones who had chased Shuri away a long time ago.

"What did they do?"

Elias asked, his voice turning a little cold.

"They just made a massive, dangerous alliance,"

Rin explained carefully.

"They officially joined forces with the Matou clan. The Matou are a very dark, very ancient family of human mages. Together, they are sharing their secret magic, their money, and their resources."

Elias crossed his arms, leaning back in his chair.

"Why would they do that?"

"For power, of course,"

Rin sighed, rubbing her temples.

"The Himejima want to be the absolute strongest family in the East. The Matou want more influence in the magic world. It is a perfect, evil match. But this new alliance is making all the other big human families very nervous."

Rin looked down at her desk, her blue eyes looking worried.

"The balance of power is breaking,"

She continued softly.

"The Edelfelt family is already gathering their own allies to fight back. The Kotomine family from the Church is watching every single move they make very closely. And even the Einzberns—the old, rich mages from the snowy mountains—are starting to wake up and get involved."

Elias understood perfectly.

Just like Kokabiel trying to start a Great War in the supernatural world, these human families were getting ready for their own hidden, bloody war.

"If the Himejima clan is getting stronger, they might try to come after Shuri-kaa san and Akeno again,"

Elias said quietly. His dark eyes were completely calm, but they held a heavy, dangerous promise.

"If they try to hurt my family to get more power, I will not let them."

Rin looked at him and smiled softly.

She had seen what his Magecraft could do.

She knew exactly how strong he was.

"I know you won't,"

Rin said gently.

"But these old magic families fight with secrets, traps, and politics. Just keep your eyes open, Elias. The human world can be just as dangerous as the Devil world."

The university classes passed by quickly.

Soon, the final bell rang, and students began to pack their bags.

"I have to go back to my workshop and check on a few things,"

Rin said as they walked out of the building.

"See you later, Elias. Remember what I said. Stay safe."

"You too, Rin,"

Elias smiled and waved goodbye.

Rin walked toward her own home, and Elias started his quiet walk back to the massive new mansion.

The sun was starting to set, casting long, orange shadows over the streets of the town.

As he walked down a quiet sidewalk, Elias suddenly stopped.

His sharp senses instantly picked up something out of the ordinary.

Someone was watching him.

He didn't turn his head. He kept walking at the exact same speed, acting perfectly normal.

He could hear the soft, careful footsteps following him from a distance.

Elias turned a corner into an empty alleyway.

The moment he was out of sight, he moved. *Whoosh.* He vanished into thin air.

A few seconds later, the stalker hurried around the corner, looking panicked.

The alley was completely empty.

The stalker looked left and right, highly confused.

"Are you looking for me?"

Elias's calm voice echoed from right behind her.

The stalker jumped in pure shock and spun around quickly.

Elias blinked, genuinely surprised.

He expected to see a dark, dangerous assassin from the Himejima or Matou clans.

Instead, the person standing in front of him was a very beautiful young woman.

She wore an elegant, expensive blue dress and had long, bright blonde hair styled in perfect, bouncing ringlets.

She looked like a wealthy princess, not a secret spy.

"How... how did you get behind me?!"

The blonde woman gasped, taking a step back.

"I am very fast,"

Elias answered simply, keeping his hands in his pockets.

"Who are you? And why are you following me all the way from the university?"

The woman quickly regained her composure.

She stood up perfectly straight, lifted her chin, and crossed her arms.

She looked very proud and confident.

"I suppose I should introduce myself,"

She said, her voice rich and elegant.

"I am Luviagelita Edelfelt. But you may call me Luvia."

Elias's eyes narrowed just a little bit.

He remembered what Rin had just told him an hour ago.

The Edelfelt family was one of the big, powerful magic families getting ready for a war.

"An Edelfelt,"

Elias said slowly.

"Rin just mentioned your family. Why is an important mage like you spying on me in a random alleyway?"

Luvia's cheeks turned slightly pink, but she kept her proud stance.

"I did not come to Kuoh town to spy on *you*, mister,"

Luvia huffed, brushing a blonde curl away from her face.

"I came to observe my greatest rival, Rin Tohsaka. I needed to see what she was planning with all these new alliances forming in the magic world."

"But you didn't follow Rin,"

Elias pointed out calmly.

"You followed me."

Luvia sighed dramatically and pointed a finger at him.

"Because I saw the two of you together!"

Luvia admitted, her voice rising with frustration.

"I could not believe my eyes. Rin Tohsaka, the strict, boring magic student, walking around campus acting so friendly with a very handsome man. I was completely shocked!"

Luvia looked away, looking a little embarrassed.

"Fine, I admit it,"

Luvia muttered.

"I was a little bit jealous. Rin and I compete in everything. I wanted to see what kind of incredible man she managed to catch as a boyfriend. I wanted to know all her secrets."

Elias stared at her for a second.

Then, he couldn't help it. He let out a soft laugh.

Luvia glared at him.

"What is so funny?"

"You misunderstood everything,"

Elias smiled kindly, shaking his head.

"Rin and I are not dating. We are not a couple at all. She is just a very good friend and my magic teacher."

Luvia's eyes went wide.

Her aggressive posture completely melted away.

"Wait... really?"

Luvia asked, blinking in surprise.

"You are not her boyfriend?"

"No,"

Elias said firmly.

"I already have a girlfriend waiting for me at home. Rin and I were just talking about the Himejima clan and the Matou clan."

Luvia let out a long breath. A small, genuine smile actually appeared on her face.

"Oh,"

Luvia said, fixing her dress.

"Well. That changes things completely. It seems I made a very silly mistake."

She looked at Elias with a new, very interesting spark in her blue eyes.

He wasn't just handsome; he was also powerful enough to sneak up on a high-class mage like her without making a sound.

"If you are not tied down to that boring Tohsaka girl,"

Luvia smiled playfully, stepping just a little bit closer to him.

"Then perhaps we should get to know each other better. What is your name, mysterious boy?"

(Jelopy) Almost throw away my writing spirit because of my fuk up life but yeah I need to pay bills so meh.
