Seraphina could feel his emotions, so intense they were impossible to ignore.
Her hands, resting in front of her, clenched tighter and tighter.
She silently watched him, his gaze fixed on her, and a painful tightness constricted her heart.
She reached out, touching his furrowed brow. Looking into his eyes, she said, "Damian Fairchild, what are you afraid of?"
Damian Fairchild's Adam's apple bobbed silently.
He had never consciously thought about it before.
But now that Seraphina asked, the answer surfaced in his mind with perfect clarity.
He looked at Seraphina, his hand stroking her face. "Because more than losing you," he said, "I'm terrified you'll fall in love with someone else."
Seraphina's expression grew serious, her voice tinged with surprise. "Are you worried... I'll fall in love with Cian?"
Damian Fairchild didn't answer. His expression remained placid, but Seraphina could feel the muscles all over his body tense up.
