Chapter 25 - SHADOW BENEATH THE HARBOR

CHAPTER 25 – Shadows Beneath the Harbor

The water below reflected no stars, no moonlight, just darkness that seemed to swallow the docks whole. Ryan's eyes scanned the black surface, subtle ripples dancing unnaturally, as if the water itself resented his presence.

"Scan it," Ryan said, voice low, addressing Nano. "Trace the source of this energy. Tell me what's feeding it."

A faint hum pulsed in Ryan's ears as the small mechanical unit floated beside him, lights flickering, scanning. Data streamed across his senses: corrupted energy flows, small yet concentrated. Something deep beneath the harbor fed it.

The captured black-robed man led them forward, reluctant steps echoing on the wooden planks. The further they went, the heavier the air became. Salt and rot mingled with a subtle, metallic tang—an almost imperceptible stench of corrupted cultivation.

At the end of a narrow pier, he stopped, hesitating. "It's… here," he muttered, glancing over his shoulder. The boards of the dock shifted slightly, hiding a hatch beneath moss and debris. Ryan stepped forward, eyes narrowing.

"You've brought us to your boss," Ryan said flatly.

A cold, layered voice answered from the shadows behind the hatch. "So, you've captured my messenger. I expected… more respect."

The hatch clanged open and the figure emerged. The boss was tall, cloaked in dark energy that seemed to absorb the faint torchlight. His men, equally dark and coiled with corruption, flanked him—ready, poised, and dangerous.

The black-robed man at Ryan's side gasped—then, before he could react, the boss's hand surged with black energy. A jagged spike shot outward, piercing him. He crumpled instantly, eyes wide with fear, a single gurgle escaping.

Ryan's jaw tightened. No words were wasted; the fight began.

The boss shouted commands, his voice a whip. His men surged forward, dark energy crackling along their limbs. Sikong gripped his spear, eyes narrowing, calculating. Every step, every motion, every shadow became a weapon.

Ryan moved first, his energy flowing in Pulse Awakening, every vein and sinew aligning. He advanced, Shadow Step, vanishing for an instant only to reappear at the boss's flank. His sword slashed in a Flowing Edge, meeting dark energy that hissed and warped at the impact.

The boss twisted, countering with a strike of his own, the force sending a shockwave across the pier. Water splashed, ripples twisting unnaturally, reacting to the corrupted energy. Ryan adjusted instantly, flowing into Meridian Ignition, energy surging along his limbs, reinforcing every strike. He feinted, shifted, and executed Wind Severing Strike, slicing through the boss's guard and forcing him back.

Sikong was a storm beside him. His spear spun, creating afterimages that fractured the perception of the enemy. Every Shadow Initiation thrust, every Twin Shadow Strike, struck like lightning, pushing the boss's men to their limits. Flowing Shadow carried him across the dock, twisting his body, evading attacks while striking in impossible angles.

One man lunged with a claw of corrupted energy. Sikong feinted, Phantom Feint, and the attacker struck nothing but air, leaving him exposed. Another thrust was met with a spinning Thousand Shadow Flurry, spear tips cutting a deadly rhythm across the deck.

Meanwhile, Ryan pressed the boss, Blood Resonance coursing, every strike synchronized with the faint vibrations of the enemy's energy. The corrupted cultivator staggered under the precision of Bone Tempering Pulse, reinforced limbs moving faster than anticipated. Ryan's Space Ripple Slash split the air, not only cutting through his guard but warping the flow of energy, forcing the boss to step back.

Dark energy spiraled from the boss, forming protective tendrils. "Impressive… but do you know what you face?" His voice was sharp, cruel. "This harbor is only the beginning. What lies beneath… will devour you."

Ryan didn't reply. He read the fight, adapting, responding—never forcing. His body moved as one with his technique, with the flow of the combat.

Sikong's spear whistled and spun, each strike precise yet fluid, keeping the boss's men off balance. "They won't hold for long!" he yelled, thrusting in Vanishing Point, disappearing from one angle and striking from another. The remaining men faltered under the relentless pressure.

The clash echoed over the lower docks: metal against metal, energy against energy, the corrupted aura of the boss radiating outward. Water sloshed and dark shadows twisted around them.

Finally, a momentary pause—both Ryan and the boss eyed each other, calculating. The fight was far from over, but the first wave of the boss's men had fallen, scattered across the wooden planks, some unconscious, some retreating into the shadows.

Ryan's gaze swept the chamber, noting the subtle flux of corruption—small, concentrated pockets, feeding from deep below. He could sense the underground facility, hidden beneath the docks, the true source of the missing cultivators and the dark rituals whispered of in hushed tones.

"Where are they?" Ryan demanded, voice low, unyielding.

The boss sneered, dark energy spiraling along his limbs. "If you want answers, you'll have to dig… literally."

Sikong's spear whirled again, eyes glinting. "We're not leaving until we do."

And so, with the first wave defeated, the docks became a battlefield once more—Ryan and Sikong pressed deeper, chasing the answers hidden beneath Black Tide Harbor, aware that this was only the beginning of the shadows waiting for them below.
