Chapter 21 - Chapter 21 – The Name of Fear

The arena had been reinforced with magic.

The stone ground shimmered faintly under a gray aura, pulsing in slow intervals as if it were breathing. Rows of students filled the stands, their voices low, restless.

Something about today felt different.

At the highest point of the arena, Selvan stood still, his hands resting behind his back.

Dorum was beside him.

"He's here."

Selvan didn't move his gaze.

"Don't watch with your eyes," he said quietly. "Watch with your soul."

The gates opened.

Kashikari walked in.

No greeting.

No hesitation.

Just footsteps—echoing across the arena.

The noise faded.

Not all at once.

But enough.

A silence spread.

Not empty.

Not calm.

Something else.

Kashikari stopped at the center.

Jinwi's voice surfaced, low and distant.

"This silence… is it fear?"

Kashikari didn't react outwardly.

Fear speaks for those who cannot act.

A pause.

"Then why are you still silent?"

Because silence… is control.

His opponent stepped forward.

A third-year.

Ravel.

Broad shoulders, heavy stance, a massive sword resting against the ground.

Loud.

Confident.

"You're the quiet one, huh?" he said with a grin. "Let's see what you've got."

Kashikari didn't answer.

He didn't even move.

That alone irritated Ravel.

With a sharp exhale, he charged.

The ground cracked under his step as he swung his blade forward with full force.

The strike cut through the air—

Close.

Too close.

The edge passed Kashikari's face, grazing just enough to disturb a strand of hair.

And still—

He didn't move.

For a moment, confusion flickered across Ravel's face.

Then—

Kashikari raised his hand.

Not fast.

Not dramatic.

Just enough.

A faint gray vibration spread outward from his palm.

Subtle.

Almost invisible.

Ravel froze.

Mid-motion.

His expression locked.

His body… didn't respond.

The massive sword in his hands trembled—

Then crumbled.

Not shattered.

Not broken.

It simply… turned to dust.

Silence.

Complete.

Kashikari lowered his hand.

"Done."

A sharp voice broke through the stillness.

"Aura reading… zero?!"

An instructor stared at the measuring device, disbelief clear in his voice.

"That's not possible… how can it be zero?!"

Jinwi's voice echoed faintly.

"Even nothingness… can be power."

Kashikari didn't stay.

He turned.

And walked away.

No reaction.

No acknowledgment.

Just quiet steps leaving the arena behind.

The silence didn't follow him.

It stayed.

Behind him.

In the stands, whispers slowly returned.

Uneven.

Uncertain.

"…Kashikari…"

"What was that…?"

"No aura… but that pressure…"

No one understood.

But all of them felt it.

Something wasn't right.

And for the first time—

They didn't know if they wanted to understand.
