Chapter 49 - The hunt begins

The Hunt Begins

The city was awake.

But Alexander Knight had already been awake long before dawn.

He stood in the center of his study, the room dimly lit, shadows stretching across the walls like silent witnesses.

His suit jacket rested untouched on a chair.

His sleeves were rolled up.

His expression—

Cold.

Unreadable.

On the table before him—

Files.

Photos.

Names.

Connections.

All leading to one man.

Adrian Voss.

Alexander's fingers pressed firmly against the edge of the table.

"You should have stayed dead…" he muttered under his breath.

But regret wasn't part of this anymore.

Only action.

Behind him, the door opened quietly.

"Everything's ready."

Alexander didn't turn.

"Talk."

The man stepped forward—one of his most trusted security operatives.

"We traced the number that contacted Mrs. Knight," he said.

"It bounced through multiple servers—encrypted, masked—but…"

A pause.

"We found a pattern."

Now Alexander turned.

Slowly.

"Where?"

"Brooklyn docks."

Silence filled the room.

Then—

A dangerous smile appeared on Alexander's lips.

"Of course…"

The docks.

Old territory.

History.

Blood.

Everything started there.

And now—

It was starting again.

The Calm Before Violence

Upstairs—

Isabella stood by the window, watching the early morning sky.

Her arms wrapped tightly around herself.

She hadn't slept.

Not even for a minute.

Because now—

She knew.

Not just pieces.

Not just hints.

The truth.

And the truth was terrifying.

Alexander wasn't just powerful.

He was dangerous.

And the man coming after them?

Even worse.

The door opened behind her.

She didn't turn.

"You're going after him."

It wasn't a question.

Alexander stepped into the room.

"Yes."

Simple.

Direct.

Her eyes closed briefly.

"Then this is really happening…" she whispered.

He walked closer.

"It already started."

She turned to face him.

Her eyes filled with emotion.

Fear.

Love.

Uncertainty.

"This isn't just business, is it?"

A pause.

"No."

"It's personal."

His silence confirmed it.

She stepped closer.

"Promise me something."

He looked at her.

"What?"

Her voice trembled slightly.

"Come back to me."

That hit harder than anything else.

For a moment—

The ruthless man disappeared.

And the man who loved her stood there instead.

He reached out.

Pulled her into him.

"I always do."

But this time—

Even he wasn't sure.

The Descent

The drive was silent.

Black car.

Tinted windows.

Armed men.

And Alexander in the back seat—

Eyes fixed ahead.

Focused.

Sharp.

Every second—

Every breath—

He was changing.

Returning to something he buried long ago.

Not the CEO.

Not the lover.

But the man who ruled through fear.

The man Adrian Voss once stood beside.

Until betrayal turned them into enemies.

Brooklyn Docks

The air was thick.

Salt.

Rust.

Danger.

Ships creaked softly in the distance.

Water moved slowly beneath the dim light of flickering lamps.

Alexander stepped out of the car.

His men followed behind him.

But he raised a hand slightly.

"Stay back."

Because this—

Was personal.

He walked forward alone.

Each step steady.

Controlled.

Like he already knew what was waiting.

And he did.

"Took you long enough."

The voice echoed from the shadows.

Alexander stopped.

Then slowly—

He looked up.

And there he was.

Adrian Voss.

Alive.

Leaning casually against a metal container.

Smiling.

That same smile from the photo.

Cold.

Dangerous.

"Miss me?" Adrian said lightly.

Silence.

Heavy.

Explosive.

"You should be dead." Alexander repeated.

Adrian chuckled softly.

"You really need to stop saying that…"

He pushed himself off the container.

Stepping into the light.

"Clearly, it didn't work the first time."

Alexander's jaw tightened.

"You're a mistake I'm about to fix."

Adrian's smile widened.

"There he is…"

He tilted his head slightly.

"I was wondering how long it would take before you showed your real self again."

A pause.

"The man I built an empire with."

Alexander didn't respond.

Didn't need to.

Because this wasn't about words anymore.

The Past Collides

"Do you remember?" Adrian continued.

Slow steps.

Circling slightly.

"The nights we spent planning everything…"

"The deals…"

"The power…"

His voice darkened.

"The blood."

Silence.

Alexander's eyes didn't leave him.

"You betrayed me."

Adrian laughed.

"No…"

He stopped walking.

"I evolved."

A pause.

"You just couldn't keep up."

That was it.

Alexander moved.

Fast.

Before Adrian could react—

His fist connected with his jaw.

Hard.

Adrian stumbled back slightly—

Then laughed.

"There it is!"

He wiped the blood from his lip.

"That's the Alexander I remember!"

War Begins

Everything exploded at once.

Men from the shadows.

Weapons drawn.

Shouts.

Movement.

Alexander's men rushed in.

Chaos.

But Alexander?

He didn't look at anyone else.

Only Adrian.

Because this wasn't a fight.

It was unfinished business.

Adrian lunged forward.

They collided.

Fist against fist.

Force against force.

Years of anger.

Betrayal.

Hatred.

Unleashed.

Elsewhere…

Back at the house—

Isabella stood still.

Her chest tight.

Her heart racing.

Because deep down—

She felt it.

Something was happening.

Something dangerous.

She held onto their daughter tightly.

"He'll come back…" she whispered.

But fear…

Said otherwise.

Back to the Fight

Alexander pinned Adrian against the container.

His grip tight.

"Stay away from my family."

Adrian smiled—

Even then.

"Too late."

Those two words—

Changed everything.

Alexander's expression darkened completely.

Danger reached its peak.

"Then you die today."
