Chapter 24 - Breaking Point

Breaking Point

Breaking Point

The company was in chaos.

The moment the news broke—

Everything spiraled.

Employees whispering.

Phones buzzing nonstop.

Media blogs exploding with headlines.

"CEO Scandal!"

"Secret Relationship Exposed!"

"Assistant or More?"

Isabella sat frozen at her desk.

Every whisper felt louder.

Every stare sharper.

"I knew it…"

"That's why she got promoted…"

"Of course…"

Her chest tightened.

She couldn't breathe.

"Isabella."

She looked up.

Alexander was standing there.

Calm on the outside—

But his eyes?

Storming.

"Come with me."

No arguments.

No hesitation.

Board Meeting

The tension in the boardroom was suffocating.

Mr. Lucas sat there—

A satisfied look hidden behind fake concern.

"Care to explain this, Mr. Knight?"

The photos were placed on the table.

Alexander didn't even glance at them.

"My personal life is not this board's concern."

Murmurs spread.

"When it affects the company, it becomes our concern," Lucas replied smoothly.

All eyes turned to Isabella.

She felt small.

Exposed.

"Is this why she has access to confidential matters?" Lucas added.

That did it.

Alexander stood up.

"Watch your words."

His voice was cold.

Dangerous.

"Or what?" Lucas challenged.

Silence.

"Or you'll regret it," Alexander said simply.

The room went still.

Meeting adjourned.

But the damage?

Already done.

His House

That night—

Alexander didn't take her home.

He took her to his house.

"It's safer here," he said.

Isabella didn't argue.

She couldn't.

The moment the door closed—

Her walls broke.

"I didn't sign up for this…" she whispered, her voice shaking.

And then—

She broke.

Tears fell freely.

Alexander moved instantly.

Pulling her into his arms.

Holding her tightly.

"I've got you," he murmured.

"No one is going to hurt you."

She held onto him like she needed him to breathe.

And in that moment—

Nothing else mattered.

Their eyes met.

Close.

Emotional.

Raw.

And then—

They kissed.

Not rushed.

Not desperate.

But deep.

Comforting.

Needing each other.

The kind of kiss that said everything words couldn't.

That night—

They didn't just hold back anymore.

They stayed together.

Close.

Connected.

Not just by desire—

But by everything they were going through.

The Next Morning

Soft sunlight filled the room.

Isabella stirred slightly.

Opening her eyes slowly.

And then she felt it.

A gaze.

She looked up—

Alexander was already awake.

Watching her.

A faint smirk on his lips.

"What?" she asked softly.

"You're not going anywhere," he said quietly.

"You're mine."

Her heart skipped.

She smiled softly—

Resting her head gently on his chest.

"Then don't let me go."

Back at the Company

The tension hadn't faded.

But the gossip?

Slowly dying down.

Until—

Something new arrived.

Alexander's parents.

They didn't come to his house.

They came to the company.

Straight to Isabella.

"We're Alexander's parents," his mother said with a warm smile.

But his father?

Cold.

Judging.

His eyes scanned Isabella like she wasn't good enough.

And she felt it instantly.

Unwelcome.

"You're his assistant?" his father asked sharply.

"Yes, sir."

"I see…"

That tone.

It wasn't approval.

Later—

Inside Alexander's office—

Isabella walked in to drop a file.

She didn't expect them to still be there.

His father looked at her—

And this time, he didn't hold back.

"So this is the girl causing all the trouble," he said coldly.

Isabella froze.

"Girls like you…"

He scoffed.

"Always aiming higher than your place."

The words hit hard.

Too hard.

Before she could respond—

"That's enough."

Alexander's voice cut through the room.

Sharp.

Furious.

He stepped forward.

Standing between them.

"You will not speak to her like that."

His father laughed slightly.

"You're defending her?"

"I'm warning you," Alexander replied.

Silence.

"Leave."

His mother looked uneasy.

His father… not pleased.

But they left.

Not before his father sent Isabella one last cold, piercing look.

Aftermath

The room felt heavy.

Alexander turned to her.

"Isabella—"

But she stepped back.

"I'm fine," she said quickly.

She wasn't.

"We need to talk—"

"I have work to do," she cut in.

And then—

She left.

Because she knew—

If she stayed…

She would break.

Inside the office—

Alexander stood still.

For the first time—

Powerless.

Because the one person he wanted to protect—

Was slipping away from him.

And it hurt.

More than anything else.

That day—

The gossip faded.

The noise died down.

But something else was coming.

Something bigger.

More dangerous.

And this time—

It wouldn't be easy to fight.
