Chapter 27 — Weakness of the Dragon Army
The dragon roared fiercely.
Shinji Ikari frowned.
To him, these winged creatures that breathed fire looked nothing more than oversized lizards pretending to be real dragons.
In his mind, a true dragon was something else entirely—
A legendary creature that could coil through the clouds, its body stretching across the sky, its head visible while its tail disappeared into the mist.
These things?
They were just monsters with scales.
"Be quiet."
Shinji punched the red-scaled dragon directly on the head.
Then he grabbed its horns with both hands.
No matter how violently it struggled—
It couldn't shake him off.
"That blond mad scientist really did a number on me earlier," Shinji muttered.
"Blowing up the whole mountain like that…"
"Honestly, if you'd only collapsed the cave, I might've been buried inside forever."
Several dragons attacked him head-on.
Their claws looked like oversized chicken claws.
"Up."
Shinji pulled hard on the dragon's horns.
The dragon's head jerked upward.
At that moment—
Another dragon scratched across its body.
ROAR!
The dragon Shinji was holding became furious.
It opened its mouth and breathed fire.
But that attack immediately provoked the others.
Flames erupted from every direction.
The temperature in the sky rose sharply.
This chaotic scene finally caught Thakri's attention.
"That brat is still alive?!"
"Impossible!"
"He should've been crushed under the rubble!"
Thakri shouted angrily.
"Attack!"
"Kill them before they succeed!"
Several dragon soldiers rushed forward.
They had long abandoned muskets and swords.
Their claws and dragon bodies were far more powerful weapons.
They charged directly at Shinji and Drake.
Shinji stepped lightly through the air.
Using Moon Step, he dodged the flames.
The dragon he had been riding was instantly surrounded by the others.
Moments later—
It was burned to a crisp.
The massive roasted body fell rapidly toward the ground.
Shinji didn't even look back.
Instead—
He locked onto another dragon.
"Moon Step!"
"Finger Pistol!"
"Moon Step—Tempest Kick!"
Because he had only recently learned Moon Step, his movements were still unstable.
Whenever he fired a Finger Pistol, the recoil pushed him backward through the air.
His Tempest Kick spins sometimes made him rotate like a windmill.
But despite the awkward movements—
The attacks were still powerful.
"You Marine!" one of the dragon soldiers shouted.
"You can't break our dragon scales!"
"Our armor is invincible!"
Shinji smiled faintly.
"Then you clearly don't know what an Iron Fist is."
He charged forward.
His fist slammed into the dragon soldier's head.
"Impossible—!"
BOOM!
Blood exploded into the air.
The dragon soldier's headless body fell from the sky.
"Nothing is impossible," Shinji said calmly.
"Your scales are as strong as steel."
"But that doesn't mean every part of your body has scales."
"You kept your human heads."
"That's your weakness."
He stepped through the air again and kicked another dragon soldier in the chest.
"Your bodies, necks, and heads—"
"All the places that didn't fully transform."
"Those are the obvious weak points."
"If you can't even see that, then this army is a joke."
Hearing this—
Drake suddenly understood.
He shouted toward Shinji.
"But when I attacked Thakri, I broke his armor and still couldn't injure him!"
Shinji grabbed another dragon by the horns and forced it to thrash wildly.
"You think everyone is like him?"
He forced the dragon to bite another dragon soldier.
The dragon's fangs couldn't pierce the scaled limbs or tail.
But when it bit the neck—
The flesh tore apart instantly.
The dragon soldier died on the spot.
"See?"
Shinji explained calmly.
"That guy is different."
"Didn't you notice he's taller than the others?"
"If I'm right, those fully formed fire dragons are the base for his perfect serum."
"But he only used the complete version on himself."
"The rest of these soldiers only received incomplete versions."
"That means—"
"Thakri kept his human mind and body while gaining the full strength and defense of a flame dragon."
"These others?"
"They're just humans with dragon horns, wings, claws, and tails attached."
"They only look similar."
"But their bodies are still human."
"I see," Drake said quietly.
He gripped his axe in one hand and sword in the other.
Using Moon Step, he dashed forward like a streak of lightning.
In an instant—
He passed behind a dragon soldier.
An X-shaped slash appeared across the dragon's neck.
The creature collapsed immediately.
Once the others saw their fallen companion—
Their expressions changed.
"Why can they break our defense?!"
"Is that Marine telling the truth?"
"Doctor Thakri!"
"Answer us!"
The dragon soldiers hovered in the sky, glaring at the scientist.
Thakri's face twisted.
"He's lying!"
"This is only a temporary defect!"
"I will create an even more perfect serum!"
"Attack them!"
"If we drive them away, we can escape!"
But the doubts remained.
"Doctor… didn't you say the serum we took was already perfect?"
The question made Thakri furious.
"You dare question me?!"
"I told you!"
"You are using the perfect serum!"
He slammed his claw against a bracelet on his wrist.
The mechanical pack on his back transformed.
Metal plates unfolded—
Forming a set of alloy armor around his body.
"You fools."
"For living creatures, instinct creates natural dominance."
"From the beginning, I designed every serum using myself as the standard."
"Only I can achieve the perfect transformation!"
"If you still refuse to obey…"
"Then I'll deal with them myself!"
Thakri raised his hand.
A powerful pressure spread through the air.
The dragons suddenly felt an intense pain in their scales.
Only then did they realize the truth.
From the beginning—
All the serums had been designed to serve Thakri himself.
Every dragon here—
Even the complete fire dragons—
Were nothing more than experimental products.
Even worse—
Their bodies contained a hidden control mechanism.
They could not resist his commands.
"Attack!"
"Kill those two!"
Thakri ordered coldly.
"Afterward, meet me at the next island."
The surviving fire dragons roared and charged forward.
Even though they hated Thakri—
They had no choice but to obey.
Their hatred now turned toward Shinji and Drake.
After all—
From their perspective, it was Shinji who had killed Lola.
If Lola were still alive—
Thakri would never have taken control.
As Lola's former subordinates, they believed the scientist would have remained only a subordinate.
But now everything had changed.
And their anger had nowhere else to go.
High in the sky—
Drake was surrounded by a massive swarm of fire dragons.
Using Moon Step, he struggled to keep moving.
Flames burst toward him from every direction.
For a moment—
His tiny figure was about to be swallowed by the blazing fire.
