Ethan's POV
The drive home from the resort was quieter than the trip there. William sat in the passenger seat with his head resting against the window. Soft afternoon light moved across his face as the trees passed by. He had been through a lot in just a few days. The attack by that alpha still sat heavy on him, even though I had healed the bruise and kept him close every night. I could feel the leftover tension in the way he held his shoulders and the way his fingers stayed curled loosely in his lap.
I kept one hand on the wheel and the other resting near his knee, close enough that he could reach for it if he wanted. Every now and then I glanced at him. His eyes were open, watching the road, but they looked tired in a deep way.
"We're almost home," I said gently.
He gave a small nod. "Okay."
