Chapter 8 - Chapter Eight: Friends

Josh sat in bed, looking at his phone, and saw it was 8:36 AM; then he walked to the bathroom. Looking in the mirror, he saw his facial hair start to grow, and he was about to cut it before stopping himself. Washing his face and brushing his teeth, walking down the stairs, and seeing his family talking to one another. They all looked at him, Mary sighing and smiling as he sat down at the table to eat. He sat there, not saying a word, while the rest of the kids ate. Mary spoke, "Are you not hungry?" He shook his head no. Osiris glared at him, saying, "You haven't been eating for a couple of days, father." Mary was about to say something before Josh stopped her, "You never called me father?" Oriris smirked, "Well, I guess a lot of things have changed in the last few days." Mary replied, "That is no way to speak to your dad." Wendy snapped back, "I think it's time to talk about the criminal in the room." Josh looked at her, "I'm not a criminal." Tala said, "That is not what the news said about you." Mary yelled back, "You should trust the news." Oriris smirked, "The news is untruthworthy, but we all saw the footage." Josh got up."Go to your room, all of you!" Oriris shouted out with a "I can't believe I have to grow up with a monster."

The room went silent before Mary shouted back, Josh just zoned out, just thinking about the words echoing in his "Monster! Monster!? Monster?" He looked around; time was almost at a standstill as he watched his family fight and bicker, yet everything around them was dark, with a small light limiting their bodies. He looked at himself before slamming his hands against the desk.

The world came back, and the fighting stopped; they all looked at him in a monotone voice. He looked at Osiris, saying for all to hear, "Monster, you have no idea what a real monster acts like!" They were all too stunned to speak before he snapped his finger, teleporting away. He sat on the roof feeling the cold air on his face. He looked around, feeling like someone was watching him, yet there was no one to be seen. He looked towards his friend's house before setting his eyes on Ade's house. He hopped off the roof, walking towards Ade's house. He was now inches from the door before he decided to walk away. He was now at the end of the driveway, then heard a familiar voice: "Josh are you doing okay?" Josh turned his head slowly; his eyes felt exhausted. He tried to smile, but he couldn't even do that. He waved to Robert, trying to speak, but nothing came out. Robert walked closer to him and Josh stepped back. "Josh if you need someone to talk to you can talk to me." Josh aggressively turned his head, saying, "No, I am fine, just need something to think about." Robert looked down and stepped back, sighing, " Well, please wear some shoes and actual clothes." Josh looked down, seeing his pj and bare feet, not even noticing it. Josh just walked away. Robert walked towards him. "Wait Josh you need to talk to someone." Josh snapped his finger, teleporting to his house. He looked around the living room, seeing his kids on the couch. He didn't say anything, brushed his feet in the trash of glass and metal off. He walked upstairs, seeing his wife on the bed reading a book he walked to the closet. Picking out clothes, groaning to himself.

Ade watched his old friend walk towards his house, and he thought to himself, "He doesn't look too good at all." He held his breath as he watched him from the door he walked to the door about to open. His body was telling him yes, please just open the door, but his mind just forced him not to. Josh walked away from the door. Ade walked away from the window, sitting on the couch, burying his hands in his face groaning. He heard the knock on the door and walked to the door, saying, "Hey who is it?" The voice in a more concerned tone replied with, "Just me Robert can we talk?" Ade just barely cracked open the door, smiling, trying to seem happy, "Hey, what's wrong with Fenna, okay?" Robert grinned, "No she's fine, is everything okay with you?" Ade knew he was going to ask that question; he was unsure how to even respond. He sighed, looking down then up to Robert's face, his worry in his face caused Ade to say something, "I'm not ready to talk, can you give me more time?" For the first time in their talk, Robert gave a real smile, "Take all the time you need."Ade nodded his head, saying, "I'm about to leave. I'll be back before the sun sets." Robert walked away from the door as Ade closed it. His heart was beating. He was scared of how Robert would react, more worried yet, that was one of the best things that could happen to him. He walked back upstairs, brushing his teeth and washing his face, putting on his shoes before teleporting to downtown Dallas. He put on his headphones, turned up the music walking through the city, avoiding making eye contact with anyone for too long. He walked through the cities, going to parks, dodging and crashing into people. He saw a pizza place named "Pie Six," he walked in, took off his headphones, and then talked to the host. They were moved through a restaurant on the back end of the place, away from people. He sat, looking over the menu of pizzas, calzones, and pastas, along with a variety of drinks, most of them soda. A girl walked to him with dark ginger hair that was beautifully curled. "Hello can I sit here with you," he just nodded his head, and she just sat across from him. There wasn't much talking until the waiter came. She was an older lady, mid-40s, if he had to guess. She said, "What would you like to drink today?"Ade spoke first, "I will have a Diet Coke."They both looked towards the girl. "I just have iced water." She nodded his head before leaving. Ade asked, "I never asked what your name is? She looked down from her menu "My name is Adara." Ade thought to himself they soon started to talk. Soon drinks came and they ordered their food."As you most likely should know from the news, the real reason you sat next to me was to be with the famous hero?" Adara didn't say anything, just thought to herself. Then shake her head no. "You seem really alone, and you might just need to talk to someone." Ade froze up hearing that "Well… ummm.. Thank you for cheering me up."Ade said "Where are you from?" Adara replied, "Why do you want this information?" Ade leaned on the back of the chair saying "Well you name sounds Middle Eastern." She smirked "Well, my mother and father were born in Iraq and Iran before moving to the U.S." Ade swilled her glass before sitting, leaning forward just looking at her smirking she said "If you want my number, just say it."Ade was about to say something but their food came and they ate it. "What about your friends that I saw you with on Fox News a couple of days ago?" Adara said, Ade replayed automatically "We are not speaking to each other." Adara said in an even tone "Well, it takes time for friendship to heal." Ade took that comment to his mind folders thinking to himself. Ade even paid for the bill saying, "He should pay for a woman's meal." They were outside before Adara said "Are you going to take me to an actual date?" Ade just looked at her, unsure what to say Adara got closer to Ade. He started to take a couple of steps back before grabbing his hand pulling him in to kiss him. Ade was thrown off and she tried to kiss him again before pushing her gently back. Saying "Sorry, Adara, I don't like you like that or really any like that." Adara laughed for the first time that night to the point of tears "I guess you really were the ace of cards in the deck. "This made Ade start to laugh. They both laughed for a couple of minutes before opened her arms and hugging her. Ade hugged her, waving her goodbye before teleporting away. She smiled and faded away saying to herself "By the god of Alexander." She pulled out her phone "Your plan didn't work. Of course, I tried to use my power on him, but it still didn't work." I swear to all things I will-." They hung up before she could say any more. She stomps the group, saying, "Alexander," before waving her hand in a circle, opening a portal, and walking through.

Ade teleported back to his house, smiling, thinking about what Adara said: "You might just need to talk to someone." He opened his door, walking towards Robert's house as the sun began to set, knocking on the door. He opened the door, looking surprised. Ade smiled, saying, "I'm ready to talk!" Robert smiled back, waving at him inside the house.

Ade closed his eyes, looking around. He was in downtown Dallas at night. The restaurant was called ''Salt Grass,' Ade looked over to Nimual, who was displeased about the situation he was in. Josh said in a playful sitting across from them, "Cheer up, Niumal, it's your birthday, and we're officially.." Josh thought about that, trying to remember when Nimual was created, saying, "Well, somewhere in the billions." Niumal replied dryly, "Wow, you know how to make a man feel young." Ade nudged Niumal, saying, "Light up, I know you don't like the public heck, I don't like being out but you with your friends." Tala cut in, saying, "Also us." Niumal and Ade turned to Tala, who was right next to Nuimal. Ade nearly turned out the others, and they decided to bring Robert and Feena's kids and Josh and Mary's kids along with them. Richard spoke, "I still don't know why you had to bring us along?" Robert looked at his son, who was unhappy with the situation, saying, "Well, it's nice to come out in life every once in a while." Nina spoke in a soft voice, "Well, I like getting out every-once and a while." Feena spoke, "See, be more like your sister, she doesn't complain so much." Richard replied sarcastically, "She barely speaks at all." Ade heard his phone ring, and he placed it on the table next to a large dining plate, seeing it was a text from  Kaia. He looked at Niumal, saying, "I'm going to the bathroom." The waiter came, and they were in their mid 20s. She smiled with shiny white teeth and smoky brown scruffy hair. His nameplate was perfectly in place, reading 'Lee.' He said, "What will we be eating tonight?" They went around ordering their food as the waiter walked away, he saw Luca was looking at him a little longer than the other before arguing with Wendy about something Ade didn't care enough to listen. He got up, saying a quiet left walking to the bathroom.

She called him, he placed the phone to his ear, and she spoke enthusiastically, "Where are you at Ade?" He spoke back, "I'm out at Salt Grass heading to the bathroom- Wait why do you ask?" He was pulled into a dark, empty section of the restaurant. He looked at her, and she smiled, with dark brown, short curly hair, grayish-blue eyes, her round, smooth, dark brown skin and body with dark freckles that spotted around her small, rounded nose. She leaned for a kiss. He kissed her back. She was giddy. She was wearing a large puff black coat, large boots for her, thick black pants, and an oversized fur hat that he used to own. She asked curiously, "Are you going to tell your friends about us?" A shadow came across Ade's face before saying, "We already told our friends about us." Kaia smiled, dropping as fear struck her eyes before she put back on a smile, shaking off the sinking feeling in her. "Well I know I got a train to get on soon so I'd better go," Ade stopped her, hugging her. "Please do not go on that train my love." Ade hugged, holding back tears, then she realized hugging him meant crying. Ade looked down, seeing his finance. Her skin was dark purple, and her curly hair stuck together and was frost-tipped. He sat down, pulling out a seat from an empty table she curled up on him, trying to get some heat. Her breath was cold as a transparent white puff came out, and she was shaking. Her hair grew long, and her eyes nearly dulled without life. She spoke calmly, "How did I die," Ade knew forgot how she died once again. He spoke softly, "A train accident over a bridge came from northern Canada to Washington state. The support gave way and the train plunged into a valley." He waited for her to speak, but she waited for him to finish the tale. "It took us so long to find you over a month we did with the help of rescuers. Only 4 survivors out of 390 people were among them. We couldn't save any of you. It was already too late so I stayed with you in your final moments of life." Kaia said quietly, "Love you, I'm deeply distraught that we never got married." Ade snarked to himself, "I love you more than anyone in the world." Kaia questioned him, "Did you blame yourself for everyone's death?" Ade replied, "I don't blame myself after a couple of years, and happy birthday." Admand said, "How old would I be?" Ade did the math in his head, "I would say since you died in 1989 at the age of 37 you will be 73 years old." They met each other's glance, looking at each other, she said to seem warmer, then faded away. Ade passionately kissed each other for over a minute before she pulled away. "I'm sorry I kept coming back," Ade smiled warmly, "I love seeing your face and hearing your smooth voice." They hugged and tried to hold on to her a little longer. Then he felt something, but a breeze of freezing air. He looked down, seeing a ring on his left index finger. Her ring had a large diamond in the middle that matched his own ring, which was on his right index finger. He whispered, "Thank you for this," He walked back, wiping any remaining tears on his face sitting down, seeing that everyone was eating breadsticks. Tala said, "Were you crying?" Mary stopped her daughter from saying any more. Niumal leans over to Ade. "Did Kaia come back to visit?" Ade spoke in a tiny whisper, "Yes," Josh asked, "Are you okay?" Ade reassured his friend, "Yeah I like seeing her now and then."

He opened his eyes back to the present, which was nearly 9 months ago, seeing Robert sitting down in his large house. Everything was organized and put together in some sense since the family was rarely in their house, most of the time in the lab. Staring at each other, sighing, "I'm ready."
