Chapter 185 - A War with No Retreat

This map-wide attack from Ultimate Spider-Man directly silenced all the little Spider-Men present, except for Peter and Gwen. It belonged to the category of being immensely damaging and highly insulting.

Someone subconsciously wanted to open their mouth to refute, but after opening their mouth, they found that they couldn't say a single word. After all, not long ago, they were still smug about being able to join the Spider-Society, even feeling that they were doing a great thing by saving the world.

But what was the result? The result was that they finally found out they were pure, absolute idiots who were being used as tools the entire time!

In addition, looking at the boss who could treat the dignified God of Thunder like a dog, and then looking at themselves... If the predator that fed on Spider-Men mentioned by Ultimate Spider-Man truly existed, then calling them cannon fodder really didn't seem to have any problem...

For a time, the atmosphere of the entire office became somewhat oppressive and awkward.

Right when the little Spider-Men were unable to refute, looking like frost-bitten eggplants, it was Peter who ultimately spoke up to help them out:

"Alright, stop doing this mental PUA here."

"Having a group of obedient helpers is always much better than fighting a lonely battle all by yourself."

Hearing that the boss didn't look down on them, the little Spider-Men braced themselves up and regained their spirits one by one, baring their teeth at Ultimate Spider-Man again.

Ultimate Spider-Man was extremely disgusted by these idiots. But just when he wanted to open his mouth to shoot back a couple more sentences, Peter directly interrupted him:

"Cut the nonsense, let's get straight to the point. What on earth did you experience, and why did you treat Miguel like that... This will directly determine what kind of position I will place you in."

Ultimate Spider-Man glanced at Peter, his expression looking somewhat displeased, but he also knew the truth that the situation was more powerful than the person. So after taking a deep breath, he opened his mouth and said:

"All of this has to start from an experimental accident one year ago."

"At that time, in order to surpass Peter Pa... cough cough, surpass the stupid original owner of this body, and thoroughly solve the crime problem in New York City, I designed a satellite detection system. In theory, it could lock onto an about-to-happen criminal action at the first moment, and combined with nano-robots all over the city, smother it at the split second before the crime occurred."

Speaking up to here, he paused, a self-deprecating curve hooking up at the corner of his mouth.

"However, the moment the experiment started, the high-dimensional energy field that erupted blended with a certain kind of energy that I hadn't been able to study clearly, and ripped space-time apart."

"By the time I opened my eyes again, I had already traveled to the year 2099."

A Spider-Horse couldn't help but interrupt:

"The year 2099? Isn't that Miguel's era?"

"No, in fact, the Miguel you know is a variant from another parallel universe, just like the countless Peters."

At this point, a cold gleam flashed in Ultimate Spider-Man's eyes:

"Through talking with Miguel's older brother, I discovered that the Miguel of 2099 had mysteriously disappeared before I traveled over. In other words... because this universe lacked a Spider-Man, I was forced to become his replacement!"

With his words reaching this point, Peter also clearly understood how the grudge between these two individuals was formed. If he were inexplicably separated from Gwen and Felicia, merely to clean up the mess for another Peter, he would probably give the other party a fierce beating to vent his anger after meeting them.

Noticing the look of understanding that surfaced on Peter's face, Ultimate Spider-Man didn't care whether the other little Spider-Men understood or not, and continued on his own:

"In order to return to my own universe, I used the technology of 2099 to make a homemade dimensional travel device. But what happened next made my skin crawl."

His voice involuntarily lowered a fraction, a trace of heartfelt fear showing in his eyes.

"Every single one of my travels allowed me to land with absolute precision right next to the corpse of another Spider-Man."

"One different universe after another. A universe where Spider-Man became a member of the Fantastic Five, a universe where Spider-Man became a villain, a universe where Iron Man became the big villain while Spider-Man was the resistance army..."

"Those Spider-Men, regardless of identity, regardless of strength, regardless of technology level..."

"All dead!"

"And the manner of death was extremely tragic, as if their life force had been sucked dry by something."

Listening to Ultimate Spider-Man's narration, the group of little Spider-Men on the scene subconsciously rubbed their arms, only feeling that their arms were covered in goosebumps.

As for Peter, he revealed a thoughtful expression. This opening seemed a bit familiar. It looked like the setting of that Spider-Verse thing, right? And the ones killing these people seemed to be a different kind of vampire family?

Right when he was thinking this way in his heart, Ultimate Spider-Man continued to speak:

"It was at that time that I realized I wasn't traveling randomly, but was being pulled by some kind of mysterious force. It was guiding me to see these things so that I could realize the arrival of danger ahead of time."

"Something is feeding on us Spider-Men!"

"It is hunting us!"

After enjoying the panicked looks of the group of little Spider-Men, Ultimate Spider-Man looked at Peter and continued to explain:

"In order to verify my conjecture, and also for self-preservation, I realized that I needed to clear up two things."

"The first thing is how to deal with them, and the other thing is how I should escape if I can't deal with them."

Hearing this, the little Spider-Men couldn't help but shoot back:

"Spider-Man never runs away!"

"That's right, with great power comes great responsibility!"

Listening to the muttering of the little Spider-Men, a ticking cross-mark of anger couldn't help but burst out on Ultimate Spider-Man's forehead:

"That's why I say I am different from you idiots! If you guys want to go die and become their food, then suit yourselves!"

"Keep speaking." Peter interrupted Ultimate Spider-Man somewhat roughly:

"Miguel is the experimental subject you used to test whether you could escape, right."

"Exactly!" Ultimate Spider-Man gave Peter a look of appreciation and then spoke:

"You should have already guessed my plan."

"In order to determine whether I could run to another universe to live if I couldn't deal with those guys."

"Thus, I traveled to the 2099 of another universe and found another living Miguel O'Hara."

"I sent him to a universe where that Miguel had already been killed by those predators, and observed what happened subsequently to that universe."

"The result is also what you guys already know; that universe collapsed."

"I think you guys should also realize what this means!"

As soon as his words came out, the little Spider-Men subconsciously fell into silence. After a long time, Spider-Punk used his signature Black reggae voice to speak:

"This is a war with no retreat, from which no one can be spared!"

"Correct!" Ultimate Spider-Man snapped his fingers and gave an affirmative reply:

"This is indeed a war with no retreat. We must strike first to gain the upper hand. Otherwise, we will either be eaten by them or live a miserable life until we watch one universe after another walk toward collapse!"
