Episode 23: Wrath's Domain
The fractured hell-realm and the collapsing fronts of the war bled into one another like open wounds.
Jungle – Sea of Japan Region
Nathan Moya was drenched in sweat and blood, his illusions fraying at the edges. Laughter danced through the burning undergrowth like a deranged jester, his infectious cackle warping reality around him. Every laugh forced horrific visions into Nathan's mind — his friends dying, the Garden Behind the Fence consuming the world, his own failure as an illusionist.
"You're funny when you try so hard!" Laughter shrieked, launching a barrage of hysteria-infused energy blasts. Nathan barely wove a mirror illusion in time, redirecting the attacks back at the general. The explosions lit up the night sky.
"I've had enough of your shit," Nathan snarled. He dropped every restraint and unleashed his strongest technique: Mind Labyrinth: Eternal Fracture. The jungle around Laughter twisted into an endless maze of his own worst memories — victims he had driven insane, the Pillar's atrocities, and the growing fear that he would never be more than a slippery survivor.
Laughter clutched his head, giggling uncontrollably at first, then screaming as the illusions dug deeper. "So… funny… it hurts!" He retaliated with a point-blank burst of manic energy that shattered several of Nathan's decoys and sent the real Nathan crashing through trees.
Meanwhile, deeper in the wilds, Tiago, Derek, and Ferrum had cornered Koa.
The beast-spirit warrior had taken on his full Rhino form — thick gray hide, massive horn, and unstoppable charging power. He smashed Ferrum into a boulder, the impact ringing like a church bell. Derek fired lightning chains, but Koa absorbed some of the electricity and roared, shifting momentarily into a Komodo Dragon hybrid, spitting corrosive venom.
Tiago touched a nearby ancient tree, using Past Sight to read the flow of recent events. "He's not with Dogder! He's protecting this jungle from Glimmerfall intruders. We don't have to kill him!"
Ferrum, in full Iron Tyrant mode, grappled the rhino-charged Koa. "Then help us convince him!"
Derek supercharged the ground, creating an electrified field that slowed Koa's movements. Tiago stepped forward calmly, projecting visions from his power directly into Koa's mind — images of the crew's fight against the Pillar, R. Dogder's army of broken children, and the greater threat of the White-Blue Heart Pillar.
Koa staggered, shifting back to human form. "You… fight the laughing madman and the sand witch? Not here to cage me?"
Derek extended a hand. "We're building the Guardians of Destiny. We need someone who can become the beasts of legend."
After a tense moment, Koa grasped Derek's hand. "Then I fight with you."
The four of them turned back toward the sounds of Nathan's battle with Laughter.
Hell Realm – Sin of Wrath's Domain
Peter, Kent Nagy, and Steve Nikolaidis fought like men possessed. Kent's super strength shattered the Sin of Wrath's flaming limbs while Steve's superspeed created afterimages that confused the demon lord. Peter tanked devastating blows that would have pulped normal humans, buying precious seconds for the boys to strike.
With a combined final assault — Kent's strongest punch, Steve's rapid strikes to weak points, and Peter's unbreakable charge — they forced the Sin of Wrath to stumble back long enough for a portal rift to open.
They escaped into the mortal world, emerging in a dark forest, gasping for clean air.
"You two are in," Peter said, clapping their shoulders. "Welcome to the war."
Rhino Valley – Captured
R. Dogder's minions had overwhelmed the safehouse ruins. Wyatt, Devonte (still clutching the barking Lil Micah), the wounded Sasha Moya, and a barely conscious Kevin were loaded into reinforced transport vehicles. Kim Al Anzi, arm regenerating slowly from Peter's earlier strike, watched with cold satisfaction.
The journey to The Blank was brutal. When the doors finally opened deep inside the Ecuadorian mountain facility, the prisoners were dragged into a vast underground prison wing.
Wyatt's eyes widened in horror. Rows upon rows of cells held captured supernaturals — Wrathborn from all over the world. Some were newly awakened Glimmerfall teens chained and sedated. Others were powerful independents: a woman who controlled weather, a man whose shadow could strangle, and several members of early Magnificent 18 recruits who had been ambushed. Their powers were suppressed by strange white-blue restraints linked to the Pillar's technology.
"This is what he does," Wyatt growled, struggling against his captors. "He doesn't just make soldiers. He breaks anyone who won't join him."
Devonte whispered to Sasha, "Stay with me, cousin. Nathan will come."
Kevin, bleeding heavily from the chest wound, could barely lift his head. The Mythical Matrix flickered weakly.
R. Dogder's voice echoed over the intercom. "Welcome to The Blank, Rampager. Soon you will watch your precious world burn… or join it."
Jungle
Nathan and Laughter's fight reached its climax. Nathan, exhausted but determined, created one final, intimate illusion — forcing Laughter to experience the silence of a world where no one found his madness amusing. The lack of reaction broke the general's mind for a critical second.
Derek, Ferrum, Tiago, and the newly recruited Koa (now in Jaguar form) struck from the flanks. Lightning, iron spears, past-sight-guided strikes, and raw beast ferocity overwhelmed Laughter. The Big Five general was finally subdued, though not killed.
Nathan collapsed to one knee. "We need to get to Rhino Valley. Now."
The newly expanded Guardians group raced against time, unaware of how dire the situation had become for their friends.
