Chapter 25 - The Fallen Pagoda (Part 1)

The ground was two thousand feet away, and it was coming up fast.

Inside the High Altar, the laws of physics had been discarded in favor of the laws of the Bureau. The red static of the Final Harvest protocol roared like a localized hurricane, shredding white lotus petals into digital dust. At the center of the storm stood Erikson. He held his arms wide, a single glowing golden needle hovering between his palms like a compass needle pointing toward a massacre.

"The world is a sequence of numbers, Kaizer Gold," Erikson whispered. His voice didn't travel through the air; it vibrated through the very marrow of the bone. "And I have been given permission to hit Delete."

[SYSTEM COMMAND: SKILL LOCK: THE DEVOURER'S HUNGER] [SYSTEM COMMAND: SKILL LOCK: SHADOW EXCHANGE]

Kaizer felt a cold, metallic weight slam into his soul. His connection to his shadows flickered and went dark, the tether snapped by a force that felt as impersonal as a line of code. The violet fire in his eyes dimmed as the System tried to rewrite him, turning the Ninth S-Rank back into a Zero.

"You rely on the interface we built for you," Erikson sneered, taking a slow, deliberate step forward. "You're a tiger in a cage made of our own design. Without your skills, you're just a boy in a charcoal suit."

The Sovereign's Rejection

Kaizer didn't panic. He stood in the center of the collapsing hall, his hand tightening on the hilt of the God-Slayer's Edge. He could feel the lock trying to bind his wrists and seal his mana, but deep within his chest, the Heart of the Warlord beat with a heavy, Abyssal defiance.

"You think the System gave me this power?" Kaizer's voice was a low, dangerous growl that cut through the digital screeching.

He took a step. The marble floor beneath his boot didn't just crack; it pulverized, not from his physical weight, but from the sheer, raw pressure of his intent.

"I didn't ask for permission to awaken. And I certainly didn't ask for a rank."

Kaizer raised his blade. The obsidian metal began to bleed a darkness so thick it felt like liquid.

[WARNING: UNKNOWN AUTHORITY DETECTED] [SOVEREIGN PREROGATIVE: SYSTEM REJECTION: 100%]

"The System is just a language, Erikson," Kaizer said. His eyes erupted into a blinding violet supernova, shattering the "Locked" icons floating in his vision. "And I'm the one rewriting the dictionary."

The Skill Lock windows shattered like glass. Kaizer moved.

He wasn't using Shadow Exchange. He was moving through the void itself. In a fraction of a second, he was inside Erikson's personal space. The God-Slayer's Edge swung in a vertical arc, a strike designed to sever the Saint's very existence.

The Saint's Shield

Erikson didn't dodge. He simply raised the golden needle.

"Command: Absolute Invulnerability."

The obsidian blade hit a wall of golden light and stopped dead. The shockwave of the impact blew out every remaining window in the Pagoda, sending a hail of glass shards into the clouds below. Erikson's eyes crinkled behind his mask in a terrifying, porcelain smile.

"I am the Administrator. I am the Law. You cannot kill what the System deems immortal."

Erikson flicked his wrist with the casual grace of a conductor. "Command: Internal Rupture."

Kaizer's lungs suddenly filled with blood. His ribs groaned, sounding like dry wood snapping under an invisible foot. He coughed, a spray of dark violet ichor hitting the front of his white shirt.

"Master!" Sera screamed from across the hall, but she was pinned to the floor by the intensifying gravity of the Pagoda's descent.

The Final Harvest: 98%

The Pagoda groaned, a sound of metal and mana screaming in its final death throes. It had officially entered the lower atmosphere. The heat of friction began to turn the white stone of the docks into glowing, orange slag.

"Look at them, Kaizer," Erikson laughed, pointing toward the city below. Millions of people were looking up at the falling sun that was the Pagoda. "Ten seconds until the harvest is complete. Ten seconds until Tokyo becomes the mana-pool for the Seven Pillars."

Kaizer wiped the blood from his lip. He looked at the God-Slayer's Edge, then at the red static filling the room. He realized that as long as the System was the foundation of this reality, Erikson was untouchable.

He needed to eat the foundation.

"Rin! Guard!" Kaizer shouted over the roar of the wind. "Get Takeshi to the center! I'm going to do something impossible."

Kaizer sheathed his blade. He didn't look at Erikson. He looked at the floor, straight into the heart of the Pagoda's engine.

"You want a harvest, Erikson?" Kaizer asked. His shadow began to spread, moving like spilled ink until it covered the entire High Altar. "Then let's see if you can handle the hunger of the end."

[EVOLUTION TRIGGERED: THE SOVEREIGN'S MAW] [NEW SKILL UNLOCKED: ABYSSAL SINGULARITY]

Kaizer plunged his hands into the floorboards.

"I'm not just eating your Disciples anymore," Kaizer whispered. "I'm eating the world."

The Pagoda's rotation stopped instantly. The red static was sucked toward Kaizer's palms. The very space around him began to warp, turning into a black hole of pure, unadulterated Sovereignty.
