NIKOLAJ'S POV
I scanned the group, trying to pinpoint exactly which one of them was triggering my internal alarm. It was a visceral, unsettling sensation. I leaned back into the cushions of the sofa, watching closely as they began their introductions.
"I'm Lein," the sharp, professional one started.
"I'm Darsie," the girl in pink chirped, her smile stretching even wider.
"I'm Mina," the girl in black said softly, her voice remarkably steady.
"I'm Judie!" the high-energy one exclaimed, still bouncing on her toes.
"I'm Cheska," the reserved girl whispered.
"I'm Terron," the model-esque one said with a confident, bold grin.
"I'm Jennie," the shyest of the bunch concluded.
Looking at their faces, there was no obvious red flag. Some met my gaze with friendly smiles; others looked suddenly self-conscious, as if checking their clothes for some invisible flaw.
