Chapter 90 - Chapter 89: The First Observer

The crimson spear shot toward Ethan's chest.

It was too fast.

There was no time to dodge.

No time to think.

Then—

Clang!

A blade intercepted the spear in a shower of sparks.

Kairo.

He had crossed the battlefield in an instant, forcing Aiden's weapon away.

"Ethan!" he shouted. "Get to the control core!"

Aiden took a step back, studying Kairo with calm eyes.

"So this is the heir who broke the chain."

Kairo tightened his grip on his sword.

"If you're here to hurt him, you'll have to go through me."

Aiden's expression softened.

"I hoped you would say that."

Without another word, he attacked.

The clash echoed through the chamber like thunder.

Kairo met every strike head-on, but Aiden's movements were unlike anything he had faced before.

There was no wasted motion.

No anger.

Every attack was perfectly calculated.

The chamber trembled with each collision.

Meanwhile, Ethan ran toward the glowing control core.

Hunters broke away from the battle, trying to intercept him.

Before they could reach him, the Keepers stepped into their path.

The elderly Keeper raised both hands.

Silver light spread across the floor.

"Stand firm!"

The ground erupted beneath the Hunters, forcing them back.

Selene seized the opportunity.

She spun through the opening, disarming one Hunter before knocking another into the silver barrier.

"For people who aren't soldiers," she shouted, "you fight pretty well!"

The old Keeper smiled.

"We protect memories."

"Sometimes that requires force."

Adrian reached Ethan first.

"The core is responding to you."

Golden symbols climbed the shattered pillar like living vines.

As Ethan approached, they grew brighter.

"What am I supposed to do?"

"I don't know," Adrian admitted.

"But it chose you."

Behind them, Lucien watched with growing concern.

"It's happening too soon."

The First Witness nodded.

"The worlds are merging faster than expected."

Suddenly—

Aiden forced Kairo backward with a powerful strike.

Kairo slid several meters across the stone floor before stopping himself.

Blood dripped from the cut on his shoulder.

Aiden didn't continue the attack.

Instead, he lowered his spear.

"You've become stronger than your father."

Kairo frowned.

"You knew him?"

"I trained him."

Silence.

Even Lucien looked surprised.

Kairo's grip tightened.

"You're lying."

"I rarely lie."

Aiden's crimson eyes were filled with something Ethan hadn't expected.

Regret.

"Your father believed the Observer would one day save every world."

"He gave his life protecting that hope."

Kairo stood frozen.

The words struck him harder than any weapon.

"My father..."

"He wasn't protecting the Circle."

"He was protecting Ethan's future."

The chamber fell silent.

Before anyone could react, the control core exploded with golden light.

A beam shot into the ceiling, piercing the rock above.

The entire facility shook violently.

Outside...

The sky changed.

Golden cracks spread across the heavens like broken glass.

People throughout the kingdom stopped and looked upward.

They didn't know why.

But they all felt it.

Something fundamental had changed.

Back inside the chamber, Ethan reached out instinctively.

The moment his hand touched the control core—

Thousands of memories flooded his mind.

He saw ancient cities.

Countless worlds.

Different versions of himself.

Some were kings.

Some were scholars.

Some had died as children.

Some had never met Kairo.

Others stood beside him until the end.

The visions came too fast to understand.

Too real to ignore.

He cried out, collapsing to one knee.

"Ethan!" Selene shouted.

Lucien ran toward him but stopped halfway.

"No..."

The First Witness caught his arm.

"Don't interfere."

"He has to see."

Ethan's breathing became ragged.

Voices echoed inside his head.

Hundreds.

Thousands.

Then...

One voice rose above all the others.

Clear.

Gentle.

Familiar.

"Wake up."

Everything went white.

When the light faded...

Ethan was no longer in the chamber.

He stood in a vast field beneath a sky filled with silver stars.

A gentle breeze stirred the grass around him.

Someone stood several steps away.

A woman.

She wore simple white robes.

Her long dark hair moved softly in the wind.

When she turned toward him...

Ethan's heart stopped.

He knew that face.

Not from this world.

From his old one.

"...Mom?"

Tears filled his eyes.

She smiled.

The same warm smile he remembered.

"My son."

He took an unsteady step forward.

"But..."

His voice trembled.

"You died."

She nodded sadly.

"I did."

"Then how are you here?"

She reached out and gently touched his cheek.

"I'm not."

Silence.

"This place exists between memories and truth."

Ethan struggled to hold back tears.

"I don't understand."

"I know."

She smiled again.

"But you will."

Her expression slowly grew serious.

"You don't have much time."

"The choice is coming."

Ethan's chest tightened.

"Everyone keeps talking about a choice."

She nodded.

"Because only you can make it."

A distant rumble echoed across the silver sky.

The stars above began to dim.

She looked upward with concern.

"They're coming."

"Who?"

She looked back at Ethan.

"The ones who erased us."

Before he could ask another question—

The entire dreamscape began to shatter like glass.

His mother's smile never faded.

"Remember one thing, Ethan."

"No matter what they tell you..."

"You were never the mistake."

The world around him collapsed into light.

And Ethan opened his eyes—

Just in time to see the control core split completely in half.
