Chapter 49 - The Face He Left Behind

The evening celebration after Adrian's graduation was held at the elegant

Midsummer House in Cambridge.

The restaurant glowed warmly under soft lights as guests filled the room with laughter and conversation. Glasses clinked, cameras flashed, and proud families gathered to celebrate the graduates of University of Cambridge.

Adrian stood near a long table with his parents and a few close family friends.

Stephanie and Maya had just arrived.

For a moment, Adrian simply stared at Stephanie.

The dress they had chosen earlier fit her perfectly, and the elegant wig framed her face beautifully. She carried herself with a quiet grace that immediately drew attention.

"Wow," Maya whispered beside her.

"Steph… you look like you belong in a royal family."

Stephanie nudged her lightly.

"Stop it."

Adrian walked toward them with a proud smile.

"I'm glad you both made it."

Maya grinned.

"Miss this? Never."

Adrian then turned to the group at the table.

"I want everyone to meet someone important to me."

Stephanie suddenly felt nervous.

Adrian gently took her hand.

"This is Stephanie," he said.

"My girlfriend."

Stephanie's eyes widened slightly.

She hadn't expected him to say it so openly.

A soft blush spread across her face as several people at the table smiled warmly.

Adrian's mother immediately stood up and hugged her lightly.

"You're absolutely beautiful," she said kindly.

His father nodded with approval.

"It's nice to finally meet the young woman who has captured our son's attention."

Stephanie smiled shyly.

"Thank you, sir."

Meanwhile, Maya stood beside her with the biggest grin.

"Oh, they're perfect for each other," she said loudly.

Stephanie turned to her in embarrassment.

"Maya!"

"What?" Maya laughed.

"I'm just telling the truth."

Laughter spread around the table.

Across the restaurant, another couple had just been seated.

An elderly man and woman.

Stephanie's paternal grandparents.

They had come to celebrate Adrian as well, since their families had been close friends for many years.

As they settled into their seats, the grandmother glanced around the restaurant.

Her eyes suddenly stopped on a familiar face.

Maya.

"The girl from the restaurant," she whispered quietly.

Her husband looked in the same direction.

"Yes… it's her."

But then the grandmother's eyes moved slightly.

And she saw Stephanie.

For a moment she simply stared.

Something about the girl felt strangely familiar.

The way she stood.

The way she smiled.

The shape of her face.

Her heart suddenly began beating faster.

"Look carefully," she whispered to her husband.

The old man studied Stephanie.

Then his expression slowly changed.

Because he saw it too.

Not Evelyn.

Their son.

The same eyes.

The same strong facial structure.

The same calm expression he had when he was young.

He went very still.

"My God…" he murmured under his breath.

The grandmother's hand trembled slightly as she held the edge of the table.

"She has his face."

The old man continued watching the young woman across the room.

Their son had been gone for many years.

But somehow…

A piece of him was standing right there.

Alive.

Beautiful.

And completely unaware that her grandparents were watching her.

The grandmother's voice shook softly.

"That's our granddaughter."

Neither of them moved.

Neither of them spoke again.

They simply sat there, overwhelmed.

Because after all these years…

They had finally found her.
