Chapter 48 - Almost Seen

The city of Cambridge looked even more beautiful that morning.

Historic buildings lined the streets, and proud families filled the town, all gathered for the graduation ceremony at University of Cambridge.

Stephanie and Maya walked side by side toward the ceremony hall, both dressed elegantly.

Stephanie wore the soft dress Adrian had chosen for her, along with the stylish wig Maya had insisted looked "absolutely perfect."

Maya, on the other hand, was practically glowing with excitement.

"I can't believe we're actually here," she whispered.

Stephanie laughed softly.

"You've said that like twenty times already."

"Because it's true!" Maya replied.

Soon they entered the historic Senate House, where the ceremony was taking place.

The hall was filled with students wearing black academic gowns and proud families watching from the audience.

Stephanie felt a quiet sense of pride as she looked around.

Adrian had worked hard for this moment.

Meanwhile, in another section of the audience, an elderly couple had just arrived.

Stephanie's grandparents.

They had been invited by Adrian's family, who had been close friends with them for many years.

The elderly woman adjusted her seat and looked around the hall.

"So many young faces," she said softly.

Her husband nodded.

"Yes, it reminds me of when our own child graduated."

A heavy silence settled between them.

For a brief moment, neither of them spoke.

The memory of their son their only child still lingered in their hearts, even after all these years. The pain had softened with time, but it had never truly disappeared.

The ceremony began, gently pulling them back to the present.

Students were called one by one to receive their degrees.

Finally, Adrian's name was announced.

He walked forward confidently, dressed in his graduation gown.

From her seat, Stephanie watched proudly.

Maya leaned over and whispered excitedly.

"That's your man up there!"

Stephanie smiled shyly but kept her eyes on Adrian.

Across the hall, Adrian's parents applauded proudly as he received his degree.

And just a few rows behind them…

Stephanie's grandparents also clapped politely.

None of them noticed the quiet young woman sitting on the opposite side of the hall.

After the ceremony ended, people began leaving their seats to greet the graduates.

The hall quickly filled with laughter, hugs, and cameras flashing everywhere.

Maya grabbed Stephanie's arm.

"Let's go outside before it gets too crowded."

Stephanie nodded.

"Good idea."

The two girls slipped out through one of the side doors.

Just minutes later, Stephanie's grandparents walked through the same area, heading outside as well.

For a brief moment, the grandmother paused.

She glanced across the courtyard.

Something about a girl walking away in the distance caught her attention.

But the girl disappeared into the crowd before she could see her clearly.

The elderly woman shook her head slightly.

"Probably just my imagination," she murmured.

Meanwhile, outside the hall, Adrian finally found Stephanie and Maya waiting for him.

He walked toward them with a proud smile.

"Well," he said.

"I'm officially done."

Maya clapped excitedly.

"Congratulations, Mr. Lawyer!"

Stephanie smiled warmly.

"I'm proud of you."

Adrian looked at her for a moment.

"Having you here made today even better."

None of them realized how close fate had come to revealing the truth.

Just a few steps away…

Stephanie's past had almost found her.
