They arrived at the new apartment and then she smiled at the whole thing but the one thing or person she didn't even expect was him. Jade.
"Lan?" He stood there staring at Lan. Jade walked a bit closer to her, it felt like ages seeing her in her favorite hairstyle. "I've missed you."
She stood there speechless. She turned to him. "Jade? What are you doing here? Why are you here?" She turned her face to Li, "Why would you do this Li? Tell me why? Why would you bring him here? To haunt me more? Are you insane?"
"Mom I didn't know he'd be here. I just saw him walk into the room right now. I'm serious. You have to believe me."
Zhao walked in after he made that statement. Zhao smiled at him for a moment and then took his eyes back to his father. Jade kept his eyes strictly on Lan. He knelt on both knees and held her waist, he buried his head into her gown. He held her tight begging for mercy and pleading for a second chance.
The twins watched him calmly. They never knew Jade had the nerve to beg a person ever. Zhao stared at his father ask for a second chance. "Lan, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean for any of this to happen the way it did. I didn't think it would have, I got lost in the way of greed and money took over my heart. I'm so sorry. Please Lan, please." Jade gave a plea.
Lan placed her hands over her lower face trying to keep herself from crying. She tried to walk away but it all felt like both her feet were glued to the ground. She couldn't move away from the mistake she made and the man she once loved.
"Lan please. Please Lan. I want you back. I'm wealthy now and there's more than enough for you and me and even our boys. Take me back. Lan."
She placed her hands on his shoulders, she held him down for a while and exhaled. She smiled a bit, "Jade you still smell like fish mixed with orange juice and pineapple? Gosh."
"What?" He lifted his head up, "Come on Lan, what do you mean Lan? I need you to be nice okay? How can you say that?"
"Be quiet you nagging baby. You are still the same as usual. Nagging and annoying. Get up. I already forgave you long before now and I think it's best to move on. Get yourself a new side chick. I think I'll be fine outside the marriage." She said softly.
"Wait. Please."
"Don't act like you've changed."
"I have I can even get you a bigger house not this little hole." Li felt insulted at his words.
"Well my son got me this little fine hole for his mother rat. Don't you get it?"
"Of course. I do. And also I came with Zhao. You remember him right? The last time you met he had nothing too."
"Is he my son?"
Zhao stared at her in shock, "Yes I am. Dad said so."
"Dad said so but did you show me any effort or even love? Li would always come for me and you wouldn't, you prefer your fancy mansion and money filled companies over your mother's hug?" She asked.
"Well… I…I never knew you. I never had a mother around me." The room turned quiet. "I never knew what having a mother felt like, I don't know what a woman is. I never saw you there either."
The silence increased. She stared at him. She didn't know what to say, she wanted to have the words fall out but she couldn't. Truly she abandoned him for Jade. She waited for a while, "Zhao. Come closer to me."
Zhao walked closer to her thinking he would get a hug but instead he got a hit on his head. "Are you crazy! I'm not your father! Show me some respect! Didn't your father tell about how I used to come over to take both you and your brother to the icecream factory where I used to work!" She hit his head again.
Zhao moved back, what a level of deceit. "Ow! My head. Why'd you hit my head?"
"He's still asking me questions? Jade have you seen the way he speaks to his mother? Look at him, look at what you raised. A rude son?"
Jade turned slowly to Zhao. "Apologise."
Zhao turned to her, "I'm sorry mother."
She held him close, "Zhao it's fine. I love you and I think it'll make me happy if you showed up to me sometimes. I'm sorry for leaf in g you behind but you had a drunk father, for a father."
Jade interrupted, "A not so drunk every time father. Tell him the truth. I got drunk sometimes. Okay?"
"Oh and you are trying to defend yourself but I know you well enough Jade. Anyway Zhao, I guess you went through university?"
"No."
"What?! Why?"
"I'm rich enough"
"You are so proud. Jade I think I'll need some time to arrange this apartment."
"Or I could get a duplex or mansion."
"Or could you just get me a maid instead. How's that?"
He gave up. Jade knew he never won an argument against this woman and from what he could see, he never will. Although he felt odd, he missed her and her sarcastic words. Her fights and tiny quarrels. He smiled at her.
"Fine I'll get you a maid. I'll get you a maid as soon as possible. How many?"
"One is fine. I'll handle the rest." She said.
"No I won't let you do that."
"Okay watch me then." She walked over to the kitchen and tried to clean but Jade held her hands.
"Lan. Darling." His voice got deeper, he held her close to his body, his sweet smelling cologne bursted his loud aura even more. She could t resist him. "Let me handle you."
"Jade stop. The kids are watching." She warned softly.
"No I won't. Have me for dinner and you for me? Let's talk things out. I love you. I never stopped."
He kissed her lips. He smiled at her, he knew he still had that tingling strength over her and her soft spot for him still remained soft.
For once, Li felt what love felt like. He spied on them through the door. He smiled. He noticed a shadow over his. Zhao stood there and smiled at him.
