Dio slapped the card onto his Duel Disk.
With a harsh metallic grinding sound, a wolf-like mechanical monster assembled from discarded metal parts appeared on his field.

Seeing that the monster had 1600 ATK, Dole looked a little surprised.
"Oh? Its attack is actually as high as my Marauding Captain's right now?"
"Then I flip the two face-down monsters on my field!"
Dio pointed toward his Monster Zone, and the two set cards turned face-up, revealing two identical Nimble Momongas.

Seeing that they were just two weak monsters with low attack, the last trace of concern in Dole's heart disappeared.
But Dio suddenly raised his arm high and shouted:

"From the barren ruins where scrap is born, reveal your unyielding will! Synchro Summon!"

The instant a brilliant light flared on Dio's field, Dole's jaw nearly hit the floor. His eyes bulged round, and his voice warped from sheer disbelief.
"You—you only just got that Synchro monster, and you already know how to summon it? I've had that card for over a year now, and I still haven't managed to bring it out in a real duel!"
No matter how shocked Dole was, the radiance of Synchro Summoning had already blossomed on Dio's field.
Scrap Beast threw back its head and roared. Its massive body leapt into the air and split into four brilliant emerald tuning rings.
At the same time, the two Nimble Momongas lightly flew into the green rings and were completely enveloped by them.
Light erupted from within the tuning rings.
And when the dazzling glow finally faded, an overwhelming pressure spread out in an instant.
What appeared on Dio's field was a gigantic steel dragon pieced together from countless scraps of junk.
Its wings were made of enormous sheets of rusted metal. Its eyes were blazing headlights. Though its whole body radiated the aura of a wasteland relic, nothing could conceal its draconic majesty.
It raised its head and unleashed a roar that sounded like grinding metal fused with the thunder of an engine.

Scrap Dragon had once been one of Dio's favorite Synchro Monsters. The moment he saw it, he was reminded of his days playing Tag Force 6.
At last, he could no longer suppress the excitement inside him.
The gloom that had weighed on his heart for the past two months since transmigrating to this world seemed to be swept away by that dragon's roar. The corners of his mouth rose of their own accord, and for the first time since arriving here, he smiled.
"So strong! It's only 200 points short of Blue-Eyes White Dragon!"
Dole was completely intimidated by Scrap Dragon's 2800 ATK, and even his voice had started trembling.
Instinctively, he glanced at the face-down card in his back row—
Sakuretsu Armor.
Hope reignited in his heart.

Of the two cards he had set in his back row, one was exactly the kind of card meant to deal with situations like this.
Without the slightest hesitation, he swept out his hand and activated his Trap.
"I activate the Trap Card Blast with Chain!"
He shouted loudly:
"I can activate this card by targeting 1 face-up monster I control. This card becomes an Equip Card that gives that monster 500 ATK, and I equip it to that monster!"
A phantom image of a card depicting a bundle of dynamite and chains materialized above Dio's field. In the next moment, a tightly bound pack of explosives wrapped in iron chains appeared and fastened itself firmly around Scrap Dragon's thick forelimb joint.

"3300 ATK?!"
Crow and Dole cried out at the same time.
In the world of Duel Monsters, 3000 ATK was a widely recognized threshold of real power. Any monster that could reach that level was unquestionably formidable.
And duelists who could push one of their monsters to such heights in an actual duel were genuinely uncommon.
Even in the OCG, plenty of decks struggled to get past an unaffected 3000-ATK boss monster. In this world, most people really could only deal with monsters through battle.
Cards that could directly destroy the opponent's cards were absurdly expensive.
Crow's eyes lit up slightly, and he thought to himself:

But Dio's reason for equipping that card to Scrap Dragon was not merely to raise its attack power.
"Next, I activate Scrap Dragon's effect!" Dio's voice pulled Dole back to reality. "Once per turn, I can target 1 card I control and 1 card you control, and destroy them!"
He extended his right hand, his fingertip indicating the bundle of explosives on his own field and the set card in Dole's back row.
"I target my Blast with Chain and your face-down card, and destroy them!"
"What?!"
Dole could not understand Dio's words at all, and for a second he was still lost. But then he saw Scrap Dragon throw back its head and let out a roar. The bundle of explosives strapped to its forelimb suddenly detached on its own and floated before its gaping jaws.
Blazing light gathered in Scrap Dragon's mouth. Then it spat out that concentrated energy together with the explosive bundle itself.
"Scrap Bombardment!"
Boom!
The pack of explosives struck Dole's set card with perfect accuracy. The force of the blast and the dragon's destructive energy erupted together, blowing the card to pieces.
Dio caught sight of the destroyed card, and his brow twitched upward.
It was actually Sakuretsu Armor.
Using that thing and still not being afraid of losing, huh?
A joke that only he himself understood flashed through Dio's mind, followed by a subtle trace of loneliness.
In this world, he was probably the only one who would smile at that reference.
"Damn it..."
Dole cursed under his breath.
He had never expected Scrap Dragon to have such an effect—one that could proactively destroy cards on both sides of the field.
But after another thought, it did not seem all that bad.
After all, the opponent's Trap Equip Card had been destroyed too. Maybe next turn he could still surpass—
