Chapter 7 - Chapter Seven: The Hunter Sent by the System

The forest did not move.

It waited.

Kael stood in the middle of the clearing, surrounded by broken trees and fading monster ash. The air had become heavier than before, almost suffocating, like the world itself was watching him breathe.

[System Integrity: 43%]

The flickering message hovered weakly in front of him.

Kael stared at it for a moment and laughed quietly.

"Still alive, huh?"

The system did not respond.

But the ground trembled again.

Not like before.

This time, it was steady.

Controlled.

Deliberate.

Kael's smile slowly faded.

"…That's new."

The monsters he fought earlier were chaotic. Wild. Driven by instinct and system commands.

But this presence—

Was calm.

And that made it dangerous.

The trees ahead slowly parted as something stepped forward.

A figure.

Human.

Or something that looked human.

Tall.

Dressed in dark armor that shimmered like liquid metal. A long black coat flowed behind him, untouched by the wind. His eyes glowed faintly with cold blue light, and in his hand rested a thin silver blade covered in glowing system symbols.

Kael frowned.

"…So now you send people."

The figure stopped a few meters away.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

Then the system flickered.

[System Agent Deployed]

[Designation: Hunter Unit 03]

[Objective: Eliminate Anomaly]

Kael exhaled slowly.

"Hunter Unit…"

The man finally spoke.

His voice was calm. Mechanical. Emotionless.

"Host Kael. Anomaly confirmed."

Kael tilted his head slightly.

"You talk like a machine."

"I am not a machine," the Hunter replied.

"I am the system's will given form."

Kael smiled.

"That sounds worse."

The Hunter raised his blade slightly.

"You have violated core system laws."

Kael shrugged.

"Probably."

"You have absorbed restricted power."

"Definitely."

"You have damaged system integrity."

Kael chuckled.

"Now that one I'm proud of."

The Hunter's glowing eyes sharpened.

"Conclusion: You must be erased."

Silence fell over the forest.

The survival timer flickered.

[Survival Timer: 19 Hours Remaining]

Kael rolled his shoulders slightly.

"So you're the system's executioner."

"Yes."

Kael stepped forward.

"Good."

Energy flickered around his fingers.

"Because I was getting tired of fighting animals."

The Hunter moved instantly.

Faster than any monster Kael had faced.

The silver blade cut through the air in a flash.

Kael barely dodged as the attack sliced past his face, cutting a strand of his hair.

The ground behind him split open like paper.

Kael jumped back, eyes narrowing.

Fast.

Very fast.

The Hunter didn't stop.

Another strike.

Then another.

Precise.

Clean.

Efficient.

Kael blocked with energy, but the impact still pushed him backward across the ground.

"…Strong," Kael muttered.

The Hunter spoke calmly.

"Your growth rate is abnormal."

"Thanks."

"But insufficient."

The Hunter vanished.

Kael's instincts screamed.

He turned just in time to see the blade already inches from his chest.

Too fast to dodge.

Too fast to block.

The blade pierced through him.

Blood spilled instantly.

Kael coughed, staring down at the silver weapon in his chest.

"…Wow," he whispered.

"That hurt."

The Hunter pulled the blade out smoothly.

Kael dropped to one knee.

The system flickered.

[Host Status: Critical]

[Life Threatening Injury Detected]

The Hunter stepped forward again.

"Anomaly resistance is lower than expected."

Kael laughed weakly.

"You talk too much."

The Hunter raised his blade for the final strike.

"Termination complete."

The blade came down.

And Kael moved.

Not fast.

Not powerful.

But unpredictable.

He grabbed the blade with his bare hand.

Blood spilled as the metal cut into his palm.

But he held it.

The Hunter's eyes flickered.

"Impossible."

Kael smiled.

"You made one mistake."

Energy surged violently.

Ancient energy.

System energy.

All at once.

"You think I fight fair."

Energy Devourer activated.

Rule Breaker activated.

Ancient Anomaly activated.

The blade trembled.

[CRITICAL ERROR]

Kael grabbed the Hunter's arm.

And pulled.

Dark energy surged from the Hunter's body into Kael.

The Hunter's glowing eyes flickered violently.

"System… energy… being… extracted…"

Kael's smile widened.

"Yeah."

The Hunter tried to pull back.

Too late.

Energy flooded into Kael like a storm.

Pain exploded through his body.

But he didn't stop.

"I told you already," Kael whispered.

"You shouldn't have come."

The Hunter's body began to crack.

Light leaking through the armor.

[System Agent Integrity: Failing]

"No…" the Hunter said weakly.

Kael tightened his grip.

"Go back and tell your system something."

The Hunter's body started collapsing into particles.

Kael's voice dropped cold.

"I'm not running anymore."

The Hunter shattered.

Gone.

Absorbed.

Silence returned.

The system flickered violently.

[System Integrity: 43%… 39%… 35%…]

Kael collapsed to one knee, breathing heavily.

New energy pulsed inside him.

Stronger.

Sharper.

More dangerous.

A new screen appeared.

[New Skill Acquired]

[System Sever]

Effect: Allows direct damage to system-controlled entities Increases resistance to system authority

Kael laughed weakly.

"…Nice."

But then—

The sky cracked.

Literally cracked.

A massive glowing eye opened in the crimson sky above the forest.

Watching him.

Judging him.

The system spoke directly.

For the first time.

[Anomaly Kael]

The voice was no longer mechanical.

It was cold.

Ancient.

Alive.

[You have crossed the final threshold]

Kael looked up, smiling despite the blood on his face.

"Finally decided to talk to me?"

The sky darkened.

[Termination Protocol: Absolute Judgment Initiated]

The survival timer disappeared.

Replaced by something else.

[Countdown: 10 Hours Until Erasure]

Kael's smile widened.

"Good."

He stood slowly.

Energy burning around him.

"Send everything you've got."

The eye in the sky watched silently.

And the war between Kael and the system—

Had officially begun.
