Kaito burst through the surface of the water, gasping for air. Behind him, the cliff shuddered as the Sunken Factory finally succumbed to the pressure, collapsing into a heap of twisted metal and silt. He swam toward the Shipyard of Whispers, his hand tightly gripping the pulsing blue orb.
"I have it, Silas!" Kaito shouted, stumbling onto the sand, his clothes dripping and his body bruised from the narrow escape.
The blind shipwright was standing exactly where Kaito had left him, his head tilted as if listening to the heartbeat of the ocean. "I heard the factory fall. Most would have died there, boy. You truly are the Tide-Walker."
Silas led Kaito to the very edge of the dark, deep water. There, floating just below the surface, was a shape that looked more like a sleeping creature than a boat. It was sleek, covered in dark, iridescent scales that shimmered like oil on water. Instead of a wooden deck, it had a reinforced crystalline canopy.
"This is it," Silas whispered, his voice full of pride. "The vessel your father dreamed of. It has no engine, Kaito. It has a heart. Give it the energy it craves."
Kaito stepped onto the back of the vessel. He felt a strange vibration beneath his feet—a low hum, like a purr. He knelt down and placed the Heart of the Iron-Whale into a specialized slot at the center of the ship.
VRRRRRR—
The effect was instantaneous. The dark scales of the ship began to glow with a soft, bioluminescent blue. The crystalline canopy slid open, inviting Kaito inside. The interior wasn't cold metal; it was lined with soft, organic leather and glowing coral-like structures that acted as controls.
"She's alive," Kaito whispered, touching the walls.
"She is linked to your magic now," Silas said, standing on the shore. "She will breathe for you, hunt for you, and protect you from the crushing depths of the Dead Zone. I have named her... The Azure Ghost."
Kaito sat in the captain's seat, and as he did, his vision seemed to expand. He could 'feel' the water around the ship as if it were his own skin. He wasn't just sailing a boat; he was becoming one with the ocean.
"The Dead Zone is a three-day journey from here," Silas warned. "Watch out for the 'Storm-Sirens'. They don't like intruders."
Kaito nodded, a determined smile playing on his lips. He closed the canopy, and with a thought, the Azure Ghost submerged silently into the depths. The journey to find his father had truly, finally, reached the point of no return.
