Sairis's POV
"Did you try to find out who had used your seal to give that order?" Sairis asked. He kept his voice steady even though his heart was still moving faster than it should.
He could not afford to expose himself. Not now.
King Markus sighed. It was a long and tired sound. "I did," he said. "I tried. But there was very little I could do without making it look like I was defending the people responsible for killing my wife."
He cleared his throat. "I went to the court. I told them that I did not believe Gavin Locke would have poisoned Athena slowly over months when he could have simply acted faster if that had truly been his intention." Markus said.
"It made no sense. Gavin was not a patient man and he was not cruel. If he had wanted her gone, which he did not, he would not have chosen that particular method. Also, there was no motive behind the Locke family killing Athena." He added.
