Sairis's POV
Sairis nodded at the guards standing outside the king's door. They straightened when they saw him.
"Good evening," he said. "Is he awake?"
One of the guards, the younger one on the left, visibly relaxed. He smiled. "Yes, he is. In the outer room last we checked." He said.
"We have been looking for you for days, Sairis. I was starting to lose my mind honestly. He kept asking and we had nothing to tell him."
Sairis felt a small pull of guilt at that. "I am sorry you had to deal with that," he said. "I did not mean to cause trouble."
"Do not worry about it," the guard said. "Just glad you are here."
Sairis nodded and stepped through the door.
He did not need to go far. The king was in the outer room, seated on one of the long benches near the window with a book open in his hands. The room was warm and quiet and the candles had been lit against the evening dark outside.
"Your Majesty," Sairis said.
